BOOK6 Chapter4

All the strength seemed to have been drained from my body, whether from the illness or them, I couldn't tell.

My feet felt as though they were weighed down by lead. I desperately turned

around.

Before I could leave, a sweet voice from behind suddenly grew louder.

"Juliana!"

My body trembled, and it was too late to avoid it.

Turning around, I met Amelia's eyes, which particularly lit up with excitement.

Her goal was about to be achieved, so she should be happy.

Stanley, who didn't expect me to be there, seemed visibly flustered, trying to hide

something.

But Amelia gently tugged at his sleeve.

He had no choice but to walk up to me with a stiff face.

"Juliana, you must have heard what I said. Amelia is pregnant. I'm sorry. We were both drunk that day. I'll give you more money during the property division, and I can't be irresponsible to her."

Overwhelmed with guilt, he couldn't even look at me.

His gaze darted around.

Meanwhile, Amelia, with her hand on her belly, flaunted it to me with a look of

arrogance.

"Juliana, it was wrong of me to do this, but there's nothing wrong with loving someone. Besides, you never gave Stanley a son or daughter over all these years. Should he be childless because of that? You should understand us, right?" Her tone made it seem like I was the mistress.

If this had been before, I would have slapped her across the face for her provocation.

But now, I could only stand there dumbfounded, like an animal in a zoo, utterly lost. The person who used to support me was no longer here, so my arrogance had gone.

Yet my eyes, betraying me, still turned toward Stanley.

Perhaps, even at that moment, there was still hope in my heart.

Even if, just if, he would speak up for me?

I thought, If so, I would forgive you, Stanley. I'm dying, so please have some pity

on me.

Don't be so cruel to me.

Perhaps my gaze was too intense, and Stanley, unable to avoid it, coughed awkwardly.

"Juliana, Amelia is still young and sometimes her words sound harsh, but she's right. Over the years, I've supported you, providing for you without you having to work. I've fulfilled my responsibility." That was his answer.

That was his response to our years of marriage.

Amelia almost couldn't control her laughter.

A sudden commotion filled my ears, and the world around me became increasingly blurry.

I felt a splitting headache, as though countless pieces of wood were hitting my head.

I crouched down, clutching my head, desperately trying to drive away the uncomfortable sensations by hitting myself.

Stanley was startled by my abnormal reaction.

At first, he thought I was just pretending to be ill again, but when he saw the vein: bulging on my forehead, he realized I was truly in pain.

Ignoring everything else, he rushed to my side, supporting me with a worried expression.

"Juliana! Don't scare me! What's wrong with you?"

His voice grew louder, but my consciousness became increasingly fuzzy.

Stanley, why do you have to provoke me? I wondered.

If I turned into a fool, who would take care of you then?

You idiot.

Idiot?

Exactly, I am an idiot....

I suddenly looked up, confused, at the unfamiliar man in front of me, and
