Evening Game -
Epilogue
“Brother, is breakfast done!?”
Fiona asked from her bedroom, her yell breaking the calm silence of the morning air.
“A bit more.”
Ethan answered. Her door was violently shut and he could hear her rushed footsteps stepping toward him.
“Come on, I’ll be late again.”
“And whose problem do you think that is?”
“Slowpoke.”
Ethan put the cheese sandwich he made into a plastic container and slid it toward Fiona. Fiona grabbed it and put it into her bag before darting away,
“Hey-”
“Bye.”
She said curtly as she stormed out of the house. The roar of a motorcycle engine could be heard, accompanied by the fence opening. Ethan let out a tired sigh and a yawn as he brought his sandwich to the dining table. He ate them, savoring the taste of the bread and cheese. Upon finishing, he washed his hands and went to the mirror near their front bathroom. He tidied up his looks and checked his bag for all his belongings, making sure he didn’t leave anything behind. He then left the house, locking the charcoal-colored fence behind him. He took a look at the place he called home, the old house with a blue-colored exterior.
He turned away from the building and made his way down the street, clouds forming high above in the morning sky. The wet season would soon come, and rain would prevent him from walking like this. The pleasant morning breeze blew past his skin, shaking the trees above that provided cover from the shining sun.
His trip didn’t take long, and he soon found himself standing in front of the now familiar building that acted as his school, its name standing proudly over its entrance. He made his way inside, navigating through the thin corridors all the way to his classroom on the other end of the complex. He put his hand on the silver handle. He gripped it and carefully pushed the door open.
Inside, he found a now familiar girl sitting in the same place she always sat, looking at him with her clear red eyes. A smile appeared on her face.
“Good morning, Ethan.”
