Chapter 58

No! I won’t approve of this! I can’t bear to send my child away. I can’t! Alice was curious to hear whatEthan had to say. “Caroline belongs to the Knight Family.” The man spoke in a firm and unwaveringtone as he stared at her. “So, she has to come home to us.”

His words are so f*cking harsh and straightforward! I can’t even act as if I don’t understand what he’ssaying! Why can’t he be a little less explicit about his needs? He’s so bold and demanding that he givesme the urge to punch him. Even though Ethan didn’t say much, his intentions were clear—he wasgoing to bring Caroline home regardless of whether Alice approved of it. Furthermore, Alice didn’t feellike she could reject Ethan’s request.

If Caroline had belonged to another family, or if someone else had approached Alice, Alice might havefelt more worried. However, she knew that she had no reason to worry if Caroline was entering theKnight Family. The Knight Family was practically a model family in town—they were extremelyrespectable people. Ethan’s grandfather was a war veteran and a leader, while one of his sons was agovernment official with high authority. Ethan himself was focused on the business side of things, andKnight Group was one of the top companies in the whole country. It was rumored that Ethan was moreactive in charity than he was in his business at this point.

A family like the Knights wouldn’t lie to Alice about such things. Furthermore, Alice knew that she hadno reason to stop Caroline from returning to the family, who shared the same blood as her. Eventhough Alice felt really heartbroken, a part of her had always hoped for Caroline to replace her biologicalfamily and return to them. Ethan stared at Alice without saying anything else.

“What are your terms and conditions, Miss Woland? You can tell us what you want.” Caleb had beenstanding beside Ethan the whole time, and he figured that it’d only be appropriate for him to speak upand offer something, especially since Alice had cared for Caroline for the past few years. Even thoughmost of the evidence indicated that Alice wasn’t the one who slept with Ethan that night, Caleb knewthat Ethan treated Alice in a manner that was different from the way he treated other girls. Furthermore,

with all that happened with Caroline, Caleb was certain that Ethan would agree to whatever Alicewanted.

Right then, Caleb recalled what had happened with Woland Group. It seems like Mr. Knight wasn’t toopleased after hearing that Woland Group had been handed over to Bruce. Why doesn’t he just helpMiss Woland get the company back? Someone as capable as Mr. Knight can probably get this donewith the snap of a finger. “Miss Woland, your wedding with Bruce didn’t work out, so…” Caleb wantedto say that they could help Alice to regain control over the Woland Group since the wedding didn’t workout.

However, Alice was in a pretty bad mood then. The child she had taken care of for the past three yearswas about to be snatched away from her after she was presented with a few DNA tests. Anyone in herposition would feel horrible. Alice might have felt a little better if she hadn’t cared for Caroline, but thetruth was that she cared for Caroline to a point where she felt like she had sacrificed more for Carolinethan she did for Apollo. She felt as if someone was slicing off a piece of her and digging her heart outat that moment. On top of that, she felt especially horrible since the other party was speaking to her insuch a demanding manner!

She wasn’t as patient as she usually was, and she interrupted Caleb before he could finish his words.“Yeah, the wedding didn’t happen. So what? Are you guys going to kidnap a guy and make him marryme?” Alice was annoyed at the other party’s haughty demeanor. What do they mean when they tell meto just voice out my terms and conditions? Do they think that I can’t handle things on my own? Do Ilook like I need their help? Do they think I cared for Caroline because I was interested in the KnightFamily’s wealth?

Alice was fuming. However, she knew that everything she said at that moment was fueled—she justwanted to let out some steam. She knew that the Knight Family was powerful, but she also knew thatthey weren’t the type to bully others with their power. It was impossible for them to kidnap Bruce just for

him to get married to her. My precious little Caroline is about to be snatched away from me. Am I notallowed to throw a little tantrum? That’s nonsense!

“Get it done,” Ethan shot Alice a glance before turning to Caleb and giving him orders. “Get whatdone?” Caleb, who had always been smart and well aware of what Ethan was thinking, was stunned bythe orders he received. What does Ethan want me to do? Does he want me to kill Bruce? Or does hewant me to do what Miss Woland said—to kidnap Bruce and force him to marry her? T-That’s notpossible, right? No, no way… It’d make more sense if Mr. Knight were to stop Miss Woland from beingwith Bruce.

Alice was just as surprised. Yeah. What does Ethan want him to do? Alice didn’t understand what wasgoing on either. She had just muttered some nonsense out of anger, and she hadn’t expected Ethan totake her seriously. “I want you to settle the marriage documents.” Ethan parted his sexy lips to giveCaleb clearer orders.

Caleb stared at Ethan dumbfoundedly. I’m sorry, Mr. Knight. I have no idea what you’re talking about.Alice froze for a moment as well. She assumed that Ethan was referring to her marriage documentswith Bruce. “There’s no need for that. Bruce and I—”

Ethan held his hand up and pointed at Alice. “Marriage documents for the two of us,” he uttered.

Alice started coughing as she choked on her own saliva. She had always assumed that she was a calmand collected person after all that she had been through, but she was genuinely shocked by what shejust heard. Caleb felt his knees buckle with shock—he was just as taken aback as Alice was. All theevidence clearly indicates that Miss Woland wasn’t the one who slept with Mr. Knight that night. If that’sthe case, why would he still want to marry Miss Woland? Is this for Miss Caroline?

“No, no. Mr. Knight, I believe I might have made some mistakes with my sentence earlier. Please giveme a chance to rephrase my words. I’ll speak in a more comprehensible way.” Alice felt like she had to

clarify her words. “I was just joking earlier, Mr. Knight.” Alice wondered if her joke had gone too far.

“I don’t joke around with others.” Ethan stared at her as he spoke. He had always been known forhaving a straightforward and simple personality. “Well, I believe you misunderstood my intentions, Mr.Knight. I need money. I really need money now. I lost my marriage and my company; I have no identityand no place to call home. I’m practically a homeless woman at this point. I might even starve to mydeath on the streets someday…” Alice tried her best to force some tears out of her eyes, but it didn’twork.

My acting is horrible today. That’s odd. I had done so well when I was dealing with Bruce. Why am I sobad in front of Mr. Knight? Since Alice couldn’t force any tears out, she tried her best to put on a puppy-eyed look as she stared at Ethan. Deep down, Alice didn’t want money. She already had all the moneyshe needed. However, this option was much better than selling herself to another man. I once heardsomewhere that issues aren’t issues when they can be resolved with money. Things get easy if theycan be settled with money.

“How much do you want?” Ethan was surprised for a moment. After some hesitation, he allowed Aliceto name her price.
