Adella Arcos - POV

“Stay still, Ella!” Summer yelled, but I just couldn't stop blinking my eyes.

“Can we just skip wearing eyeliner?” I asked her, and she glared at me before she firmly held my face and brought the eyeliner closer to my eyes.

“Now, stop shaking, and I will be done with it before you know it,” she said, but she didn't wait for my answer. After a lot of tears, I was finally done with my makeup. I got up from the chair and made my way to wear my heels while Summer did some final touch-ups of her makeup.

“Shall we go?” I asked her, and she nodded her head before she grabbed her clutch, and we walked downstairs.

“We are ready.” Summer announced when she entered the living room, which made Vince look up from his phone.

“Finally, let's get going. The party has already started,” he said, and we all left Summer’s house. When we arrived at Alpha Ralph’s house, it was already crowded with pack members. “Why don't you ladies get down here? I will Park the car and join you guys inside.” Vince suggested.

“Sure, I will see you soon.” Summer said before pulling him in for a quick kiss. “Are you ready to rock the dance floor?” Summer asked me as we walked up the pathway, and I shook my head.

“The closer I get to the house, the more nervous I am,” I mumbled, and Summer took my hand in hers and lightly squeezed it.

“Relax, everything will be just fine,” she said, and we walked up the stairs. When we entered the house, we were first served the welcome drink, which was some sort of purplish liquid that tasted like mint and blueberries.

“Where do we go first?” I asked Summer while scanning my surroundings. The house was lit up with warm lights and was decorated with glass ornaments and flowers. Women were roaming around elegantly dressed in their best evening gowns and expensive jewelry while men were all hauled up in a corner observing everyone.

“First, let us go and get something to eat, and then replace your mate.” Summer said, and I nodded my head, and we made our way to the food counter. I took a bite of the chocolate eclairs while Summer was busy trying all the savory dishes there when the familiar scent of cinnamon and apples wafted in my direction.

I looked around when I finally spotted Jose walking down the stairs. When he reached the landing, my heartbeat started to increase while my mind was screaming at him to look in our direction. And it was like he heard my voice, his eyes looked around when they finally locked with mine and a smile appeared on his face. Our eye contact only lasted for a few minutes before he averted his glance.

“Summer,” I lightly tapped her shoulder, which made her turn around to face me. “He is here,” I said and she turned in the direction I was looking.

“Why don't you go and talk to him?” she suggested, and this made me look at her with wide eyes.

“In front of everyone?” I asked her exasperated, and she rolled her eyes at me.

“That's your mate, Adella. So go.” she pushed me, and when I was about to go, I noticed Alpha Ralph approaching him, and then he took him to meet someone else. “Why are you still standing here?” Summer asked me with a look of confusion.

“Alpha Ralph took him to go and meet someone,” I mumbled, and Summer face-palmed herself. The rest of the night, I stayed in one corner of the room, silently observing Jose’s every move.

“Adella?” I turned around to face my friend. “Vince is asking me to come and dance with him. Will you…”

“I will be fine. You go ahead.” I told her, and a smile formed on her face before she walked away from me.

“Excuse me?” a male voice called, and when I turned around, a huge smile was plastered on my face, it was Jose. “Would you like to dance with me?” he asked me and extended his hand.

“But, I don't really know how to dance,” I told him. He gently took my right hand and guided me to the center.

“Just follow my lead, and you will be fine,” he said, and I nodded my head. We stood at the edge of the dance floor, and Jose placed his hand around my waist, and the other took my hand. “Ready?”

“No,” I said nervously, and this made him laugh, and a few seconds later, the music began.

“You look beautiful in that dress.”

“Thank you,” I said, and then we were quiet again. The rest of the dance went by with us just enjoying each other’s presence when the song finally came to an end.

“Would you…”

“Gamma Gomez, would you like to dance with me?” a woman came and interrupted us, and Jose immediately turned his attention towards her.

“Sure,” he said and took her hand in his. “I will meet you later, Miss. Arcos,” he said, and I nodded my head, and walked back to the refreshment table. Jose only danced with that girl before he walked away from the dance floor.

“Ma’am?” I turned around when I saw a waiter with a tray in her hand. “Sir told me to give this to you,” she said and handed me a folded piece of paper.

“Who is it?” I asked her, and she pointed in the direction where Jose was standing. “Oh, thank you,” I said, and she nodded her head before she walked away. I opened the paper and read it.

We didn't get to spend enough time with each other. Meet me upstairs on the balcony at the end of the hallway.

The writing was hurriedly scribed, but then a small smile appeared on my face. I guess this is my time to ask Jose whether he truly loves me or not. I looked in his direction to see that he was nowhere to be found.

Maybe he must have gone upstairs already.
