Chapter 78

“I really don’t know where he is at the moment,” Curtis says, fully dressed and leaning against the couch where Amanda is sitting opposite Leila.

Leila frowns. It isn’t the reply she is expecting.

“I don’t understand. He asked you to come here but you don t know where he is?”

“Yeah, he spoke to pops and they were gonna call Alpha Tatum to sort the whole shit out but then he got a call and just bailed. We haven’t heard from or seen him since then.” Curtis replies.

He only just properly introduced himself to Leila as the second son of Kelvin’s aunt who is married to the Alpha of the Death Claw pack. Leila had hoped that Curtis would be able to help her replace Kelvin but it turned out he doesn’t know where he is.

“And you don’t know why he chose to leave? Didn’t he like, say anything at all?” Leila asks with a sombre look in her eyes.

“Nope,” Curtis replied, shaking his head.

Leila looks away from him and stares at her feet with a sullen gaze. At a time like this, Kelvin is the one person she can count on and he is nowhere to be found.

There has never been a time in her life when she needed him that he did not come through for her even to the point of risking his own life.

The fire was not the first near death incident Kelvin saved her from. In fact, the first day they met, Kelvin had probably saved her life.

She had just gone through another round of bullying from Carmela, Edna and Philomena, a little while after Carmela got the phoenix mark.

An omega had mistakenly bumped into Carmela and spilled a drink on her and even though the lady who was much older than them apologised, Carmela would not have it. They got a bat and took turns beating on the omega but Leila protested against it and Carmela castigated her.

It was not the first nor the second time Carmela was abusing her power and crossing a moral ground and she was getting fed up with it.

Absentmindedly going home in tears after being labelled as weak, useless and a traitor, Leila almost walked into an oncoming motorcycle when the a nerdy boy with glasses pushed her away, taking the hit himself but luckily for him, his backpack took the brunt of the impact.

They remained friends since that day and were inseparable for years and Leila found the brother she never had.

“I really need to replace him, he’s the only one that can help me now with-” she pauses, wondering if she can trust Curtis as well.

He did risk his life to save her and he is Kelvin’s cousin but she is wary, she has to be careful at this point.

“Whatever it is you want Kelvin’s help with, I’m sure I can help you. You can trust me,” Curtis says, pushing away from the couch and sitting on the table directly opposite Leila.

“I may have come here under the guise of the werewolf games but like I said, I’m only here because he asked me to look after you for him. If there’s one person I can give my life for, it’s that man. So just as you have a friend in him, be rest assured, you have a friend in me.”

Leila looks up at Curtis’ blue eyes and they remind her of Kelvin’s so much.

She realises she really does miss Kelvin.

He’s always been her breath of fresh air.

Throughout the whole ordeal with Tatum and Carmela, he stood by her.

That day in the dungeons with Clayton, once she could not mindlink Tatum thinking he sent Clayton, Kelvin was the one person that came to mind. It still remains a mystery to her on how he found her.

She really needs him now.

“It’s not so easy, what I want to do,” Leila replies. “He’s the only one who has the resources and network to snoop into the pack files without alarming anyone. I’m afraid there’s not much we can do without him.”

“Leila….never say never, if Kelvin sent Curtis over, he must be capable,” Amanda replies, before shooting Kelvin a straight gaze. “You’re capable, right?”

“I do possess a unique set of skills, tracking is my expertise, I may be able to replace him or someone who has at least seen him recently” Curtis replies.

Amanda murmurs something inaudible and Leila takes a deep breath.

“Two years ago, before I lost my wolf, I had caught the scent of my mate, it was strong, really strong and I was going to go after it but I was with Carmela and she insisted I finish my makeup so I would look extra beautiful for him. I could barely sit still with the emotions going through me but I managed. Right as I was about to leave, the rogue appeared. “His face was masked but I cannot forget the tattoo of the snake he had on his forearm. Coincidentally, the same tattoo was on the man who attacked us at the summit and both times, he conveniently struck Carmela on the same spot. Only that, two years ago, nothing really happened to Carmela, she doesn’t have a scar from that night. That is where my suspicion starts from and then she tried to kill me. I just want to figure out why, if this is all because of Tatum, there was no need sho

wept maybe she might not be, Tatum says his wolf can’t sense hers night?” Amanda says, placing her index finger on her chin

Lella squints her brows as a thought comes to her mind but she pushes it away. If tatum was her real mate, his mark would have freed her wolf like her wolf said but losing her wolf the same night Carmela faked her kidnap has to have some connection

“The first thing is to figure out where the hell she has been in the last two years and what she has been up to.”

“We can start by asking around the neighbouring packs if anyone has seen her in the last two years,” Curtis replies.

“Yes but it has to be discreet and I need to dig into the past,” Leila replies.
