Chapter 69 The Same Last Name
After saying goodbye to Kristen, Camila still couldn’t rest easy about Gideon, so she secretly went to the hospital.
At the entrance of the ward, she saw the robust nurse.
“What are you looking at?” The chubby caregiver blocked the doorway.
“I was the patient’s daughter–in–law. Who are you?”
The caregiver looked at Camila. “Are you his daughter–in–law? How many daughters–in–law does the patient have?”
“Just one.”
“That’s not right. The one in the morning also said she is the daughter–in–law. What’s going on with you guys?” The caregiver was confused.
Camila knew right away that Svetla had come.
“I couldn’t explain it to you. I wanted to go in and see Gideon.”
“Gideon slept. I don’t know you either. You better leave quickly.”
“I’ll just take a quick look.” Camila pushed open the door and saw Gideon sleeping, just as she had expected.
There was still half a pill on the table next to the sickbed.
“What medicine did Gideon take every day now?”
“He didn’t take any medicine,” the caregiver walked over discontentedly.
Camila picked up the half pill on the table. “So what is this?”
“This was given to me by Gideon’s daughter–in–law for him to take,” the caregiver said, panic evident on her face, as she was about to take away the medication.
Camila avoided her and walked out with the medicine pills in her hand. “I’m going to ask the doctor what this medicine is for.”
The caregiver grabbed Camila’s wrist and said, “Give me the medicine.”
“No!”
The caregiver exerted force, and Camila’s wrist was very painful. She loosened her grip, and the caregiver snatched the pill away.
“Ms. Felton said that this medicine was meant to supplement the brain with nutrients. If you have any questions, you should go and ask her.”
“She was not a doctor. How could she casually give Gideon medicine?” Camila felt that there must be something wrong with the medicine.
She had intended to call Maxwell. However, the pills were
stolen and she had no evidence in her hands.
This matter involved Svetla, so she should still be cautious.
She thought of the business card in Gideon’s phone.
She dialed the number on the business card. The person who answered the call was a middle–aged man.
“Hello, Mr. Benson, I am Gideon’s daughter–in–law. My name is Camila.”
Before Camila could continue explaining the situation, Gideon’s lawyer, Ken Benson, seemed to know everything.
“Did Mr. Starling get sick and go to the hospital?”
“Yes. How did you know?” Camila was surprised.
“I was his personal lawyer. Just tell me, how was his current physical condition?”
“The doctor said he had a stroke. I just went to see him, and he was sleeping.”
“Was there any surveillance in the ward?”
“Yes.”
“Okay. Wait a moment and add me as a friend on Line, then send me Mr. Starling’s ward number.”
“Okay,” Camila felt like the lawyer had a crystal ball. “So, what else do you need me to do?”
“No need.”
Although Camila was puzzled in her heart, she didn’t ask anything.
Camila left the hospital and returned home. Kristen was in Hudson’s room. The two of them were talking and laughing, it seemed like they had made up.
In the evening, Hudson suggested to Camila that they move into the house outside. Kristen probably proposed marriage
to him.
Hudson said that his classmate started a company and asked him to work as a technical research and development personnel. He could work from home, and the temporary monthly salary was 1,600 dollars.
Hudson didn’t want to marry Kristen so soon, especially since
his health was not good at the moment. But the more this time, the more fragile his heart became. He didn’t want to burden Kristen, yet he didn’t want to lose her either.
Under Kristen’s gentle persuasion, Hudson finally
compromised. He planned to work hard and save more money in order to repay the housing loan to Camila as soon as possible.
However, Hudson also conveyed Kristen’s concerns. Kristen agreed that the wedding could be postponed, but there had to be a dowry and an engagement ring.
Camila comforted Hudson not to worry about these things. She would come up with a solution.
Hudson’s eyes turned red. He felt sorry for Camila, as he had burdened her.
Camila encouraged Hudson to be optimistic about
everything. Camila said that his leg would definitely heal and told him not to give up.
That night, Maxwell came home very late.
As soon as Maxwell came back, he locked himself in the

study, as if he was busy with something important.
When Camila brought him supper, it was already past eleven o’clock.
Maxwell was having a meeting with the executives. When he saw Camila enter, he quickly turned off the camera.
Camila was astonished by Maxwell’s rapid change of expression. Just a moment ago, he was extremely serious, but as soon as he saw her, he immediately became kind and friendly.
“You were busy all night. You must be hungry,” Camila brought over the prepared sandwich.
Camila saw the project proposal of Startak Gaming on his
desk.
“Did you go back to work at Startak Gaming?” Camila asked, surprised.
Maxwell choked on a bite of sandwich. It took him a while to
swallow it.
“I forgot to tell you that I went to work at a suburban branch of Startak Gaming. We have a big project starting soon, so I’ve been a bit busy.”
“Then you should take care of yourself,” Camila secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness it’s a different branch. If Kevin found out that Maxwell was her husband…
“What is your boss‘ name?”
“The big boss? His name is Kevin,” Maxwell answered nervously.
Is it really called Kevin?
“Is that his alias? Do you know what his real name is?”
“Why are you asking about this? I haven’t heard of his real name. I’ve only heard everyone calling him Kevin.”
“Is that so? I heard he seems to be surnamed Starling too.”
“It seems so,” Maxwell’s forehead was slightly sweaty. “At first, I thought since we have the same last name, maybe we are relatives.”
“What happened next?” Camila laughed.
“He had no idea who I was at all. We just happened to have the same last name,” Maxwell self–mockingly said.
“Haha, fool, who said that people with the same surname must always have a family relationship?”
“I was thinking, maybe I could also end up with a wealthy relative?” Maxwell suddenly wanted to tease Camila.
“Is it really good to have money? I, on the other hand, think that we are doing just fine. We may not be very wealthy, but with our own efforts, we can lead a decent life that meets our desires. That is enough.”
“Are you so easily satisfied? Don’t all women wish to marry a wealthy man? Don’t you desire to wear expensive jewelry, buy limited edition handbags, and live the life of a wealthy wife?”
Maxwell stared at Camila, trying to see her true thoughts in her eyes.
“The kind of life you described may be what many women

aspire to, but it is not what I want. I do not want to be
someone’s accessory; I want an independent personality. I do not want to be treated like a pet.”
“Would you be unhappy if I were to be wealthier than that Kevin in the future?”
“You really dare to think! Kevin is a billionaire. You haven’t even gone to bed yet, and you’re already dreaming?”
Camila took away the empty plate and poured Maxwell another glass of water. She said his illness hadn’t improved yet and he needed to go to bed early.
At that moment, Maxwell suddenly grabbed her.
