Falling For The Girl I Bullied -
Chapter 43
Kevin Stammers’ P.O.V.
“She is lucky that she doesn’t have any broken ribs or any kind of fracture in her rib cage. Whoever punched her, punched her hard with the intention of hurting her badly. Her bruises and injuries will take time to heal”, the doctor told me and Mrs Parker about Violet’s condition. She was really in bad shape but it was a relief that she didn’t have any broken bones or any kind of serious injury. “What about Ethan?” Mrs Parker asked immediately in a worried tone. The doctor took a deep breath and smiled a little. “The boy is really tough and it’s a relief that he also doesn’t have any serious injuries. He tried to shield the girl from some fatal blows but she also tried to save him a few times. He will be back on his feet in a few days”, the doctor informed us and I pursed my lips into a thin line worriedly.
“He has a match this Saturday. He is a volleyball player”, I said to the doctor in a worried tone. “I think, he will manage to play”, the doctor said in a confident tone, and I breathed in relief. Andrew was already injured and the absence of Ethan could affect the game of other players. “You are still worried about your match, Mr Stammers?” Mrs Parker scolded me angrily and I looked at her apologetically. She huffed and then looked at the doctor again. “Do they need to stay in the hospital tonight?” she asked him in a concerned tone. “I think it will be good for them if they stay here tonight. The girl needs to be under observation”, the doctor told us truthfully. “Then put both of them in the same room so that we can take care of both of them at the same time”, she requested the doctor and then stood up from the chair where we were sitting inside the doctor’s room.
I also stood up and thanked the doctor before heading out of the room with her. “I don’t know what’s really going on in the school. It shouldn’t have happened in the first place”, she muttered angrily. I didn’t say anything as I also knew what she was saying was true. “They even have the audacity of attacking a girl inside the school? Are the school authorities sleeping?” she questioned me angrily while walking with me towards the elevator. Kyle with the rest of the boys was still waiting for us in the waiting room outside the emergency room. “I am really sorry, Mrs Parker. This shouldn’t have happened in the first place, not with a girl”, I apologized to her and she just scoffed angrily.
“I am glad that they are not badly hurt but the worst could happen at that time. I know my son. He never involved himself in a fight without any valid reason. I want an explanation of this incident in writing from school. I am not going to leave this”, she asked me in a stern tone. “I will give you the written explanation on the school’s behalf, Mrs Parker”, I tried to ensure her in a gentle tone. “Not only for Ethan… but for that girl too”, she immediately spoke again in a stern tone. I was happy to see her concern for Violet because she was the first person who showed her concern for Violet. Now I got it from whom Ethan had taken his caring attitude. He inherited it from his mother.
We reached the boys inside the waiting room and Kyle immediately ran towards us, followed by the other boys. “How are they?” he immediately asked Mrs Parker in a worried tone. “They are alright but they have to stay in the hospital tonight”, she told him in a calm tone. Kyle took a deep breath and ran his fingers through his hair. “Mrs Stone is still with Violet and Ethan, Kyle. They don’t have any serious injury but they need to stay under observation tonight”, I told him trying to put him on ease. Kyle looked at his friends before looking back at me. “I think you should inform her guardian too, Mr Stammers. Her neighbours will inform them if she doesn’t go back to her home”, he said to me in a calm tone. I took a deep breath before replying to him.
“I know, Kyle, and I am going to inform them after finishing the procedure of her admission”, I told him and he nodded in response. “I want to stay with Ethan tonight, aunt”, he requested Mrs Parker. She smiled and cupped his face. “Both of them will stay in the same room. I don’t want to leave that girl alone here. The staff will take care of them, son. You don’t need to stay here”, she spoke to her in a gentle tone. He immediately shook his head furiously. “No… I can’t leave him alone here. I will stay with him”, he refused to leave Ethan in a stern voice. Mrs Parker sighed helplessly this time. “He is right, aunt. We can’t leave Ethan and Violet alone here. We can take better care of them than nurses here”, Noah came forward and supported Kyle’s decision to stay with them.
