Chapter 64

As Josephine felt the passion in Ragnar’s eyes, she appeared rather awkward. She was unsure whether it was because she had lingered for too long in the bathroom, or had there been some other reasons. At that moment, all she could feel was the overwhelming heat burning within her, so much so that her nose beaded with sweat.

Ragnar, in turn, caught on to that and realized that he was out of line, so he quickly regained his composure, Seeing that Josephine’s hair was wet, he rose to his feet.

The man walked toward the cabinet and took out the hairdryer before plugging it into the socket.

When Ragnar saw Josephine still standing there and spacing out, he voiced coldly, What are you waiting for? Dry your hair. You’d better not get sick, or my grandma will blame me for not taking good care of you.

Upon hearing those words, Josephine offered no response. A strange feeling crept up on her nonetheless.

However, she could not really put her finger on it.

I won’t fall sick that easily, you know,” replied Josephine with a smile.

She approached Ragnar and picked up the hairdryer to start drying her hair.

Immediately after she was done, she turned around and accidentally stepped on Ragnar’s toes because she was standing right next to him.

Ah!

Josephine was so frightened that she let out a scream before staggering a couple of steps back. Fortunately, Ragnar managed to grab hold of her in

time.

As he held the woman’s slender waist, their eyes met.

The next second, Ragnar exerted some strength, and Josephine’s body was yanked into his arms. Coincidentally, they locked lips with each other.

Josephine’s eyes were wide open as her mind went blank at that sudden incident. Just like that, she froze for quite a long time.

On the contrary, the moment Ragnar had a taste of the woman’s lips, he could not help but deepen the kiss.

Josephine remained dumbfounded. She did not even refuse Ragnar’s kiss.

When she realized what was going on, she hurriedly pushed Ragnar away. What are you doing, Ragnar?she said, as her cheeks blushed as red as a

tomato.

Aren’t you the one throwing yourself at me and making me kiss you?said Ragnar with a matteroffact tone.

In fact, he could not get enough of the kiss they had just shared.

YYou!Josephine pointed at the man in front of her. She was so livid that she was at a loss for words.

I’m going to take a shower. After dropping that sentence, Ragnar wheeled around and entered the bathroom.

Josephine was even more confused when she saw Ragnar stepping into the bathroom.

What was he trying to do just now? He isn’t going to make our performance real, is he?she wondered.

Nevertheless, Josephine had to admit that she indeed felt kind of sweet when Ragnar kissed her a while ago.

She was even a little immersed in it.

What exactly am I thinking? Have I taken a liking to him? No, no, no! That’s impossible!she secretly yelled.

Josephine became aware that she was reading too much into the kiss, so she returned to her senses on the spot.

She knew very well that Ragnar was reputable and had quite a status. In contrast, she was an average lady, a nobody. Understanding the gap between them, Josephine Kad never had any intentions toward that man.

She then lay on the bed and tucked herself in. Although she could still hardly get herself comfortable right then, she had to keep telling herself to put up with it for a few more days. She will be free once Dorothy leaves.

At that thought, Josephine stopped overthinking things as she shut her eyes and prepared to fall asleep.

Perhaps it was because her schedule had been so packed for the past few days that she fell into a deep sleep very soon.

When Ragnar finished taking a shower and stepped out of the bathroom, Josephine was already fast asleep. He then stood by the bed and stared at the woman for a couple of seconds.

Unwittingly, his lips curled upward into a faint grin.

Not even he himself had noticed it.

Following that, Ragnar lifted the blanket and lay on the bed as well. The unique fragrance of the woman wafted into his nostrils, making him feel -nothing but at ease.

Chapter 64

Sharing the bed with Josephine in the past days had been the most peaceful moment for Ragnar for the past 20odd years. He listened closely to her even breathing and closed his eyes, all ready to fall into a slumber.

