FOREVER KNIGHTS: #17 Marked As Mine -
SAVAGE JAXSON - Sensing A Mark
Blue Lark Guild, Dread Hideout
SAVAGE JAXSON
Savage’s head fell back a moment and he felt the surge of energy dumping over him. Making him shudder.
“What was that?” Dimurah asked. Looking around furtively. “You did that a sevennight ago. You went into that strange trance.”
“I could feel someone…”
Being bitten.
He searched for better words. “Becoming…”
“What?” She asked breathlessly.
One of the Forever Knights. It was as though he could feel his own teeth sinking into tender flesh. Feel the surge of power and pleasure incomparable to any other as he knew he’d claimed someone as a mate. And it made him want to shout in exultation.
And she’s right.
Six days ago the same feeling had come over him late in the night. Accompanied by the vision of a woman he didn’t know. Hearing her sigh and feeling her surprised response to the bite mark.
Marking. He somehow knew that’s what it was called. Like a strange instinct in him.
A wolf howling made his eye flick sideways. As his ears tuned into the sound. The cries of numerous more rose in a fevered wave.
The pack’s response. Other Knights sensing one has marked a mate. Savage was very sure that’s what was happening but looking at Dimurah’s wide blinking eyes, he’d no idea how to explain it to her. Nor how he knew it was what occurred.
“You’re not going to tell me, are you?” She asked acidly. Irritation etching over her face.
“Murah…” Savage purred.
“Don’t you-” She pointed at him over the counter. “try and sweet talk me right now.”
Winter Haven was packed tonight. A crackling fire emitting from the fireplace which nearly consumed one wall. A boar was roasting in the fireplace. Its aroma wafting through the alehouse.
Savage had drug it back to the Blue Lark from his hunt today.
Above the fireplace hung an assortment of blades.
Phalanx called it ‘The Wall of Shame’. A deterrent for assassins thinking to challenge him.
And Cimmerii.
“I’m always trying to sweet talk you.” He lifted a brow invitingly.
“Don’t! Don’t do that.” She pointed.
He crossed his arms over the counter and gave her a long study. “What are you going to do about it?”
She huffed.
He crooked his finger beckoningly. “Come here, Murah.”
“My name is Di-murah.” She blinked slowly at him. Whispering back. Tempted to draw as close as he invited her to.
She leaned across the counter slowly and just as he lifted his hand to touch her she lurched back out of his reach. Smirking as she looked up at him from under lower lids.
“Ah!” He declared. “Is that how it is to be?”
“It is!” She declared.
“Wait until I get you in my tent later.” He purred.
“We shall see if you do…”
“Yes, we will.” He gave her a brief grin. Blue gaze zeroed in on her hungrily.
