Chapter 177

When Natalie heard the door shut behind her, her tears instantly streamed down.

Natalie bit the quilt hard to prevent herself from crying out loud.

Edward had no idea at all. The reason that Carlos could not bear to see Natalie suffer was not love but sympathy.

Carlos couldn’t stand his ex–girlfriend being wronged by the man who had replaced him.

Natalie bowled inwardly, “Since Edward has put in so much effort to make me fall in love with someone else and choose to betray Carlos, why is he torturing me this way now?

Edward, I tried to trust you several times and to live a peaceful life with you.

But… why did you throw me down from paradise and put me in so much pain?”

Tears of grievance rolled down Natalie’s cheeks.

Outside, the iron–blooded serviceman had no idea how to remedy the situation and get his beloved woman to come back to him.

Edward wished to open the door, but his big hand stopped short on the door handle. He had no strength to open the door.

In the end, Edward’s hand hung dejectedly.

It was already 12 o’clock at night when Carlos sent Edith back to the villa. It was very late.

Carlos was in a bad mood because of what had happened tonight.

Seeing that Carlos prepared to leave, Edith felt her heart abruptly soften for some reason. She couldn’t help but say, “Why don’t you…stay?”

“Stay and sleep with you?” Carlos cocked his eyebrow and asked.

Hearing this, Edith rolled her eyes and said, “In your dreams! You have to sleep on the floor. Will you?”

Hearing this, Carlos couldn’t help but curl his lips into a smirk.

“Poor me! My ex–girlfriend has been lured away, and my current wife wouldn’t share the bed with me!” Carlos exclaimed in his head.

Shrugging with an innocent face, Carlos said, “Well, for the sake of your ardent invitation, I’ll reluctantly accept it.”

In the end, Carlos dossed down on the floor beside Edith’s bed.

The room was pitch–black.

“Carlos…” Edith called softly.

“Yes,” Carlos answered.

“Why did you give up on your relationship with Miss Huffam? Did something happen?” asked Edith.

“Five years ago, someone threatened me with Natalie’s life, so I couldn’t say no. At that time, only Edward Jones could save her. Edward and I made a five–year pact, agreeing that in the following five years, Natalie would be Edward’s woman, and no matter what happened, I shall not interfere. I could only agree with that. Edward then risked his life and rescued Natalie. After that, he and Natalie disappeared. Now, five years has passed, and he’s back,”

Carlos recounted.

“Why did you two set five years as the term of the pact?” inquired Edith.

“It’s probably because Edward wanted me to experience heart–wrenching pain. During the five years, he must have done everything a couple would do with Natalie. Then, he would ask me if I’d still…”

Hearing this, Edith couldn’t help being curious and interrupted Carlos by saying, “Carlos, do you want still Natalie back or not?”

“To be honest, had I not been sure who Natalie truly loved, I wouldn’t have allowed myself to fall in love with you. Had not been sure if Edward could give her happiness, I would have brought her back into my life. It’s just that she and I wouldn’t be lovers anymore. I would see her like a sister. Even now, if Edward let me have Natalie back, I’ll still say yes. Are you willing to believe me that I’ll handle this past relationship properly?” Carlos remarked.

Edith fell silent. She wondered if she could trust that Carlos would not rekindle his love for Natalie.

A wave of anxiety hit Edith.

In the end, Edith replied weakly, “Actually, I’m very worried… Even if reason tells me that I should choose to believe in you, my heart is still very uneasy. Carlos… I’m torn. You are a person of natural manner, and you have a clear distinction between love and hate. I can see that Miss Huffam still means a lot to you. If she hadn’t fallen in love with Edward, you wouldn’t have chosen to let go of her, would you?

“Since you are still willing to have Natalie back despite knowing what has happened between them during these five years, it shows that you are a loyal lover. Your decisive decision to let go of her proves that you respect your woman’s choice. You draw a clear line between love and hate, and you will never be in a shady relationship with your former lover. But… I am very sensitive. I still can’t help but feel concerned…” said Edith.

When Carlos heard Edith’s inner thoughts, he could not help feeling relieved.

Chapter 177

Carlos knew that If Edith hadn’t trusted him completely, she probably wouldn’t have said that.

It was already a great achievement for this little girl to trust Carlos without reserve.

In the darkness, Carlos jeered and said, “I’ll make you rest assured.”

“Well, I also believe that you can make that happen. Carlos, go to sleep now,” Edith said with a faint smile on her face.

In truth, Edith still had a lot of questions to ask, but she didn’t.

Edith wanted to know who on earth had threatened Carlos five years ago..

What would Carlos give up if he saved Natalie?

Also, why could Edward risk his life to save Natalie but not Carlos?

The incident five years ago was definitely not something that could be summarized with a few words.

Something must have happened.

However, Edith could easily tell that Carlos did not want her to know too much.

Edith was also smart enough not to ask.

Edith might appear to be gullible, but in fact, she knew everything that was going on.

Staring at the ceiling, Edith couldn’t fall asleep.

Edith had learned too much information tonight. Her imagination was running out of her control.

At last, Edith gave up trying to sleep and called out Carlos‘ name. However, Carlos didn’t react at all. It seemed that he had fallen asleep.

Edith lay on the edge of the bed and looked at the man on the floor.

Edith’s eyes had completely adapted to the darkness, so she could vaguely see Carlos‘ profile.

Carlos‘ facial features were exquisite and distinct, as if they had been carefully carved by God. He had handsome eyebrows, bright eyes, a straight nose, and sexy lips.

“How could a man be so good–looking?” Edith wondered.

With such a handsome appearance and an extraordinary vibe, Carlos looked like a king in heaven, born to be high and mighty.

For some unexplainable reason, Edith couldn’t help reaching out her fingers to touch Carlos‘ face.

Edith quietly stretched out her hand and finally carefully placed it on Carlos‘ eyebrow.

After a long while, Carlos still didn’t move. Edit involuntarily got gleeful.

“Never knew that Carlos is such a heavy sleeper. He sleeps like a log!” Edith commented inwardly.

Gradually, Edith grew bolder.

Edith’s fingers moved down along Carlos‘ brow and lightly touched his eyelashes and the bridge of his nose, and finally prepared to land on his lips. Unexpectedly, the man in the darkness suddenly moved!

Carlos stretched out his big hand, rudely grabbed Edith’s wrist, and pulled her toward the floor with a light jerk.

Edith rolled across the floor before finally landing on the quilt and into Carlos‘ arms.

Carlos was wearing pajamás with a wide neckline. When Edith landed, her little hands happened to fall on Carlos‘ chest.

Edith quickly withdrew her hand as if she had had an electric shock.

Just as Edith made to escape, she found that she was restricted by Carlos.

“What now? You stayed up coveting my beauty. How dare you run away after making a pass on me?” Carlos demanded.

Edith’s eyes widened as she yelled, “You knew all along? Then why didn’t you answer me when I called you?”

“If I answered you, wouldn’t I have missed a good show? It turns out that you covet my beauty so much that you want to have me while I’m sleeping. don’t you?” asked Carlos.

“No not at all!” Edith denied.

“Then why did you trace your finger along my face?” Carlos teased.

Even though there was no light, Carlos could guess that Edith’s cheeks must be scarlet out of shame and anger at the moment.
