FOREVER KNIGHTS: #13 Salvaging Souls -
SAVAGE JAXSON - Overhearing a Call
Blue Lark Guild, Dread Hideout
SAVAGE JAXSON
Dimurah lay next to Savage in his bed. The tent flap blowing slightly in the night breeze. He trailed a fingertip along her collar around the front of her. Over her shoulder and to her shoulder blade pressed to his chest. His touch lingered on the strange scarring there that had begun to appear as her wings formed.
“It doesn’t hurt.” She murmured. Her naked form molded into the crook of his. Both sated from a night of loving.
“You should be sleeping he squeezed her to whisper lovingly into her neck.”
“So should you.”
“I never sleep.” He sighed.
“I know.”
His mind was blank in his relaxation. Enjoying the pleasant warmth of his woman. So when the words entered it they came like a far away whisper.
Karina. What have you done? There was such grief in the voice that Savage felt it intensely.
Like a punch to my gut.
He instantly sensed where it came from. Envisioning the deep Dread Hideout country beyond his Guild. Seeing where the leaves grew fat and vines hung from every tree. Until he saw the house surrounded by a high wooden fence. Sticking out like a sore thumb in all the foliage.
He saw a man he’d only glimpsed before carrying a woman with a great fall of blood red hair draping his arm. She was limp and sick and he was awash with mourning.
They need help. Savage sat up.
“What is it?” Dimurah asked.
“Someone is screaming.” He tried to explain.
“I don’t hear anything.” She leaned up to look around.
“Not here…”
“Where?”
“Merwood.” His eyes roved the ground around his bed.
Should I go?
It has to be one of Chavias’ knights if he’s powerful enough to call to me.
But Savage heard a huffing a long way away. Somewhere in Grier.
He could already catch the tinge of feline scent and knew someone was already coming. Already aiming for the man in the Merwood.
Sebastian…Savage had learned his name well over the last few years.
