Gamma Jose Gomez - POV

“Elena, I…I don't know how you would take this, but I don't want to lead you on anymore.” I began, which made Elena place her fork on the plate and lean back on her chair. Her eyes slightly widened, but then, she didn't say anything. “I…I found my mate.” I averted my eyes, not wanting to see the look of betrayal in her eyes.

The entire place descended into silence, I didn't hear anything break, nor any angry comments. When I looked up, I saw her eyes shining with tears, and her lips were slightly trembling, but she didn't speak a word. “Elena…”

“You didn't reject her, right?” she asked me calmly.

“No,” I breathed out while she nodded her head.

“I know I told you before that I would reject her when I found out, but then a lot of things happened and…” she raised her hand, stopping me from speaking.

“Just tell me what happened before you came here, Jose,” Elena asked me, and I let out a sigh.

“I was cleaning out my mother’s things when I came across her diary. All this time, I have been thinking that my parents were fated mates, and that was the reason things didn't work out between them.” I paused and made sure she was still listening before I continued. “But I was wrong. They were never fated mates.”

I felt like a huge weight was lifted off my heart when I said that out loud. When I looked at Elena again, I saw a small smile on her face. It was not a mocking smile, instead, it was a content smile. “Aren't you mad at me?” I asked her puzzled at her reaction, and she shook her head.

“I have experienced the mate bond once, Jose. And I know how it feels to be in love with someone, and it is not that easy to let that person go,” she spoke before she causally started eating her food again. “I will never come in between you or your mate, Jose. You don't have to worry about that,” she told me. I was shocked to hear her say that. If it was someone else, they wouldn't have let this issue go that easily.

“I will pay for all the arrangements you spend for our wedding.” I offered, but she shook her head.

“I never ordered anything for our wedding, Jose,” she said air quoting the word wedding.

“What are you talking about? What about the cake tasting and the flower arrangements and…”

“We indeed went for all that, but there was still a part of me that was telling me that this was all wrong. A few days before the cake tasting, I was about to tell you to call this off, but I was hoping that you would tell me the truth, Jose.”

“Did you know that I found my mate earlier?” I asked her, and she nodded her head.

“You took her to the movies in the human town once, and I was there on a business trip, that was when I saw you both. The pure bliss and serene look on my face made me realize the mistake I was about to commit, that was why I never really called you much.”

“I am so sorry, Elena. I have been a coward. I should have told this to you in the beginning.” I apologized, but she shook her head.

“We are all humans, Jose. Not a fictional character in a movie. We can never be perfect, and we can never not make a mistake. But the point here is that we learn from our mistakes.” Elena said with a smile on her face. For the first time, my eyes welled up with tears. I got up from my place and went and pulled her into a hug. “Thank you so much for being so understanding, Elena,” I mumbled in her ears, and she nodded her head and pulled away from me.

“Don't waste any more time. Go and tell your mate the truth and beg for her forgiveness. I know it will be hard, but I hope she forgives you.” Elena said, and I nodded my head and walked out of her house. On my way, I texted Adella, and when I was about to get into my car, I heard Elena call out my name.

“I think you are forgetting something,” she said, and I checked for my phone, wallet, and car keys.

“Everything is with me.”

“You never told me her name,” she said, and this made a smile appear on my face.

“Adella, Adella Arcos.”

“Well, best of luck in your journey,” Elena said with a huge smile on her face, and I nodded my head before I climbed back into the car and drove back to my house.

Elena Lopez - POV

Many people might think my activities are suspicious, but the truth is, I genuinely want Jose to get back with Adella. Even though it is heartbreaking to see him leave me like this, I know that he will never be happy with me if I force him to accept me as his mate.

Deep within my heart, I know that the moon goddess must have chosen a second-chance mate for me, so all I have to do now is wait for him to come looking for me. After Jose left my house, I walked back inside and began cleaning all the dishes. Looking at Jose’s half-eaten plate, a sad smile crossed my face.

This might be the last breakfast that we share together.

“You did the right thing, Elena.” the soapy plate slipped from my hand and fell into the sink.

“Rose,! This is the first time I heard you speak to me without any anger.” I told my Wolf.

“I am happy you realized your mistake, Elena. I guess we can now move on in peace,” she asked me, and I nodded my head.

“Jose is our past, and I guess we will have to move on now,” I said, and my Wolf agreed to that.
