Cleo's POV

Incinerating the flesh from the council members and the guard until they were nothing more than a pile of ash did nothing to stir feelings within me. Though when Roman told me he loved me, I felt a stir. A stir that I couldn't let happen, not yet, and perhaps not at all.

The power I possessed, the fear I spread whenever I used it, had excitement bubbling inside me. I wanted it all; I wanted access to every aspect the darkness had to offer. It was as if a part of me had been asleep for far too long and had now awoken, ready to have its turn.

Taking Roman's hand, I felt the flames come forward without a word leaving my lips. As time passed, it was as if they knew when I would want them and began acting independently. The blue flames surrounded us, their painless heat warming my now constantly cold body before dying out, revealing a new location.

'A Queen could get used to such a mode of transportation.' Freya was impressed with how easily the use of hellfire had become. Using it was as easy breathing.

"Come on." Roman pulled on my hand in a bid to get me to follow him. An act I found disrespectful with the status I now held. Forcing my hand from his, Roman stopped and turned to face me. "Cleo, we have to hurry." "Do we? They know I will come here; they are banking on it. If I allow you to lead me blindly into that pack house, I'll be a target."

"What the hell is going on with you? Cleo, the council will be here shortly, so we must inform my fathers and prepare."

"Yes, Axel, him I have a score to settle with. Him, I will see." Clicking my fingers, Axel appeared surrounded by beautiful blue flames. The way they danced to my every notion, following an order I hadn't even given, it was refreshing. "Roman, how are you... Cleo! What have you done?" The smile that graced my face as fear spread over his was just the beginning. He was just like the council. He drugged me and attempted to take what was mine for his own selfish needs. "Cleo, release him." Roman stood between us, his eyes fixed on his father. I could feel his confusion through our bond, but I couldn't take notice.

"I'll release you his body if anything remains after what I'm going to do to him." Taking small strides towards where Axel stood, Roman stepped further into my path. Looking up at him, I placed my hands on his chest before pushing him full force away. Stepping through the flames that held Axel, I placed my hand on his chest and let Freya do what she needed.

As I watched my hand partially shift, Freya's long, sharp claws dug into Axel tearing his shirt and splitting his skin. Taking a deep breath, together Freya and I hummed a tune I had somehow heard before but couldn't place the when and where. As we hummed, Axel began to fight against my grip. Freya hadn't told me, but I knew what she intended to do, and by the looks of it, so did he. She wished to strip him of the fire element once and for all making him solely human. It was then that once he died, he would never be reunited with his mates. For a wolf, it would be a fate far worse than death.

Out of nowhere, Roman was standing beside me, his hand over Freya's paw as he used every ounce of strength he had to force us off of his father. Had we not been mated, he wouldn't have been able to do what he did. He wouldn't have drawn his power from us, allowing him into my ring of fire. Only now did I realise just how much of a weakness to me he was. "CLEO, STOP! I know why you're doing this, but I can't allow you to continue. Your hurting people that don't deserve it."

"I will destroy the council. Don't worry about that, but he will die alongside them. He has been against me from the very beginning, against US!"

"It doesn't give you the right to do this. No matter what he has done, he is still my father and a part of our daughter's life." Roman placed his hands on either side of my face. The closeness of him, his scent, and the sound of his frantic heartbeat had me returning to my senses. It was almost as if something had been fogging my mind and diverting all my decision-making in one direction. That being the most destructive.

"I don't know what came over me. Axel... I'm sorry. What's happening to me?"

"It's the hellfire controlling you. Their dark ways took hold the moment you offered your soul to the brotherhood. You're born from hellfire Cleo; you're not meant to obtain its entirety. It wasn't your destiny." "The brotherhood?"

"They're the demonic version of our council. No matter who rules the underworld, they have a say. However, they are rumoured to be less trustworthy than our elders. Their magic twists things in the worst way. They may be taking advantage of you by forcing the goodness to go bad. Only your body is trying to resist."

"What are you saying?"

"It can't be; I saw it leave me when they embedded their dagger in my chest."

"No, you didn't; you witnessed their blade destroying your soul's protection. Those born to special bloodlines have what we call a safety net. In Cleo's case, the goodness surrounding her soul stopped the darkness within her from winning before now. While pregnant, we got to witness firsthand the evil within. Now it's gone, and she's claimed her rule over the underworld that evil is trying to overthrow her. By doing that, it's killing off the good within Cleo." "Completely confused, but how do we reverse it?"

"We don't. It's never been reversed; if it has, I've never found any recordings. Her only chance of regaining control is to remove the hellfire or, at the very least, seal it away. Athena once mentioned binding her power...." "NO!" With a wave of my arm, I flung them out of the circle my flames created.

I was sick of everyone trying to control me, making my decisions for me, and, worst of all, trying to take what was mine. If Axel thought this wasn't my destiny, it would mean it belonged to my pup. I had already begun walking the dark path and wasn't about to allow her the same. I wanted so much more for her than this.

I would stick to my plan, destroy the council and its followers, and protect my family, even if that meant using this power to its max and killing myself, ridding the darkness once and for all.
