Chapter 369

Chapter 369 I’m Here, Don’t Be Afraid

The incident happened too suddenly, and Aletta had no time to react. She watched Jason rushingtowards her. And the next second, his momentum brought them both crashing to the ground. Aletta’smind went blank.

At the same time, something hit the nearby car. It was the sound of a silenced bullet hitting the vehicle!Eaton and the hidden. bodyguards quickly realized what was happening. They swiftly drew their gunsand counterattacked in the direction of the bullet’s source–fast, accurate, and decisive.

The figure in black not far away seemed caught off guard and was hit in the shoulder. Seeing thatEaton and the others were about to pursue, the person had no choice but to give up and disappear intothe chaos of the crowd.

“Chase the person! We can’t let the person escape!”

With the danger eliminated, Eaton made a decisive decision and ordered the bodyguards to givechase. He rushed towards Jason and Aletta, calling out, “Sir, Ms. Aletta, are you both okay?”

Aletta’s blank mind gradually cleared as she was called. She quickly asked Jason, who was still on topof her, “Jason, are you alright?”

Before the person on top of her could respond, Aletta suddenly felt that the spot she was touching wassticky. She blankly raised her hand, only to see it covered in blood.

Her heart skipped a beat, and she was stunned. Jason… had he been shot?

Aletta’s voice tensed up, “Jason, how are you? Where are you injured? You’re bleeding…”

“I’m fine, don’t be afraid,” Jason reassured her with slightly labored breath. He called out, “Eaton.”

Eaton immediately reacted and helped Jason up, his face filled with worry as he looked at him.

Aletta got up from the ground and hurriedly checked his arm. His clothes were torn, and indeed. Hehad been grazed by the bullet. Blood was seeping out…

The injury wasn’t severe, but Aletta’s breathing almost halted. If they had been a few seconds slower, the bullet might have pierced Jason’s heart. If Jason hadn’t reacted and she hadn’t noticed, the bulletwould have gone through her body as well.

Thinking of this, Aletta broke out in a cold sweat right then and there. She felt chilled to the bone.

Seeing Aletta’s pale face, Jason reached out and held her. Comforting her, “It’s alright now, don’t beafraid.”

Eaton looked at the location of Jason’s injury and quickly suggested, “Sir, let’s bandage it first. It’s notsuitable to stay here.”

The commotion had already attracted the attention of passersby. Despite feeling terrified inside, Alettagradually regained her composure. Jason’s injury was more important.

She echoed and said, “Let’s go to Lewis’s research institute first. It’s only a ten–minute drive from here, and we’ll be there soon.”

“Okay,” Jason didn’t refuse.

The three of them quickly set off for Lewis’s research institute.

On the way, Aletta had already provided emergency first aid to Jason’s wound.

Lewis had just returned to the research institute not long ago and was surprised to see Aletta comingback again. He asked with some confusion, “Why are you back?”

As he spoke, his gaze subconsciously glanced at Jason. It was the first time he had seen the otherperson, so he was a little surprised because he came together with Aletta.

However, his eyes were soon drawn to the injury on Jason’s shoulder.

“A gunshot wound?” Lewis recognized it at a glance, and his pupils involuntarily contracted.

Aletta nodded and told him, “I was attacked shortly after you left. But fortunately, he saved me in time.”

Lewis’s face turned pale, and he worriedly asked, “Are you alright? Where are you injured?”

Aletta shook her head, “I’m fine, I’m not injured.”

Only then did Lewis feel relieved. He looked at Jason’s wound again and said, “Follow me, let’s treatthe wound first.”

He led them to the medical room.

Lewis quickly fetched the necessary supplies. Aletta helped cut open Jason’s clothes and tooktweezers, cotton, and disinfectant from the first aid kit. She personally tended to Jason’s wound.

While assisting with the dressing, Aletta anxiously asked several times, “Does it hurt?”

Jason gently shook his head and reassured her, “No, don’t worry too much.”

Despite his comforting words, Aletta couldn’t help but feel a sourness in her heart for some reason. She suppressed her emotions and bandaged Jason’s wound, which took a while to complete.

After finishing the procedure, Lewis helped tidy up. Then asked Aletta, “Did you see the person whoattacked you? I have connections with the police. I can have them help you catch the culprit.”

Aletta shook her head. She didn’t even have a chance to look back, but Jason spoke up, “The persondisguised themselves, and I couldn’t see their appearance clearly.”

Lewis nodded and said, “They attacked outside the restaurant, right?”

“Yes,” Aletta confirmed.

“Alright, no matter who they are. If they commit violence in public, they can’t go unchecked. I’ll send amessage to have them retrieve the surveillance footage from the area. We should be able to trackdown the person,” Lewis stated confidently.

Aletta hurriedly expressed her gratitude, “Thank you so much, Lewis.”

Lewis waved his hand dismissively, “We’re all on the same side.”

He quickly contacted his contacts. Arranged the matter, and then turned his attention back to Aletta andJason. He asked, “I didn’t get a chance to ask earlier, but who is this…?”

Before Aletta could speak, Jason proactively raised his hand and said, “Jason, Aletta’s fiancé.”

Lewis was taken aback and looked at Aletta, saying, “You have a fiancé?”

Aletta blinked and thought to herself, “Not just a fiancé, but also an ex–husband!” However, in front ofLewis, she didn’t want to undermine Jason’s statement. So, she replied, “Yes, it was arranged by ourfamilies in the past.”

Lewis suddenly realized and shook hands with Jason, saying, “Nice to meet you, I’m Lewis.”

Jason politely replied, “I’ve heard Aletta mention you before. Thank you for taking care of her in thepast.”

Lewis smiled and said, “No need for thanks. We treat her like a little sister, it’s only natural.”

Then he asked, “So, are you two planning to go back first or wait here for the investigation results fromthe police?”

Aletta glanced at Jason and let him make the decision.

In a warm and calm tone, Jason said, “We’ll go back to the hotel first. They can notify us if there’s anynews.”

Lewis didn’t object and said, “Just be careful, and contact me if anything comes up.”

Aletta nodded.

Soon, she left with Jason and returned to the hotel. On the way, the person who attacked her didn’tappear again.

Once the three of them safely arrived at the hotel, they went back to their room. Aletta was still filledwith worry, and it was evident on her face.

Jason lifted his hand and gently touched her forehead, saying. ‘Don’t worry anymore. Go take a showerand rest. Leave the rest to me, I’m here for you.”