Outside the window, the night was accompanied by dazzling moonlight and pulsed with the sound of crickets. The trees were also swaying slightly in

the breeze

Meanwhile, sleep eluded Dorothy in the guest room. She was mad and jealous as she dwelled on the thought of Ragnar getting married so casually, not to mention he had chosen to make a plain looking woman his wife instead of herself, whom she thought was more beautiful.

The more Dorothy thought about it, the stronger the burning sensation in her chest seemed to become. Of course, it was heartbreaking for her.

Dorothy tossed and turned on the bed as she struggled to get some sleep. In the end, she lifted the blanket, got up from bed, and put on her slippers.

She opened the guest room door and headed straight to Ragnar’s bedroom. Leaning her ears on the bedroom door, she tried to eavesdrop on the movements inside the room.

Despite knowing that Ragnar’s house had excellent soundproofing and that she might not hear anything at all, she still wanted to give it a try.

At that point, she could actually hear Ragnar and Josephine talking. Be that as it might, Dorothy wondered if she was only imagining things.

Right then, Hannah caught a glimpse of Dorothy sticking her head to the door of Ragnar’s bedroom. Ms. Smith, what are you doing outside Mr. Levine’s mom?she probed.

Dorothy jumped in fright the instant she heard Hannah’s voice. She straightened her back in a panic and gaped at Hannah in reaction.

I got thirsty, so I came out to get myself some water. I just happened to pass by Dorothy hastily explained.

As soon as Dorothy said that, she left and went back to the guest room.

Dorothy failed to suppress her boiling rage the entire time when she was back in her room. All she wished to do was blow up then and there.

She took out her phone and dialed a number. Just when the call got through, she said, Do me a favor

After hanging up the phone, she slumped onto the bed in hatred and struck the bed with both of her hands, desperately venting her anger.

There’s no way I’ll let Ragnar be taken away like this! He’s mine!Dorothy shouted inwardly.

Vexed, Dorothy sat quietly on the edge of the bed. Falling asleep was no longer an option for her.

At midnight, lightning suddenly flashed across the sky, followed by a series of thunder.

Soon after, rain began pouring down heavily

Boom! Boom!

Dorothy was startled by the sound of thunder. Ever since she was a child, she had always been afraid of thunder. She would become a helpless, nervous wreck whenever there was a thunderstorm.

Terror assailed her heart as she huddled herself and covered her head in fear.

All of a sudden, an idea popped into her head.

She pinched herself so hard that tears would well up in her eyes, making herself look very aggrieved.

She then walked out the door, darted toward Ragnar’s bedroom, and vigorously flung her palm over and over on the door.

She immediately cried a river as she waited for Ragnar to answer the door.

During the interim, Ragnar, who was sleeping soundly, was awakened by the ruckus at the door. A pucker formed between his eyebrows. Clearly, he

was unhappy.

He sneaked a peek at Josephine and was glad that she was still sleeping soundly without being affected by the commotion.

Ragnar leaped up from the bed and opened the door. Before he could react, Dorothy lunged into his arms and sobbed ever so indignantly. Ragnar, I’m so scared. Don’t leave me alone, okay?

Ragnar’s eyes turned chilly on that note. He shoved Dorothy off and questioned, What are you so scared of?

The thunder! Ragnar, it’s so terrifying. I’m afraid of the sound of it.

As Ragnar listened to those words, he remarked, It’s only thunder. What’s there to be afraid of?

Dorothy had least expected such indifference coming from Ragnar. That only served to sadden her more.

Ever since the last incident, Ragnar, I’ve always been afraid of thunderstorms. To say that she looked miserable would be an understatement.

In truth, Dorothy simply wanted to bring up the past.

She had to come up with something just to win Ragnar back.

Ragnar figured out what she was implying, and his visage changed slightly. I’ll see you back to your room.

Having accomplished her goal, Dorothy smirked.

Chapter 14

After all, she had known Ragnar for four years, so she could more or less get ahold of the man.

As long as she mentioned the event that happened four years ago, she knew she was bound to make Ragnar’s heart soften, hence getting her heart’s desire.
