Chapter 141

When Robert saw them coming, he greeted them enthusiastically.

He pulled Summer into his embrace and pushed Edith to Carlos‘ side.

Edith stumbled and almost sprained her ankle. If it weren’t for Carlos‘ catching her in time, she would have fallen on the ground.

As soon as they had physical contact, Edith immediately withdrew her hand and felt uncomfortable all over.

Edith still did not know how to face Carlos.

Her eyes flickered, but she avoided looking at him.

Robert gave Aaron and Brian a look, and then they casually found an excuse to go out, leaving only Edith and Carlos in the private.

Edith was anxious to leave, only to replace the door closed.

As soon as she turned around, she fell into Carlos‘ arms.

Carlos was so strong that he pressed her directly against the door. She struggled wildly in fear, her arms hitting his arm several times involuntarily, which made him frown slightly..

“Feel free to struggle if you want me to die of pain.” Carlos‘ hoarse voice lingered in her ears.

Hearing this, Edith froze in fear.

But then she came to her senses and said crossly, “Liar! You don’t feel any pain!”

“I’m a man. Wouldn’t it be embarrassing to cry out in pain in front of a woman?” Carlos knocked her on the head and added, “Besides, if I cry out in pain, you’ll be softhearted. Why do I have to play the tough guy?”

Carlos could see through people’s weaknesses at a glance as a seasoned businessman.

He knew Edith was kind–hearted and would feel sorry for him, so he took advantage of it.

Edith immediately realized that Carlos had her completely under his control.

An overwhelming sadness seized her.

Edith said with heat, “Carlos, you’re the president. How dare you use such shameless means on me? Aren’t you afraid of being laughed at by others?”

“Who has the gall to laugh at me?” asked Carlos authoritatively.

What he said was the truth, which made it impossible for Edith to refute.

Edith pouted in anger and felt highly aggrieved. “Carlos, you are a liar. You sweet–talked me, but in fact, you love someone else. So do you want Natalie’s shadow now? I don’t want to be her substitute. I would rather be a widow than be with you. You are a hypocritical person. I’ll never believe what you say again…”

Edith was talking non–stop and expressing her dissatisfaction angrily when Carlos suddenly bent down with a slight frown….

Edith was startled by the sudden kiss.

She goggled at him, too shocked to resist.

Edith stared blankly at the handsome face in front of her. It was impeccable, and every part was so perfect that she couldn’t take her eyes off it.

By the time she regained her senses, it was already too late.

“Bastard! I don’t want to see you again. Let’s go our separate ways. If you mess with me again….. …….. I’ll…..”

“What?” Carlos‘ interest was suddenly piqued. He looked at her in amusement.

How could his pouting little wife be so cute?

She was so cute when quarreling with others.

Carlos wanted to reach out and touch her head, but she grabbed him tightly.

In a fit of anger, Edith bit him directly.

She bit the back of his hand hard.

She tasted blood in her mouth, but Carlos did not dodge or groan in pain.

Everything around them was so calm.

All of a sudden, Edith felt the bite didn’t help to vent her anger at all. She put his hand down angrily, and her eyes turned red with

indignation.

“Why didn’t you avoid it? You don’t feel any pain?”

“To be honest, it hurts a lot.”

“Then why didn’t you resist?” Edith asked furiously.

As he looked at her flushed face, Carlos‘ heart melted.

He raised his hand and wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes with his warm fingers. This time, she did not resist but looked at him in a daze.

“Because I upset you. I’m supposed to calm you down and lift your spirits. It’s just a bite. It’s not a big deal as long as you don’t ignore me. It feels bad to be rejected by you. No one dares to refuse me. You’re quite bold.”

His words were low and gentle, lingering in her ears and conveying his love and concern for her, which confused her.

What did Carlos mean? Edith had known Natalie and her relationship with him and made it clear to him, but why was he still so nice to her?

Was there something wrong with him?

“I know why you’re with me!” Edith reminded him grumpily.

Her words awakened Carlos‘ curiosity. He could not help but raise his eyebrows and ask, “Oh? This should be good.”

He raised the tone of the last word, which sounded indescribably pleasant..

“Meggie told me that you and Natalie were together. The reason why you pestered me was that Natalie and I have something in common. I’m a substitute to make you feel like she’s still with you. You are not serious at all. Now that Natalie is returning, you will abandon me. Just like when we made an appointment at the cafe, you disappeared for the whole day. And that day at the supermarket, we were together, but you sent her away first.

“Do you think I’m stupid? Do you think I’m a pushover? That’s why you did these things above board so everyone else knows it. And now you’re telling me the truth. Am I really stupid in your eyes, so you don’t need to try to lie to me?”
