Half Faced Alpha -
Chapter 43
"How much longer?" Beta Scott asked as he paced around. Alpha Axton was balanced on his right, feeling a little better.
"You are making me nervous, beta."
"The alpha I know does not get nervous. I am the one who gets nervous."
Alpha Axton nodded. "I have not felt like that alpha for a very long time. That alone is making me very nervous."
"You should not be."
Beta Scott turned to the open door, and Natalia was standing there, carrying a heavily filled tray. He turned to Alpha Axton whose eyes widened, his lips slightly parted.
"Natalia?" He couldn't help the excitement that surged in his chest, the butterflies that erupted in his stomach. He was so happy it almost hurt.
"Yes, me." She said, and looked down at her tray.
"Help her," he said to Beta Scott who was shocked to immobility.
He immediately nodded and went to her, then collected the tray from her. She swallowed, her lips set in a straight line as she walked into the room.
Beta Scott brought a seat to where alpha Axton was facing, and she sat. He excused them immediately, closing the door behind him.
"You are here." He said, watching her. Some sentences are incomplete if you are not reading this novel on Narugi.com. Visit Narugi.com to read the complete chapters for free. He felt a little insecure with the way he looked, and seeing just how radiant she was even with the sadness and tiredness behind her eyes. The most important to him, however, was the fact that she was there.
"Axton...I really do not know why I am here."
His smile diminished a little. "You are...here to see me, right? I am a bad person but..."
"Yes, you are. But my mother...she is not the worst thing you did to me. She was wrong in her own way, and I would have never wished her dead, but...that was still not the worst."
His brows furrowed as he watched her. "Then what was it?"
She shook her head. "It was watching me while I fell in love with you."
He wasn't sure if he should be happy, or heartbroken. At least, she loved him, but she regretted it.
"I am sorry."
"Do not dare apologize for my feelings." She said, her chin trembling with the force of her tears.
"I am sorry." He said again.
She swallowed, then bit down hard on her lip, her lashes blinking rapidly to shoo the tears away. "I am not sorry," She said and looked up.
His eyes were the soft kind of intense, and he wished he could do more with his body than just lie down.
"I am not sorry for liking you. I am not sorry fir falling for you. Maybe I should have forgotten like father wanted me to because right now... it is making me feel like such a bad daughter." Her voice trailed off as she let her tears take control instead.
He looked down. "I am sorry for that too, Natalia. There is nothing else I can offer you right now. There is nothing else I can redeem my self with. I am sorry."
She nodded then raised her head to look him, dabbing at her face with the sleeve of her dress.
"Have you eaten?" She asked him, her voice cracking.
"I want to listen to you. I do not care if you tell me how you hate me...or how much wrong I have done to you. How you regret that day at your house, or the carriage. As long as you talk to me, Natalia. It has been so long without your voice. I miss it. I miss you." He swallowed, feeling his throat contract. "I know this is shameless, but...I can not help missing you so please talk to me. About any and every thing. About the things I did not know. And things you wished I did."
She was crying hard by the time he stopped to catch his own breath and blink back his tears and she nodded, her hair bouncing in front of her.
"I will. I will, Axton."
She stood and helped him adjust, and she sat on the bed, laying his head on her lap carefully. He hands, as if on their own, laced into his hair.
He closed his eyes, his body relaxing.
"That night, Axton...I thought you would replace me too. I saw you approaching and...I was sure I was going to end up like my mother. I was almost sure you would do what it took to clear us all off, including me."
"I would never harm a child." He said simply, shaking his head.
"Is that why you said that the other day? When I was telling you about my mother and you said he would never harm a child...is that why you said it?"
He nodded. "I am sorry."
"Why would you be?"
"I could have told you right then."
She nodded. "You could have. It must have shocked you too. When I picked my mother's necklace that day and saw her name on it...to be honest I wondered what sort of twisted destiny that was. Then that day itself, you were lying in the gardens in front of my home..." She smiled, remembering it. "I was flustered. How could someone so perfect drop from the sky when the only thing I know about romance is the things I have read in books?"
He looked up to her. "You...thought of romance when you saw me for the first time?"
She laughed. "I think of romance every time I look at you...." She left a heart wrenching pause, then said, "Even right now."
His heart skipped a beat, something he had not felt in what seemed like years. He really did miss her, and how she made him feel.
She fixed her eyes on his, the whirlpools she saw in his eyes threatening to make her fall all over again. She knew she said she needed more time, but it was hard. Way too hard to stay away.
She cleared her throat and looked away, breaking the enchantment. It had been that delicate, but everything with them was delicate. That was probably what made it even more precious. "So after that..."
He nodded, pushing himself back to reality.
"I guess it was faster that I thought it would be. I knew my father did not approve, but... he had no reason not to. You were harmless."
"But then, I was not."
She nodded, then felt his forehead. "Are you in. a lot of pain?"
"I can handle it."
She laughed, touching his forehead. "This reminds me of all those times I wondered what you were thinking. It was a wild ride, but I think it was worth it."
He watched her, letting her last words hang. "You look...the prettiest I have ever seen you right now."
She stopped talking, the hand that had been on his forehead now settled on his chest, her breath stuck in her wind pipe.
"I am not...wearing anything special."
He nodded. "I thought the same the first time I met you too." It was the first time he had been dumbstruck, the first time someone had been so ethereal that he had actually noticed it.
She pursed her lips and took a deep breath. "I guess it has been ten years." Long enough to forget it. Long enough to let it go.
He smiled at her, but it was quickly replaced an intense gaze. "Do my...lips look weird too?"
She let her eyes travel down his face to his lips. She still found them beautiful. Just like the first, and the second..and the millionth time she had seen them.
"They have never looked weird." She answered in a low whisper.
He nodded, for the first time actually wishing he was cured. Because then he would be able to lean into her. Right now, he was at her mercy. And she could do whatever she wanted. Lean in to him or let him starve.
She did not take her eyes off him, reveling in the raw hunger she saw in his eyes, and the regret that splashed across it.
"How about you convince me?" He asked, baiting her.
She looked down at his lips one more time and bit down on hers. It only made him more anxious as he lay down there, almost immobile.
"I guess I could do that." She said and leaned in, stopping merely an inch away from him.
He swallowed, her scent filling his nostrils, his eyes taking in the skin of her face and neck, her eyes, her lips. He watched her, hoping she would not change her mind. Hoping she would decide to go through with it impulsively, like she always did. "Is it torture?" She asked, a sly smile playing on her lips.
"More than you will ever know, Natalia."
Her smile grew wider, and she finally leaned in, closing the short distance between them as she took his lips softly in hers.
It looked like she had more torture in store for him, as she broke the kiss as he was just starting to get lost in it.
But Axton was not the type to be starved, or tortured. He was more dominant than she realized, and with his right hand, he gently held the back of her head, and guided her back to him again, taking her like he had never before.
