Chapter 388
Chapter 388 From Now On, I’ll Serve You Like This
Aletta had nodded and pressed the intercom button, calling for Annie to come over.
Annie arrived shortly after.
Aletta had instructed, “Take him for a physical examination, and I’ve written down the specific tests onthe list!”
Annie nodded and said, “Alright, Mr. Rogers, please follow me.”
Walt nodded, stood up, and left with Annie.
Just as they left, Aletta’s phone rang.
She glanced at it and saw that it was Lewis calling. She quickly answered, “Lewis, what’s the matter?”
Lewis’s serious voice came through from the other end, “Your test results have shown significantchanges, and it’s very obvious. The intense pain you felt in your heart earlier is probably not a goodsign. The medication. inside your body is accelerating the deterioration.”
Aletta had anticipated this in her heart, and her mood slightly darkened.
She said to Lewis, “Lewis, I’ve found out some things on my end and have a general idea of who isbehind this.”
Lewis’s tone became serious as he asked, “Who is it?”
“It’s… mentor Albert.”
There were a few seconds of silence on the phone, and Lewis thought he must have misheard. Unableto believe it, he cautiously asked, “Are you sure? How could it be him?”
Aletta nodded and analyzed in detail, “Before, when we were abroad, you mentioned that themedication has a six–month incubation period. But now it’s suddenly accelerating. And a few days ago,I saw mentor Albert at your place…”
“How is it such a coincidence? He suddenly showed up! If it was just to notify us of a meeting, a phonecall or an email would have sufficed. He has our contact information, but he personally made the trip…So, I think the so–called academic exchange meeting might just be a cover–up.”
Aletta didn’t mention the mentor’s involvement in the incident where the child was taken away.
But what she had revealed so far was shocking enough for Lewis.
He found it hard to believe and continued to say, “But I remember, at that time, he didn’t have muchcontact with you. How could he target you?”
Aletta remained silent for a few seconds regarding this matter before saying, “I’m not sure about thespecific method, but when I was in country, someone gave me a sachet. At that time, the other persononly needed the scent of the sachet to trigger my discomfort.”
Therefore, physical contact wasn’t necessary at all.
As long as the scent was in the air, it could also provoke a reaction from her.
As she said this, Aletta suddenly recalled the situation when they saw the mentor that day.
She said to Lewis, “When we saw him that day, there was indeed a strange scent on him, but at thattime, I thought it was perfume… Now, thinking back, that scent had some similarities to the sachet Ihad.”
As Lewis heard this, his tone became even more cautious, and he asked, “What was inside the sachetgiven to you by someone else?”
“It was a medication with catalytic ingredients…”
Lewis wasn’t sensitive to scents, but he knew that Aletta worked in fragrance creation.
Since Aletta herself was saying this and all the signs pointed to the mentor, it was almost certain.
Lewis pondered for a moment and said to Aletta, “Aletta, I’ll come to your country in a couple of days.Your situation needs to be taken seriously.”
His tone suddenly became grave, “I suspect that your condition will become even more precarious…”
After listening, Aletta hesitated for a moment and said, “If you come, will it affect your research there? Will my situation trouble you too much?”
Upon hearing this, Lewis chuckled on the other end of the phone, “Why are you being polite with me?The others haven’t been idle these past few days either. They’ve put aside their own work to helpresearch this medication for you.”
He earnestly told Aletta, “We can conduct our research at any time, but you only have one life.”
Implicitly, he prioritized her life above all else.
These words deeply moved Aletta, and she couldn’t help but feel touched.
Afterwards, she talked with Lewis for a little while longer before hanging up the phone.
Annie had assisted Walt with the examination throughout the morning.
However, the results would take a little longer to come out.
Aletta directly told Walt, “You can go back for now. I’ll contact you once the results are ready.”
“Okay, thank you.”
Walt had sincerely expressed his gratitude to Aletta.
Aletta waved her hand, indicating that it was nothing.
After Walt left, she made a phone call to Jason.
“Are you at the office?”
“Yeah.”
Jason’s magnetic voice came through from the other side, and he told her, “I’ve been in meetings allmorning and just returned to the office.”
Aletta raised an eyebrow and asked, “Didn’t you rest?”
Jason replied, “There were some urgent matters that needed to be handled!”
Upon hearing this, Aletta couldn’t help but tease him, “You were the one who scolded me this morning, and now you’re doing the same thing!”
When they got busy, they ignored their own bodies.
Jason had heard the annoyance in her voice and smiled gently, “After I finish up today, I’ll go homeearly and rest. Is that okay?”
“That’ll do.”
After saying that, Aletta asked, “Have you eaten? Shall I come over to meet you?”
Since she hadn’t eaten either, they could have a meal together.
“Sure.”
Jason naturally won’t refuse her. “What do you want to eat? I’ll make a reservation at a restaurant.”
Aletta says casually, “Let’s order takeout and have lunch in your office without going through the troubleof going to a restaurant.”
“Okay.”
Jason hadn’t minded either.
After ending the call, Aletta set off and went to Hill Group.
By the time she arrived, the ordered meal had just been delivered.
Jason set aside his work, and they had lunch together.
Although it was takeout, he had a five–star hotel specially deliver it, so the variety of dishes wasabundant, no less than what one would have in a restaurant.
During the meal, Jason attentively removed fish bones for Aletta and served her food, taking care ofher in every way.
“Eat a bit more, you’ve been losing weight recently.”
Looked at the bowls piled up like small mountains, Aletta can’t help but laugh, “That’s enough, I won’tbe able to finish it all.”
While eating, she couldn’t help but sigh, “I would have never dared to imagine such a scene before.”
Just being able to have a meal with him at the same table had already been good enough for her. Howcould she have dared to expect him to serve her like this?
Jason had known what she meant and readily said, “From now on, I’ll attend to you like this.”
Upon hearing his words. Aletta smiled and said seriously, “You can’t go back on your word!”
Jason also nodded seriously, “I won’t go back on it.”
Aletta was in a very pleasant mood, and during the meal, she bought up the main topic.
“By the way, what happened with Lyne, who gave me the sachet? I forgot to ask before.”
Jason thought for a moment and remembered this particular person.
“Eaton investigated earlier, and Lyne confessed that she was indeed bribed by someone to deliver thesachet accurately into your hands!“
