Chapter 7
When Josephine regained consciousness, she realized she was being soaked in a bathtub filled with cold water. The man had even thoughtfully placed
ice cubes in it.
Her teeth chattered as she shivered from the cold.
Meanwhile, Ragnar was standing next to the bathtub.
His mainly concerned was that Josephine, whom he had knocked unconscious, might slip and drown in the bathtub.
When he noticed Josephine had awoken, he said coldly, “I’ve already taken you to the hospital. You’ve been given an injection to improve your blood circulation. You must push through on your own now.”
He turned around and left after he said that.
As Josephine looked at the back of his figure when he was leaving, a thought popped up in her mind. “Damn it! How could he soak me in ice water? Is he really a man? Or was he born in another era?” she cursed inwardly.
However, she remembered the day she went to the wrong hotel and mistakenly barged into Ragnar’s room, Recalling the things she had seen and the photo she had taken, she kept quiet.
Back when the Levine family’s heir suddenly brought Danny and Manny back, Liliana had told Josephine that the babies were possibly delivered by a surrogate mother abroad.
“Well, he might not be capable in that sense, but he was certainly born in another era!” Josephine thought with certainty.
She continued thinking these random thoughts.
By dawn, Josephine thought she should be fine.
She quickly jumped out of the bathtub in which Ragnar had placed quite some ice cubes. She was trembling all over, and she felt a chill in her bones after taking a hot shower.
She then came out wearing a bathrobe. She decisively adjusted the air conditioner to the highest temperature, got under the blankets, and slowly fell
asleep.
The next day, Ragnar pushed open the door and entered.
He immediately frowned because the temperature in the room was so high.
Then he noticed Josephine wrapped up under the blanket. He couldn’t help but wonder, “Is this woman hatching eggs? Is she not afraid of dying from the heat?”
“Wake up.” Ragnar tried everything to wake Josephine up, but she was fast asleep.
He reached out his hand to push her, and the burning heat that transmitted to his hands immediately caused him to frown. “Do you have a fever?”
Then he showed up again in the hospital’s emergency room with Josephine in his arms.
It was the same doctor who had treated Josephine last night.
He was still present because it was not yet time to change shifts.
After checking Josephine’s condition and asking about what happened, the doctor immediately put Josephine on an IV drip
Ragnar asked the driver to stay and keep watch.
Then he left by himself and was about to go to the office.
Chapter 7
When he was leaving, he overheard the gossip among the doctor and the doctor’s colleagues, “Can you believe that in this modern era, there is still a man who is not interested in sex?”
“He remained indifferent to such a delicate little girl. He even literally soaked her in cold water and added ice cubes to the water,”
“Hah! Did he think he was making iced coffee?”
Josephine’s fever subsided around noon.
The driver who stayed with her said, “Ms. Yeager, Mr. Levine was going to sign the contract with you immediately, but you got a fever again. As a result, you’ll have to visit the mansion in the afternoon. Mr. Levine requested that you bring your household registry with you.”
When Josephine remembered what she had promised him the night before, she frowned slightly and said, “Got it.”
On the other side, after Josephine ran out, Samantha, who had returned to her room to rest and thought that her plan was in motion, came out to check on things at once when she heard the sound of the heavy front. door closing.
She saw her son. “What’s going on, Jonathan?”
“Josephine ran away!”
Samantha was taken aback. “Wasn’t it all done? How did she escape?”
“Josephine has a fiery temper! She cut her arm with a glass shard and declared that she wanted to take her own life!” Jonathan complained, “Look at your bad idea, Mom! How should I explain it to Yennefer when she returns from her business trip if Josephine tells her about this incident?”
“Why do you feel the need to explain?” Samantha looked at Jonathan with an expression of disapproval and disappointment. “You were once a poor boy, and Yennefer was stunning. You cared about her as if she was a treasure. But what about now? You are now the owner of a company! As for Yennefer? She’s just an old hag, a married woman who’s unable to have children!” Samantha scolded harshly.
She went on self–righteously, “She hasn’t been able to bear a child after marrying into our family for so many years. Shouldn’t she be the one who owes us an explanation?”
Jonathan said, “But-”
“There are no buts! You need to have more guts. Don’t always act like a loser! I’m telling you now, whether this matter succeeds or not, I can guarantee that I won’t let that bitch, Josephine, talk nonsense!” said Samantha, cutting him off.
With that, Samantha said to Jonathan with a fierce expression, “What are you waiting for? Go after her! Find Josephine and bring her back! This is such a good opportunity. If you let her get away, she might end up in the hands of others, and it’ll only be our loss!”
Jonathan and Samantha immediately went out to replace her,
However, despite extensive searching, they were unable to locate her,
Samantha was furious. “Damn it! We just lost when success was right in front of us!”
Then she thought, “But it doesn’t matter. She can get away this time, but what about the next time? I must be more cautious in the future, and this accident must never occur again!”
Josephine returned to the Zimmerman residence in the afternoon.
Samantha immediately asked with concern, “Where did you go last night, Josie? Jonathan and I were worried that something bad might’ve happened to you. How are you, child? You aren’t hurt, are you?” As she asked the questions, she looked Josephine up and down inquisitively. She was relieved when she didn’t see any signs that Josephine had been with another man.
After all, Josephine was a member of the Zimmerman family, one who was going to bear Jonathan’s child. Samantha didn’t want her to be involved with
other men.
Otherwise, it would be complicated. Even if Josephine gave birth to a child, Samantha would still be worried that the baby was not a true descendant of the Zimmerman family.
Chapter 7
Josephine’s expression was ice–cold.
She looked at Samantha. “Did you know? What you and Uncle Jonathan did last night was illegal! I could sue you and have you sent to prison!”
“What?” Samantha was fearless. “Let’s not talk about whether your Uncle Jonathan and I will go to jail if you sue, but this family will be broken up. You’ve lived in our house for a long time. Before we talk about how I’ve treated you, you should remember that your Uncle Jonathan is very nice to you. Besides, your aunt and uncle are madly in love. Because of you, the family would be destroyed!”
Samantha went on, “Josie, you should know you can’t do such an ungrateful thing! You can’t do anything that harms your aunt and this family”
Josephine was so enraged that she couldn’t reason with Samantha.
Samantha was just a stubborn and unreasonable person. It was pointless for Josephine to try to reason with or scare her.
The moment Josephine said she wanted to send Samantha to the police station; the latter began to lecture her again.
There was nothing Josephine could do when she was faced with this kind of uncivilized and shrewd old lady.
In the end, she said to Samantha in a cold voice, “For the sake of my aunt, I will let this matter go. You’d better think it through next time!”
Samantha smiled smugly. She knew that this would be the outcome.
She even pushed her luck and said, “Josie, not only are you not going to pursue this matter, but you also can’t tell your aunt about this. Otherwise, she would be so upset. What happened yesterday was all on me, and your uncle was also forced to do it. You can’t let your aunt and uncle fight because of me, could you?”
Josephine was speechless.
