Chapter 49

“YOU!”

His demand sent chills down my spine. I thought that he might ask for some Ramson or something like that but I was wrong. But nothing could have prepared me for what came next.

else. “I am sending a car to your footsteps,” his voice rang out, cold and calculating. “If you don’t come with it, your friend will not see the next morning. That’s my promise to you, and I dare you to tell anyone

My blood ran cold at his words, a wave of terror crashing over me. My breath caught in my throat. I was scared to the core. But before I could say anything he hung up.

I can’t beleive how could he steep so low. I didn’t want to go, to walk willingly into the lion’s den, but the thought of Clara enduring even a moment more agony was unbearable. She didn’t deserve this. She had nothing to do with whatever twisted game this man was playing.

She doesn’t deserve it.

She has nothing to do with it.

still Only a few minutes passed when I heard the honk of a car. I knew it was the one he had sent, waiting to whisk me away to god–knows–where. With reluctant heart and heavy steps I moved towards the car and sat inside. The cries of Clara are ringing in my head. I can’t let her suffer because of me. I had to free her. My life is already a mess. No one would shed a tear if I were to disappear, but Clara’s pain would haunt me for eternity if I didn’t act

With a click, something was activated, dividing the interior of the car and cutting off my view of the outside world. Panic surged within me as I realized I was now trapped, isolated from any semblance of escape or understanding of our destination.

I strained against the barrier, desperate for even the smallest glimpse of my surroundings, but all I encountered was a blank wall of darkness. The area was small and suffocating-

I kept on taking deep breaths. I closed my eyes reminding myself that I am not alone. But as I closed my eyes to fight my fear, the face that I could see was that of Luciano.

My eyes shot open and at the same time the car came to the halt. The barriers disappeared and now I could clearly see the surroundings. The driver came out to open the door for me and when I stepped out I saw a wooden cottage in the middle of the deserted and dark area. It was giving looking and bad vibes. The driver pointed towards it, conforming that it is the place where they have kept my friend hostage.

With a silent prayer on my lips, I set off towards the cottage, steeling myself for the challenges that lay ahead. My head was spinning and my body felt heavy but I still managed to move forward.

The guards opened the door for me and I stepped inside, sterling myself for what lay ahead. But nothing could have prepared me for the sight that greeted me–a scene straight from the depths of my worst nightmares.

My friend, Clara, was tied a wall. Her arms and legs spread in the form of an X. Her body has several black and blue marks, showing the brutality of that monster. Tears streamed down her cheeks, mingling with the blood that trickled from her wounds, as she cried out in anguish.

“Clara!” I cried out, my voice raw with emotion as I reached out to her, my fingers trembling as they brushed against her bruised skin. She flinched at my touch, her eyes wide with fear and confusion.

With shaking hands, I fumbled with the ropes that held her captive, my breath coming in ragged gasps as I struggled to undo the knots that held her fast. Each second felt like an eternity.

Finally, with a desperate tug, the last knot came undone, and Clara’s bonds fell away, leaving her trembling and weak in my arms. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she clung to me, her body shaking uncontrollably.

“I am sorry Clara” I apologised, my eyes brimming with tears “because of me you have to suffer so much”

And then I heard the footsteps which were followed by the devil himself. My blood boiled and I could feel my nerves popping out in anger. One of his men came forward with a plush chair and he sat over it like a king. Clara, out of fear, scrunched into me more. I am sure he must have shown utmost brutality over her. She is not among those who breaks. easily. wanted to kill him with my bare hands.

“Why you did all this Nathanéil?” I asked, finally breaking my silence.

“For you, Vanessa, he replied, his words dripping with malice. “You left me with no other option. You refused to come to me the easy way.”

I’gulped, my eyes narrowed at him. I regret every moment I thought of him as a good guy. He is a pure devil in the clothing

of human.

“Now that I’m here, just tell me what you want and let us go,” I demanded, my voice laced with defiance even as my heart pounded with fear.

With his gaurds standing at the back, I knew that he will not let us go so easily.

He chuckled and stood up, walking to us like a predator move towards it’s prey. Clara walked and hide behind me. She could barely support herself. My head was dizzy and my body felt weak. It was difficult for me as well to support her and stand by myself. Still I stood straight to face the monster in front of me.

“You already know what I want, Senorita,” he hissed, the way he addressed me sending a shiver down my spine. It was the same term of endearment he had once used so freely, now twisted into something grotesque and repulsive.

Standing at a hand distance from me, he lifted his hand to tilt my chin.

“I want you” his thumb caressed my chin

I snapped my head away, a primal instinct driving me to remove his tainted touch from my skin. I would not let him lay

claim to me, not now, not ever.

Suddenly he snapped his fingers and his man pulled away Clara from me. She cried with the little energy left in her. My body instantly turned around, my hands reaching out for her. I stepped ahead to pull her back to me but before I could reach her, a strong arm wrapped around my waist. Nathaniel pulled me closer to his chest, stopping me at my place.

“Leave her Nathaniel! Just leave her!” I thrashed in his hold but my strength was nothing in comparison to his. I can’t free myself no matter how much I tried.

My body paralyzed the moment one of his men put the barrel of a gun against her head. My eyes widened and my breath hitched in my throat.

“She is going to leave the Earth, Vanessa and you are going to witness it!”
