Fall For “My Husband’s Uncle” By Janet Macadam -
Chapter 165
Chapter 165
Natalie sounded weak, and her delicate voice echoed throughout the entire hospital ward.
Upon hearing those words, Carlos‘ imposing frame stiffened slightly.
He was not able to keep up his words.
His deep, mysterious eyes gazed at her, and his voice was soft and husky.
“So, are you blaming me?”
“I wouldn’t dare.”
As her rosy lips parted, she softly uttered those words.
Yet, her gentle remarks deeply affected Carlos and he was overwhelmed by complex emotions.
Although Natalie’s tone was gentle, her heart was actually full of resentment.
He knew he owed Natalie.
Natalie turned around, opened the door, and left.
As she closed the door, she paused and spoke softly, “She’s not like me. Please treat her well and don’t turn her into a second me. There aren’t many good girls in this world for you to disappoint. And as for what you owe me, it’s paid back now. We are even.”
Then, she gently closed the door and left.
Her words echoed in his mind long after she had gone.
He looked at Edith, who was still unconscious on the hospital bed and looked very fragile at the moment.
It was as if she would shatter into pieces with even the slightest touch.
It was so sad to see her like this.
She was not Natalie, and he was not the same Carlos from years ago.
Was this change a lesson learned from Natalie, or had Edith changed him in subtle ways?
No one could say for certain.
He stopped thinking about it.
Edith had a long dream. She dreamed that she had gone to heaven.
Heaven was really warm, but something hard was pushing into her back. It felt stiff and uncomfortable.
She seemed to hear someone talking, a man and a woman, but she could not remember what they said.
“Is this an angel?”
“Do angels in heaven have genders?” She thought to herself..
She opened her eyes groggily and saw a strange ceiling. The strong smell of disinfectant filled her nose.
Before she could even realize where she was, she suddenly felt a warm hug.
“Oh, you’re awake! Thank goodness.”
The voice was incredibly familiar… it was…
She was a bit surprised. “You’re dead too? How come you’re also in heaven? No, no, it’s impossible for you to die. I must be dreaming, definitely. Plus, he’s a top–notch crook. People say the damage done by people like him can last for generations. So,–
he can’t enter heaven.”

Chapter 165
Carlos didn’t know whether to laugh or be angry as he listened to Edith talking to herself.
Eventually, he lightly tapped her head.
She was suddenly stunned, and her body went somewhat stiff.
This familiar gesture was like a secret code between them.
“No… could it be that I am still alive in the hospital?”
“I… am I not dead?”
“Of course, you are fine. As long as I am here, you won’t die.”
Carlos narrowed his eyes and spoke in a commanding tone.
Edith was thrilled by his response and hugged him tightly, despite her pain.
“I am still alive! I thought I would never see you again!”
Even though this girl was strong, at this moment she felt overwhelmed and cried like a child. After all, she just experienced life
and death situation.
Her cries made Carlos‘ heart ached terribly.
Holding her body felt so real. The thought of arriving too late and replaceing her dead, or with a paralyzed arm, was unbearable.
He did not want to see either of these outcomes.
“Thank goodness she was okay, thank goodness.” He thought to himself.
He was extremely glad that God was so kind to him.
He patted her head and comforted her gently in a soothing voice.
After crying for a while, Edith felt aches all over her body. There were bruises on her arms, and it was so painful.
She looked at Carlos with teary eyes, looking very pitiful.
“Do you know who did this to me? They locked me in the morgue, surrounded by corpses. Do you know how scared I was? I thought I was going to die.”
She had no idea that her life was truly in danger, and it was not just a false alarm.
If he had come any later, she might really have gone to heaven.
It was a matter of life and death, and she couldn’t afford to not care.
“Leave it to me, I’ll take care of it.”
He didn’t want her to know that the real culprits were not being punished. However, he would make it up to her with everything he had.
He is willing to give everything he has, even if she wants the stars in the sky.
Upon hearing his words, Edith naturally believed him.
She believed that the bad guys would be caught and punished. She hoped to get her justice.
After dealing with the matter, she instinctively touched her flat belly and pitifully said, “I’m so hungry.”
She only drank a glass of juice in the morning and a few hours had passed since then.
After the shock, it was easier for her to get hungry. Now she was extremely weak due to hunger.
As soon as she finished speaking, her stomach growled in response.
The ward was very quiet, so the sound was very loud.
Chapter 165
Edith felt embarrassed in an instant, while Sam beside her laughed carelessly.
When Carlos heard this, he froze for a moment.
The thing that surprised him was after almost dying, she was still thinking about food.
It seemed that she was desperate to eat something to satisfy her hunger.
“Are you still thinking of food at a time like this?”
He tapped her head and said in an annoyed tone.
“I’m afraid that if I don’t eat something now, I’ll die of starvation instead of freezing or scaring to death!” She said confidently. For her, her action was completely logical.
He couldn’t help but tease her, “Edith, is your stomach a bottomless pit? Why do you always want to eat?”
Hearing this, Edith felt very embarrassed.
“Am I being really that dramatic?” She thought to herself.
“Even ancient people knew that in a battle, the army’s food and supplies are crucial. Even babies in the womb know that pregnant women should store milk. So eating is just a normal thing! Anyway, I’m hungry, give me something to eat.”
She pouted and looked at Carlos with a pitiful expression.
Her eyes were watery and full of distress, like a pitiful young animal. She was making it hard for him to refuse.
He sighed helplessly and said, “Fine, I’ll get you food.”
When Edith heard this, her eyes lit up with joy. As if she had forgotten about the life–and–death situation she had just experienced.
After recovering from the shock, Edith felt like she could run wild if her arm hadn’t been numb.
However, she had to sit on the bed waiting for the food to be served to her.
For Carlos, he felt like he was raising a pet cat that was waiting for him to feed it.
He said helplessly, “Open.”
Before he could say the word “mouth“, she had already opened her mouth wide. She was not in need of any instructions.
