Cleo's POV

"I'm sorry I think I heard you wrong. I thought I heard you say, 'I kissed Lucille' but I couldn't have heard that because I know my mate wouldn't do that to me." Roman's eyes refused to meet my own only confirming my bastard father correct. "Get out. I can't look at you right now." Turning away from him I laid painfully on my side. I had never wanted to meet him originally and in this second, I hated myself for giving into the mate bond to begin with. "You have to understand that you had been gone for weeks..."

"Oh well that's ok then." Turning back to face him I could feel my face heating from the anger rising within me.

"I don't mean it like that Cleo. You were in the underworld for weeks and I had no clues whatsoever as to whether you were dead or alive. I needed you back and Lucille had a way of getting me to you. Yes, there was a price to pay, and yes, I kissed her but not because I wanted to. I did it because it was the only way she would open the portal. When I got there and saw you, fear of Hades taking you from me, it crippled me Cleo. In that moment I thought I had made the right decision." Taking my hand in his he placed it over his chest. I could feel how fast his heart was beating as he made his case. "I should have known it was a set up but all I could think about was getting you back and holding you in my arms again. I know you're angry, I know I've hurt you and I know you don't trust me at this moment, but if I had to do it again just to save you I would! Without you Cleo I have nothing. I am nothing."

"Why would she send you there?" Using my free hand, I wiped away the tears that had begun to fall. He was right I didn't trust him but was he really in the wrong.

"I don't think Hades ever intended to kill the pup. At least not anytime soon. According to Johnathan, he needs her to shift so he can strip her of her power. A man like him Cleo isn't going to pass the title of King or Queen down. Not when he will lose his hold over the hellfire."

"Elder Johnathan? As in the one that told you to kill me. I don't want him involved Roman! And what is so important about hellfire?"

"The same one yes and Cleo we don't have a choice. You saw the scars my mother held. I won't allow that to happen to you or anyone else in this family. While I don't trust him at the moment, I know he won't be quick to betray me. Not with so much at risk. As for the importance of hellfire, from what I've found out it's the one and only thing that can destroy a god. Hades comes from a special bloodline. He may not have been born into royalty but it has always been in his blood just as it has been both mine and yours. I don't know all the details but one of your ancestors lost their crown and Hades won it back. If he then passed that throne to you, he also loses the ability to control the hellfire. There is no way on this earth that he is going to give up the one and only thing that can kill him." My head began to hurt from the overload of information.

"Roman I'm not going to forgive you for kissing that skank but as much as I hate to admit it I probably would have done the same thing. However, it doesn't make it right. I need to focus everything I have on getting our daughter back." Shaking my hand free of Roman's, I wiped them both over my face as Roman pulled me to his chest in a comforting embrace. I hadn't realised how much I needed it until then.

Never in my dreams had I thought Hades would get his hands on my daughter. I always thought we would protect her by ridding him from this an every other world before she was born. When we replace him, he will die but one thing will be different. Not only will he no longer exist in this world, but he will be unable to exist in any world.

Twenty-four hours and I would be allowed to leave the hospital. This should be a moment full of love and joy but instead I felt empty. I didn't feel hate, I didn't feel jealousy seeing the other new pups as they passed my room, and I didn't feel upset. Just empty.

Roman held my hand in my lap as we sat and talked. So much had happened in the weeks I was away, but to hear Daphne and Eric were fully mated left me feeling uneasy.

Suddenly my vision blurred just as the sound of Roman's voice faded away, however I wasn't met with silence. The shrill sound of a new-born's cry attacked my ear drums as a picture formed before me. Some soon to be dead bitch was rocking my daughter as she called her names because she wouldn't stop crying. I didn't see my pup, but I knew it was her. I could feel it in my bones. My mum always told us that you would always know if it was your pup, and she was right. The woman finally settled my newborn before placing her in a Moses basket on a rocking stand. As she turned to face someone that came in behind her my breathe hitched in my throat. Her hair matched Hades in both colour and curl but while her eyes were completely different I knew this was the other daughter he mentioned.

I listened as they spoke, both of them trying to coax my pup into shifting only nothing was working. Again, Hades would curse the Moon Goddess blaming her as if she were the reason things weren't working. His hatred for her bought what he had said rushing back barrelling into me like a god damn tidal wave. This demon bitch, my half-sister had been masquerading under the disguise of someone else the entire time. Someone that was now ruling beside a young and unexperienced Alpha.

"Cleo..." Hearing Roman shout my name the scene playing before vanished replaced with the inside of hospital room. The way his hands held my face and the look in his eyes was one nobody could fake. He was worried something was happening and feared he would lose me.

"Daphne?"

"No... I have another one. A half-sister apparently. They are trying to get our pup to shift. We have to get back now there's something I have to tell everyone!" "Tell them what Cleo?"

"My half-sister has been here all along only nobody has realised."

"Who?" Adrenaline coursed through me as I spoke her name. A feral and terrifying growl leaving Roman as he turned and ran from the hospital.
