Chapter 25
#Chapter 25: Show Some Class
Nathan sighed, and shut his eyes for a moment as though he was exasperated with me for simply going on a walk with his sister.
“Did you pay attention to where you were walking just now?” he asked.
I frowned. “What? What are you talking about?”
Nathan pointed down at my dress. “That’s what I’m talking about,” he said. “Didn’t you pay attention?”
I furrowed my brow in confusion, and followed his finger down to my dress. As I did, my eyes widened.
My dress, which was already d*rty from the fall, was now covered in mud and
briars all along the hem. What was once a beautiful white dress was now torn and blackened with mud.
“I-I must have stepped through mud somehow on our walk,” I said, bending down to pick off some of the pri ckly briars with my fingers. “I’m sorry. I didn’t notice.”
“Olivia…” Nathan lowered his voice, but still sounded a little exasperated. I looked up to meet his stern gaze and instantly noticed that other people were already staring. In particular, Angela and her friends were snickering and pointing at me.
Angela even had her phone out and seemed to be snapping pictures of my embarrassment.
“It was an accident,” I replied, tearing my eyes away from the nasty girls. I tried to think back on my walk with Jenifer, but I didn’t recall ever walking through mud and briars.
Unless…
I looked over at Jenifer, who was now standing with Colin a ways away. She met my gaze, and I saw a flash of satisfaction come across her face. Beside her, Colin just folded his arms across his chest and shook his head disappointedly. I felt my face go red.

Jenifer must have intentionally led me through a muddy briar patch while we were
talking. I knew that something was off when she was asking me such personal
questions… She was distracting me.
All along, was her whole plan today just to humiliate me for some reason? Was that
why the dress was so small and delicate?
“Nathan, I told you that this dress was too small,” I said. “That’s why it ripped
earlier. And then just now, Jenifer took my arm and started asking me very personal
questions, and it distracted me-
Nathan just shook his head. “Don’t blame my sister,” he said. “It’s not a huge deal,
but… I just need you to keep in mind in the future that you’re supposed to be the mate of an Alpha now. You have to show some class, even when it feels like
everything is against you.”
My eyes widened. “Show some class?” I asked incredulously, feeling anger bubbling inside of me at my childhood friend’s words. “What, do you think I’m low class or something? Everything that happened today was an accident. I thought you knew
up
that.”
“I know it was all an accident,” Nathan replied, his voice so low it was almost a growl. “But these accidents keep happening because you’re not paying attention to your surroundings. If you had held on tighter during the hunt- if you had just paid attention to where you were walking earlier, and picked up your skirt like a lady-”
I scowled deeply. “That’s not fair,” I growled, folding my arms across my chest. “It’s not fair, and you know it. You’re being a jerk, Nathan.”
Nathan sighed and passed his hand over his face. “I’m sorry. I’m not trying to be at jerk. I’m just asking that you take a little more care with your surroundings. We’re not kids playing outside in the dirt and the mud anymore with no repercussions.”
I didn’t know what to say. All I could do was stare icily up at Nathan.
“Now come on,” Nathan said, grabbing my hand. “Let’s at least try to salvage this by getting you a fresh dress to wear.”

and were pointing at my ruined dress. My lower l*p started to quiver, and my eyes
gat
began to fill with tears.
“I’m going home. I don’t want to be here anymore today.” I made a point of picking
up my muddy skirt, and I made a face at him before I turned on my heel and stormed
off.
“Olivia!” Nathan called after me. “Come on!”
But I didn’t listen. I just kept going, keeping my back turned to the crowd to hide
my tears until their laughter and Nathan’s calls were out of earshot.
As I stormed off through the woods, I cursed repeatedly under my breath and
rubbed my tears out of my eyes. “Stu pid picnic…” I whispered, clutching my torn
dress in my hand as though my life depended on it.
Once I was out of the woods, I turned down the road and began the two-mile walk
home. The high heels that I wore started to hurt, and so I angrily kicked them off
and carried them the rest of the way.
People driving by stared at me out their car windows, but I didn’t care.
Show some class, he said. I wasn’t low class at all! Who said that I needed to dress up in fancy dresses and high heels like the other girls, when I would have done so much better in my comfortable clothes? Besides, lace dresses and high heels weren’t
appropriate for a day spent in the woods…
This whole tradition was ridiculous, and the fact that Nathan was trying to shove
me into this ‘ladylike’ mold to fit the perfect image of a Luna when I wasn’t even in a real relationship with him made my blood boil.
By the time I arrived back at home, the sun was almost starting to go down and the tears on my face were caked and dry. I let myself in and then stormed up the steps. to my room, where I tore the dress off and threw it right in the trash.
I picked up my phone to replace that there were a dozen missed calls and texts from
Nathan, but I didn’t answer and just threw my phone down on my bed with an angry
huff.
Then, after a shower to wash off the dirt caked on my skin from my fall, I threw

myself down onto my bed and sobbed into my pillow.
I wasn’t sure exactly how long I laid there, crying until no more tears would come. All I knew was that eventually my room became dark, and eventually I heard the sound of the door opening and closing downstairs.
I heard the sound of footsteps slowly coming up the creaky stairs and then down the hallway until they stopped in front of my door.
There was a series of soft knocks on my door.
“Go away, Nathan!” I yelled through the door, my voice h oar se from crying. “I just wanna be left alone!”
Nathan paused for a few moments. I hoped that he would just walk away and leave me be, but he didn’t. I felt anger bubbling up inside of me as I heard the door creak open, and I sat up and quickly wiped away my tears with my sleeve.
“Olivia.” Nathan was standing in the doorway with his arms folded across his chest.
There was a long silence as we stared at each other in the dimly lit room. I couldn’t tell if he was disappointed with me or if he felt sorry for the way that he treated me.
