Feral Wolf -
Chapter 4
Calliope
I knocked on his bedroom door to see if he was awake but Brontes didn’t answer me. When I heard no answer, I perked up my ears and heard a slow and steady heart beat on the other side of the room. He must still be asleep. I opened the door slightly to peek in and saw him sleeping on his side on the floor, his head propped with his arm as a pillow.
I opened the door completely as a frown crept on my face. Why was he sleeping on the floor when he had a bed? I walked over and kneeled next to him and my frown lines softened. He was truly a breathtakingly handsome male. My hand moved to sweep away his dark hair that was covering his face. He shifted in his sleep, closer to my hand. I froze, afraid he would wake up, and instead he surprised me. He pulled on my hand with his and clutched it close to his chest, mumbling in his sleep. I let out a soft chuckle.
He was a big and burly male, but right now he looked like a child. Something in my heart twitched and I stiffened at the unfamiliar feeling. My wolf didn’t seem to mind it though, because she didn’t come alert like I did. Instead, she was basking in the view of her mate.
He is truly beautiful, isn’t he? she asked.
He is. I replied back to my wolf.
I continued to look at him for a bit longer before I slowly removed my hand from his grasp; I stood quietly, and walked over to his bed and grabbed one of his pillows and a blanket. I slipped the pillow under his head and then I pulled the blanket over him.
After another look at him, I stood up and walked to my father’s office to speak with him regarding last night’s events.
His office was not far from my bedroom. Again, all Alphas and strict family members rooms are on the top floor—including all our offices. His was across from mine. I walked down the large hallway and knocked on his door.
“Come in.” He said from the other side.
I opened the door and moved to sit down in the seat opposite of him. He smiled at me fondly, dropped the piece of paper he was reading, and looked up at me.
“So what happened?”
“We handled everything very well. Our black eagles warriors shot down all the snipers before we infiltrated their camp. The hunters were weak. They didn’t even notice we were in their camp. It was like taking candy from a child. I killed the leader after he begged for his life.” I explained.
“Are you sure he is dead?” My father asked.
I turned to look at him, “Do you doubt me? I would never leave loose ends, Father. I made Alecto, my trusted Gamma, stay with him until he was dead. His body should be ashes by now.”
He grinned, “I would never doubt you, my child. I know you are more than competent as an Alpha but you and I know that it wasn’t easy for you.”
“I know, Father. I have the scars to prove it.” I sighed.
When I became Alpha, rogues heard of my new position and one by one they all came onto my territory to challenge me. Rogues are known to be reckless and ruthless. They fight unfairly. I fought and beat many that came onto my land. When word spread that I was being competed against for the Alpha title, another well known rogue came onto my land. His challenge couldn’t be declined but he was well known for being the most ruthless of them all. He fought his battle like a coward.
We fought against each other for hours, but he was getting weary and he wanted the title badly. He used a silver knife and slashed me across my stomach. I was bleeding profusely and was losing consciousness quickly. My pack was in rage when they saw what had happened. He had cheated in challenging an Alpha. It was the lowest and dirtiest a wolf can go.
He didn’t realize this stops the rule for all pack members not to interfere when their Alpha was being challenged. He opened the door for my pack warriors and they were seeing red, out for blood for their Alpha.
He died right after in the hands of my pack members. I enforced border patrol and became a little merciless when rogues crossed my land. Other Alphas stood around listening and when they heard the many challenges I had defeated, their opinions of me changed. Things quieted down and rogues stopped coming onto our land.
“It went well that is all that matters.” I said quietly and stood up.
“You did well.” He said. “I am proud of yo-”
A loud feral growl came from downstairs. My heartbeat quickened as I recognize that growl. My eyes widened as I looked at my father. Immediately, my father and I spun on our feet and ran out the door. I flew down the three flights of stairs to our main floor, silently cursing at how long it was taking me to get down there.
When I reached the floor I saw my mate fully shifted, his large black wolf standing tall in the middle of the room. His red eyes were glaring at the pack members in the room.
“Keep your eyes down.” I ordered to everyone and immediately they all complied. They didn’t know what to do because he was their leader’s mate but he was also unstable. They couldn’t attack him without repercussion. They were glad, though, when they saw me. The had looks of relief in their eyes as they all looked down as a sign of being no threat to my feral mate.
I slowly walked up to Brontes’ large wolf. He was a lot bigger than me, which surprised me, because only wolves who are powerful can have a large form like his.
“Be careful, Callie.” My dad said quietly, from behind me.
My mate whipped his head around to look behind him and saw my dad. I placed my hand gently on his soft fur. Immediately, my touch stopped the growl that was vibrating through his body, directed at my father. His blood red eyes turned to look at me.
“Hey, it’s ok. You’re fine.” I said gently and then placed my other hand on his snout. His growls turned into purring as he rubbed his snout in my hand. A smile came onto my face as I saw that his wolf recognized me as who I was.
“You’re beautiful.” I continued softly. “You need to shift, Brontes. You can’t be in wolf form in here.”
His eyes were flickering again. I pulled his face down to mine so that he was eye level. “Shift, Brontes.”
I heard his wolf huff before shifting in front of me, completely naked. A distinctive unheard of growl came out from the back of my throat in warning and immediately the females in the room diverted their eyes in fear. My eyes widened at my possessiveness. Brontes looked up at me with curiosity as he accepted a pair of shorts from a male wolf that came scurrying up to us.
“What has you all crazy, Brontes?” I asked.
“I didn’t recognize where I was...I didn’t know.” He muttered. “I forgot until I saw you.”
I softened at his words. I went to grab his hand.
“You’re ok. I’m sorry I left without waiting for you. I didn’t think you would be awake so soon.” I replied honestly. “Are you hungry?”
“Alright everyone, show’s over.” My father said from behind us and everyone breathed a sigh of relief before dispersing.
