Chapter 19

Collin's POV

I swear that girl flirts more than she works. How is she going to get to know the job? If every time that I turn around, she is flirting with a different man, she has no self-control at all. I may have to tell my friends to stop coming by on Friday afternoons if this is how it is going to be with her. They can start coming around after she leaves at 5, to prevent this from happening. After the latest burst of laughter coming from her work area, I go over to see what the hell is going on out there, and I see Cora laughing with her head thrown back and her lovely slim neck showing, and I start feeling my pants get tight. I would love to mark that neck, so everyone that sees her knows that she is mine. Catherine is laughing as well, and Nicolas and Dalton are both looking at them and smiling. Everything dies down when I come out of the office, though. It was like I had busted up their little party or something, and it made me mad. I am here too. Why am I not included in this? So, I do what I do best and start correcting Cora, and then feel bad about what I said. "Dude, you need to ease up a little man, you are really hard on Cora, she already had her work for the day done already, and we were just talking to her and Catherine. You never reacted like that when we came and talked to Catherine before coming in to visit you, so what is the deal man?" Dalton asks me and it makes me angry.

"Cora is supposed to be learning how to do her job, she can't do that with you two out there hitting on her. She needs to be professional while she is here at work. She doesn't need to be flirting with you two, she is paid very well and for me to keep catching her wandering around and flirting with people is unacceptable", I tell them.

"Right, she keeps doing it. Who exactly was she flirting with again?" Nicolas asks Collin.

"Well, you two for starters, and Christian Siler today too," Collin tells us.

"Actually, you are wrong. We were flirting with Cora. She was not flirting with us. So, you were wrong, Collin, and you should go and apologize to her. I have never seen you council Catherine on anything, but that seems to be all you can do with Cora. Every week for the last 7 years, we always come over to talk at the end of the week, and we have always stopped by and messed with and flirted with Catherine, and you have never had a problem with it. I have to wonder why you all of a sudden have a problem with it now", Nicolas says to Collin.

"I don't have a problem with you guys, I have a problem with her flirting back on company time. She is at work, and she needs to be working. I heard laughing and no work going on out there for like 10 minutes. The end of next week is when Catherine will be gone, and Cora needs to be up to speed and get everything done on her own, with no help. So, you see, you two need to mind your own business and stay out of mine. I run this place and I don't know if Cora is the right fit to be my PA" Collin says to us. "Well, Collin, let me tell you, that when we got here Cora was in the restroom, and we had already spoken to Catherine. She said that they were all caught up and, unless you needed something specific, they were done for the day. That Cora is one of the brightest young women that she has had the pleasure of working with and that she is worried about her because she knows that you are being deliberately hard on Cora, but that she did everything by herself this week, and already has your schedule done for the next two weeks. It is already made out and ready to go. She only has to add the last-minute meetings in as they are scheduled. So, YOU see, Collin, she already has the job down, and in two weeks' time, which even coming from being trained by Catherine, that is a record. So, you need to count your blessings on having such an effective, efficient, and smart woman running the show out there. You have been hard on her, and you are really not putting your best foot forward, and from what I have seen, she is doing this ONLY because of Catherine. You know she has options, right? I would take her out from under you in a heartbeat if I didn't know you would be super pissed about it", Dalton tells me.

I agree, she is a beautiful and well-spoken woman, and she has a great head on her shoulders. I wouldn't be able to pay her as much per year, but I could guarantee her a stress-free work environment. I know she needs the money, so I will let her make her own choices. But, if I ever see that she really needs to make a change, and she refuses to take Jerry up on his offer, I WILL hire her right from under you, and to hell with you getting mad about it, Collin. You don't even see the jewel that you have working for you. You are like those people that come to see a house for sale and need it to be staged to see the potential because you can't see how you would decorate it yourself. Well, I can tell you now; Dalton and I see it, even if you are basically blind to it right now", Nicolas tells me. "Why does she need money, is she in trouble?" I hate that I was worried enough to ask.

"That is her business, and if she wants you to know she will tell you. It is not for us to tell. I would say if you ever take the time to speak to her, instead of assuming the worst about her, maybe you will learn something about her. She is a great person, she loves her friends and family, and she never stays upset for long. I have seen some of your old girlfriends, Collin. They made keeping a grudge an Olympic sport. You haven't given her one break except for today when you defended her against that little witch from H.R., I saw her wince when I hugged her, and I am fairly sure she is going to have a bruise tomorrow from being hit by Lyra. It could not have come at a worse time", Dalton said, and I saw Nicolas bump his arm, and I wonder what else he was going to say if Nicolas hadn't stopped him.

I am now looking back and forth between them and wondering how it only took two weeks' time and literally 25 minutes of talking to her, to take both of my best friends and make them be on her side, instead of mine. I mean speaking of being a witch, it seems like Cora has them both under her spell and they don't even realize that they are under it. I shake my head at them and then remember something.

"Where are you going to be seeing Catherine and Cora tomorrow?" I asked them.

"Um, well, Catherine said that she had a ticket to the fashion show tomorrow, and I believe that she is trying to get a ticket if she can, for Cora to go too. Nicolas and I, as well as my mom and sister, are both going tomorrow, so if Catherine can get her a ticket, we will see them both there", Dalton tells me, and Nicolas nods his head in agreement.

"I guess I will see you two there then as well. Maddie has been bothering me for months about trying to get her on to model for this designer Mateo's clothing line, and I had already told her before we broke up that I would try to help her, so I have 2 tickets and we will be going to the show as well. Maybe we can sit together", I told them.

"Uh, that will be a no, as we are already sitting with our own party, and Catherine and your mom and sister are going to be there as well, as they have tickets too. You may want to sit in the back somewhere or across from us, as I am quite sure your mom will have plenty to say about you allegedly breaking up with Maddie and then being photographed with her again. Plus, frankly, I don't like Maddie, maybe you should skip the show entirely, as I know your mom might say something to you if she sees you there with Maddie", Nicolas says to me and then looks over at Dalton, who is nodding in agreement.

I agree, I don't like Maddie, man, she is a user, and I have no time at all for her. She is just trying to raise her numbers on social media by clinging to you. I don't want to be around her, and I agree maybe you should sit across from us, maybe try to hide like on the back row, and maybe your mom won't be able to see you, and then she wouldn't cause a scene there", Dalton tells me.

"I am not scared of my mom, and I haven't taken Maddie back. I did agree to go with her to the runway show, and yes, she is probably going to try to use me being there as an opportunity to try to become one of the models for Mateo. She loves the work that Franco and his boyfriend do as well, and they are a package deal with working for Mateo. She is a beautiful woman, and I am sure if he has room in his show for her, that it will be a good thing for them both", I told them.

"Well, I heard through the grapevine that Mateo already has a bright and shining new star for his runway, and she will be there tomorrow for her first show. Personally, I cannot wait to see her as I hear she is absolutely gorgeous", Dalton says to me, and then I hear a small groan and see Nicolas pulling his leg back away from Dalton. I don't know what is going on with them, but now my interest is piqued by the gorgeous new girl working for Mateo. I got up from my chair and put on my jacket, and we all exited my office. It is 5 pm, and I am off. I can't wait to see what the new girl looks like at the show tomorrow.