“I am going to finish the admission procedure”, I informed Mrs Parker and she only nodded in response. I walked back to the emergency room while dialling Mrs Stone’s number. She was with Violet the whole time. “How is she?” I asked her in a gentle tone when she picked up the call. “She is badly shaken up, Kevin. The doctor told me that she doesn’t have any broken bones but her injuries are still serious. We have to do something for her this time, Kevin, or else it could be worst in the future”, she said to me in a worried tone. She was speaking in a low tone. It meant that Violet was still awake. “I know, Bethany, and trust me, I am not going to leave this matter just like that. We promised Violet that no harm will come to her and we failed miserably”, I paused and took a deep breath. “They are staying here tonight. I am going to finish their admission procedure. After that, you can go back. Ethan’s mother has made arrangements for both of them. Kyle and I think Noah will stay with them tonight”, I informed her and stopped near the nursing station.
“I am here to complete the admission procedure for Ethan Parker and Violet Carter”, I gently informed the nurse present there. “O yes… please fill these forms and make the payment”, she gave me two forms while passing a gentle smile to me. “Thanks”, I thanked her and looked at the admission forms. “Can you do me a favour, Bethany?” I asked Bethany who was still on call with me while filling up the form. “What?” she asked me immediately. “Please call Violet’s guardian and informed them the incident”, I requested her. I heard her taking a deep breath. “I will do this”, she told me and then we both hung up. After finishing the admission procedure, I made payments for both Ethan and Violet.
I decided to call Marcus and ask him to meet me tonight. Things were getting out of hand now and I needed to inform him about Sia and her doings in the school. He was my best friend but I didn’t tell him anything about Sia till today. He loved his daughter very much but he was also strict about discipline and ethics. I was sure that he was unaware of what Sia was doing in school and in her personal life. David was Sia’s new boyfriend and I was sure that David attacked Violet only to please Sia. I didn’t know why Sia hated Violet so much but I couldn’t let Sia hurt Violet again.
I dialled Marcus’ number when I reached a deserted area at the corner of the corridor. “Hey, Kevin… how are you?” he immediately greeted me in a cheerful tone. “I am fine, Marcus”, I told him in a light tone. “I want to meet you tonight in the club. I have something to tell you”, I said to him in a light tone again. “Is everything okay?” he asked me immediately in a concerned tone. I took a deep breath and ran my fingers through my hair. “Something happened in the school today and….. I think… Sia is involved in this matter”, I didn’t want to take Sia’s name but I had no option but to tell him. There was silence for a while on his side. I chewed my lower l*p nervously. “Let’s meet and then talk, Kevin”, he spoke in a serious tone after a while. “I will wait for you in the club at the same time”, I answered him and then we both hung up.
I took a deep breath and just looked around blankly. I stayed there for a while thinking about all the things that happened in the last two years at the school. It was not the first time that I had witnessed bullying in the school but this was an extreme case. The school was an elite school and every student belonged to a rich family. We had some poor students too who entered the school through scholarships. All the teachers knew about these students being bullied by the rich students but we interfered rarely because none of us wanted to lose our jobs. I loved my work too, but I was also famous for my interference in these activities. Marcus asked me to keep an eye on Sia when she got admission to this school. I promised him that I would take care of Sia but soon I realized that she was already spoiled and she knew how to use her father’s influence to her own advantage.
“Kevin”, I looked up and saw Bethany looking at me with concern. I came out of my stance and took a deep breath. “Why are you here?” I asked her in a gentle tone and looked around once again. “They shifted both of them to the room and Ethan’s mother and other boys are there. I called you but you didn’t pick up the call. I then searched for you and found you standing here completely drowned in your thoughts. Is everything okay?” she asked me in concern in the end. I then realized that I was so drowned in my thoughts that I didn’t realize that my phone was ringing in my hands. “Uhhhh… I am sorry… I was just”, I paused after apologizing because I really didn’t know what to say right now. She took a deep breath and then put her hand on my hand with the phone. “Don’t worry… everything will be okay”, she comforted me and I just sighed helplessly.
