Falling For My Playboy Boss -
Chapter 41
Collins POV
I was kind of hoping that Cora would have left for the day, by the time Michael got there, but I was wrong. Michael came early, probably because he was anxious, and they ran into each other at the elevator. It was really painful to see her face when the elevator arrived on our floor for her to leave, and Michael exited quickly and almost ran right into her. I could see her tear up from my office door as I watched her stop and take a big step back to allow Michael to exit the elevator. Michael attempted to stop her on the elevator after she hit the button, but she put her hand out telling him to stop and she then hit the door close button on the elevator. I could see how upset Michael was at having hurt her, and I can only pray that this works out for him with Sadie and Reed because I have ruined his and Cora's chance, it looks like.
Nicolas and Dalton are not speaking to me now after they got to the office and Cora would only give them "yes" and "no" answers as they tried to tease her and get her to smile. It didn't work, and it has always worked before, even when I had been a complete and total jerk to her, they could always make her smile. Dalton even went to kiss the back of her hand to try to be charming, but when he bent down to do it and saw the tears in her eyes waiting to escape, he just gave her shoulder a hug and walked into my office to glare at me and he didn't say another word to me. Nicolas has, but it has all been for the business at hand, and I can tell he is angry at me as well.
When Michael arrived in my office and looked so guilty and defeated, I wanted to punch myself, as I knew that this whole thing was my fault. Every single part of it I orchestrated it and it fell on my shoulders, and the weight of it, made me feel awful to cause so many people that I love and care about to be feeling this amount of pain. I really was the a*****e everyone thought that I was.
Nicolas said, "We should go ahead and get to the car, so we can get this done". We all went to the parking garage and got in the limo. No one wanted to sit next to me, as Dalton and Nicolas entered first and sat together, and Michael had to sit next to me. I think Michael is cluing in on what I did now, and he is really mad at me too, but this seeing Sadie and meeting his son has him preoccupied. But I don't doubt that he will be coming back to me again, and he will be hashing it out with me. I could tell that they really liked each other, and in my jealousy, couldn't allow them to be happy together. I am going to be paying for this, and I am most concerned about Cora now. She was not getting better, it was getting worse, and I didn't know what to do to fix it. I just focus on looking out my window and see Shea getting on her bus to go home and again wonder what the hell she is doing with her money to not be able to drive to work? Maybe she doesn't have a driver's license? There has got to be a reason why she doesn't have a car. I looked around the Limo and realized that they had seen her too and now everyone's mouth was a thin line, and I bet all three of them knew why she had to ride the bus, but they wouldn't be telling me. They have said from the beginning that I needed to speak with her in a nice way. That if I did that, I would replace out about her and her life. I just didn't care enough to do that because I was all about replaceing Shea, and not learning anything at all about my new PA. I knew Catherine knew why too and that was why she got Cora the higher pay, well that and me having been an a*****e to her, as Catherine only said that "Cora, has earned it dealing with you and your girlfriend" when I asked why she needed an increase to $150,000, from the base salary of $140,000 for the job. But even with a nice apartment, she should still be able to afford a little car for her to drive around in. I guess I will have to break down and ask her what is up. Maybe we can talk on the plane on the way to France. Yes, that is a great idea. She will have nowhere to go to get away from me. I can talk to her and learn more about her then. I will also get her some flowers if the trip goes well. She seemed to like the Stargazer Lilies that Michael had gotten her, so I guess Monday I will make sure that she has some flowers delivered to say thank you for going on the trip with me, and I appreciate you as my PA. That was a great idea, I will start slow and then build up.
The limo stops and we all get out in front of Sadie's house. It is in a nice neighborhood with tree-lined streets and she either has a good job or lives with her parents. I didn't read the whole report. I just forwarded it to Michael for him to read and then paid the invoice for the work myself through my email, so Cora wouldn't see anything on that. I waved off the driver, as he knew that I would text him when we needed him to come back, and told him that we would need at least 30 minutes on this trip.
"Let's go guys, we can't stand on the sidewalk all day," I said and started up to the door. I ring the doorbell and wait for the door to be answered with Michael, while the other 2 are trudging up, probably angry that I had started this and disrupted so many lives with it, for no good reason at all, other than I wanted Cora for myself, like the greedy bastard that I am.
The door was answered by an older version of Sadie, who still had blonde hair, but it was greying at the temples, and it was shoulder length. She answered the door smiling until she saw Michael, and the smile left her face and she said, "I knew that this day would come" and stepped back to allow us to enter and pointed towards the living room for us to enter and be seated.
The house was well kept and clean and we heard long before we saw the child coming downstairs with heavier footsteps falling along behind them. The woman, I am assuming is Sadie's mom, stepped back into the foyer and spoke with whoever was behind the child. The child, who had no fear at all, had come into the living room with us and was looking at us all with his little head tilted like he was trying to figure out why we were there. He looks at Michael, and it seems to hit him that they look similar, as he steps closer to Michael and keeps looking at his face. The child then says, "Are you my father? You look like the man in my mom's pictures that she showed me was my father". I heard a deep gasp from Michael, and he started nodding at the little boy as the woman and what appeared to be her husband took another step into the room. Michael got down on his knees, on the floor, and held his arms out to the little boy. The little boy runs into Michaels's arms and hugs him tight. I saw tears running down Michael's face, and I am sure the little boy was crying too, and I heard his grandmother start to cry as well.
She then says, "My name is Aubrey, and this is Charles. We are Sadie's parents. Would you like something to drink? I could make some tea for you. It would be no problem at all".
"Thank you, Aubrey, no, we are good. I appreciate the offer", I told her.
"Please, have a seat. I know that Reed will probably be hugging Michael for a little while, as he had been asking for the last year where his daddy was. He is a bright little boy and he saw the other children's fathers at his playgroups and the park. When he asked about you, Sadie pulled out her pictures of you two together and showed you to him. He was happy that he looked so much like his father".
"Is Sadie here? We would like to talk to her and see if she is OK with us running a DNA test for Reed and Michael. We are almost 100% positive that they are father and son, but just to make completely sure, we wanted to see if we could do the test", Nicholas said to them.
"I am sure you will want to run a test, and if you want to you can go ahead and do it now, or do you need her to give the go-ahead for the test?" Aubrey asked us.
"I would like to keep it all above board and have Sadie allow me to do it. We should get the results back quickly after it is done. Hopefully, by this Friday. if we can get it tonight, with Sadie's ok of it" Nicolas "She will be here soon, her bus should be coming in by 610, so sometime in the next few minutes, as she will only have to walk in from the bus stop at the corner," Charles told us.
We continued to have small talk for the next ten minutes, and it was so cute to see Reed sitting next to Michael on the couch next to him, talking animatedly with him. He is totally a carbon copy of Michael. I suddenly wanted to know what my child would look like? Would he look like me? His mother? A combination of us both? Who would be the best mother for my child? I can picture without a doubt in my mind that it would be Cora. She would be the perfect mother as she is already so nurturing and caring. She already has such a big heart and a beautiful face. We would have the cutest kids. I went to think about what they would look like, and before I could picture it in my mind. I heard the door open, and we all started to stand up. I see Sadie, and she is truly a beautiful young woman, and she freezes at the door to the living room, taking in all four of us and then freezing her eyes on Michael, as Reed runs to her and said, "Mommy, look I found daddy!" with a huge smile on his face. Michael steps forward and says, "We need to talk".
