Chapter 62

If Ethan were to ask her some questions at this moment, she would most certainly be caught off guardand would spill the beans.

However, before he could pry any information from her, Alice suddenly stood up and said, “Caroline isadorable and well-behaved. You’ll see when you meet her. Let’s stop here for today. I should go backnow.”

“Alright. I’ll send you home.” He knew he had missed the best opportunity, and with her intelligence andvigilance, asking her about the truth now would be useless.

She wanted to refuse, but she thought about his style of doing things. Even if she refused, he wouldjust do as he pleased.

So, she didn’t say anything and obediently followed him out of the restaurant.

Ethan escorted her to the entrance of her apartment building, which didn’t surprise Alice. He was ableto replace out about Caroline’s situation, so discovering her residence wasn’t a difficult feat at all. After all,she wasn’t living in a secluded area.

When Alice first returned to Rodcaster, she didn’t bring Caroline along because of the weddingpreparations. She was afraid she wouldn’t have time to take care of Caroline or that something mighthappen to the girl.

However, Cecilia had no choice but to bring Caroline over when the girl cried and begged to see Aliceonly two days after her return.

After Caroline arrived, Alice moved to this side of town with her, living in the apartment her grandfatherhad given her.

She had to live separately from Apollo because even though Apollo knew of Caroline, Caroline didn’tknow him.

Thus, Apollo was taken care of by Archie.

Since Alice was constantly being chased after when she was in Cliaria, Apollo’s identity had alwaysbeen kept hidden, as she wouldn’t allow her boy to be in danger.

Later on, the boy appeared as Tanner’s son, which was the perfect way to conceal his true identity andprotect himself.

That way, the outsiders would only know that Tanner had a son instead of Alice had a son.

Apollo was a member of the Wolands, and he was smarter and more mature than most children, so heknew a lot about the Wolands’ affairs.

However, Caroline was oblivious to all of this, and Alice only hoped that Caroline could live a simple, safe, and happy life.

Perhaps it was because Apollo was known as Tanner’s son that even Ethan couldn’t replace out aboutApollo’s relationship with Alice.

“I’ll come to pick up Caroline tomorrow. And… you, too.” Ethan sent Alice to the entrance of theapartment building but didn’t mention anything about heading up, even though Caroline was rightupstairs.

Even though they had just gotten married today!

“Okay.” Alice didn’t want to see him, as he was good at driving people crazy.

However, she knew she couldn’t change his decision, so she didn’t bother struggling anymore.

From what he said, it was clear that she was just an accessory, and there was no point in struggling forher.

Caleb was standing afar, thinking, This is Mr. Knight’s first time sending a girl home. Does he feelnervous? Would he feel uneasy? Would he…

Alice didn’t have the mood to muse over these things as she was only thinking about how to tellCaroline about this.

She didn’t even glance at Ethan and went straight into the building. Then, she headed directly to theelevator without any reluctance.

Caleb blinked and wondered why she left so quickly. After all, Ethan was still standing outside the door, and it would have been better if she had at least spared a glance at him.

Ethan had never been in a relationship before; this was his first time sending a girl home. Calebcouldn’t help but wonder if Alice’s behavior would discourage Ethan. She should have given Mr. Knightsome encouragement. That way, he can try harder in the future!

Caleb couldn’t see Ethan’s expression clearly in the dark, but he felt that his young master lookedlonely and pitiful while standing alone.

Ethan suddenly turned around and fixed his gaze on Caleb, sending chills down Caleb’s spine andmaking him straighten his posture immediately.

Looking at the man before him, Caleb realized the words ‘loneliness’ and ‘pitiful’ could never beassociated with Ethan.

When Alice returned home, Caroline was still awake as she was playing with the lady in charge oftaking care of her.

Ethan would come to pick up Caroline tomorrow, so Alice had to explain the situation to her, but shehad no idea how to break the news to the girl.

Alice figured she should play the role of the villain in this situation, as she would ultimately have toseparate from Caroline.

“Sweetie, Mommy just sold you,” she started with a rather sad tone.

“Really? How much did you sell me for?” Caroline’s eyes lit up suddenly as if she was brimming withexcitement.

Baffled, Alice blinked a few times, wondering why the girl would look so excited after being told shewas sold.

“Seventy-two million.” At the thought of the money in her bank account, Alice couldn’t help but marvelat Ethan’s wealth and impulsive actions.

Of course, she wouldn’t take any of his money. All of that money was for Caroline.

“Wow! So much money! We’re rich! We’re rich! This is great! Mommy, send me to them first, and thenI’ll sneak back. After that, we can spend the money together.” The little girl was excited when she heardabout the money. She kept jumping up and down in joy.

Alice was left speechless, however.

When did I raise a little bandit for a daughter? Did something go wrong with how I educated her?

Though, that certainly was not the case. Alice had always been attentive to instilling correct values inher children. She even studied and researched extensively on the topic.

In that case, it has to be Cecilia. What had she been teaching Caroline while I was away? This wassupposed to be a sad scene. How did it turn out like this?

“Sweetie, not only did I sell you, but I also sold myself.” Alice wasn’t intentionally trying to burstCaroline’s bubble.

It was just that she had already sold herself to Ethan, so Caroline’s plan of sneaking away and splittingthe money with her probably wouldn’t work.

“How much did you sell yourself for, then?” The little girl’s focus was slightly different.

“Not even a dime.” As soon as she said that, Alice froze for a moment. Then, her lips visibly twitched.

Those seventy-two million were for Caroline, while she didn’t get a penny. In Ethan’s eyes, Alice wasworthless!

The fact really hurt.

However, if it weren’t for Caroline, she and Ethan wouldn’t have crossed paths with each other. She bethe wouldn’t even know who she was.

As for that night, it was purely an accident, and Ethan didn’t even know it was her!

“Mommy, I have seventy-two million, so I’ll share half with you. I can give you thirty-six dollars.”Caroline was still thinking about the hefty sum of money and was generous enough to give half of it toAlice.

Though, Alice couldn’t help but think something wasn’t right.

It was then a realization struck her. Half of seventy-two million is thirty-six?!
