Chapter 71
Briana didn’t know how much of what she had just said Briana had heard. If she had heard Maxim defending Kiley, she would have been very upset.
“Briana, how did you come?”
Briana snapped back to reality, mustering a smile, she crouched down and picked up the phone from the ground, handing it to Norma.
“Grandma, you left your phone in my room. I’m coming to bring it to you.”
Norma took the phone and cautiously asked, “How long have you been here?”
“I just arrived, since the phone had already been delivered, I decided to go back first.”
After finishing speaking, without giving Norma a chance to speak, he turned around and left directly.
Seeing Briana’s desolate figure, Norma gave Maxim a cold look and said, “Enough, I don’t feel like talking to you anymore. Do whatever you want with Kiley!”
After Norma returned to the room, Maxim wasted no time and quickly followed Briana.
He blocked Briana at the elevator door, lowered his head and stared at her, trying to replace any trace of anger on her face.
But he was disappointed, Briana just looked at him with indifference,
her face expressionless.
“Briana, don’t you have any questions about what Grandma just said?”
Briana stared ahead expressionlessly and said calmly, “This is your own business, it has nothing to do with me, and you don’t need to explain it to me.”
The moment the voice fell, the elevator door opened.
She walked straight in and pressed the close button, just as the elevator doors were about to close, Maxim suddenly walked into the elevator.
“You didn’t want to listen, but I wanted to explain to you.”
Briana looked up at Maxim with some helplessness and said, “When I wanted to hear, you refused to explain. Now, I don’t want to hear anymore. Explaining doesn’t make any sense, does it?”
Maxim’s eyes grew cold as he stared into Briana’s eyes and said, “You really don’t care anymore?”
After a few seconds of silence, Briana spoke slowly, “The day after I first mentioned divorce to you, I went on a trip alone. When I was in the northernmost part of Rime Island, I fell into a lake. The lake was very cold, and I almost froze to death inside. If it hadn’t been for a shepherd passing by at just the right time, I might have died on Rime.
Island.”
Maxim’s pupils contracted, and the hand beside him involuntarily tightened.
“I didn’t know about this matter…”
Briana looked at him calmly and said, “I’m telling you this not to make you feel guilty or any other emotions, but to let you know that when I was on the verge of death in that lake, I realized that constantly
pursuing something that doesn’t belong to you will only make you more exhausted.”
So now I really don’t love you anymore. Whether you have any relationship with Kiley or whether you will be together, it means nothing to me. Do you understand?”
Maxim took a deep breath and said slowly, “Even so, I will not divorce you. I promised to take care of you for a lifetime, and I will not break my word.”
“There was no need, I would have been better off without you.”
Briana’s words made Maxim’s heart suddenly ache, giving him a feeling that something was gradually slipping away from him.
He looked at Briana almost stubbornly and said, “No matter what you say, I will not agree to a divorce!”
Even though both parties were suffering, he still refused to get a divorce.
He also didn’t know why he was so persistent, was it really because of his promise to Briana?
He didn’t know, and at this moment he didn’t want to think deeply. As soon as the elevator door opened, he almost fled away.
Watching his back, Briana couldn’t help but sigh.
Back in the room, Briana took a nap after finishing her meal, and she was awakened in the afternoon by the sound of her phone ringing.
