Chapter 991 Definitely Complete The Bet
Ivy had always felt guilty about Damion over the years. She knew how much he loved children, but she also knew that he had left the decision up to her. His actions made it clear that she should focus on living for herself first.
Ivy wanted to see what she was capable of achieving and if she could become an excellent woman. Most importantly, Ivy wanted to prove that she was a woman worthy of Damion's love. Even though people who were close to her didn't think that Ivy wasn't good enough for Damion, in her heart, Ivy knew there were many people who thought otherwise.
After all, when news of their engagement became public, many people criticized Damion for choosing someone like Ivy instead of one of the many wealthy heiresses or socialites available.
Some even went as far as calling Ivy a promiscuous woman behind closed doors and using vulgar language against her. Before this period in time, these comments didn't bother her too much. However, now they hurt because they affected Damion too.
She couldn't bear seeing him being criticized when he was such a kind person at heart. So over the past few years, Ivy focused on building up her career and doing well at work. Even though it was impossible not to rely on Damion's company somewhat, no one would ever say again that she wasn't good enough for him.
Perhaps some might call Ivy immature or selfish in wanting to prove herself worthy of his love. Nevertheless, it remained important to her nonetheless.
Now that she had finally proven herself worthy in his eyes and others', it was time for Ivy consider things from his perspective too. She knew what he wanted out of life and would do everything possible within reason to make him happy.
As Ivy watched Damien get excited about it at this moment, she felt uneasy inside. If only proving something hadn't been so important, then maybe Damien could have been happy sooner. Taking Damien's hand into hers brought tears into Ivy's eyes. It was hard for her describe her feelings right now but she just wanted him to be happy.
The atmosphere suddenly became a bit heavy, but Eden broke the tension by saying, "By the way, should we up the ante on our bet?"
As soon as he spoke, Walter and Miles both gave him a sharp look.
They were never in a hurry before, but now they were clearly at the bottom of the pack. Even with Ash and Mikayla, not to mention Beata and Yael, they were still at the back of the group. This made them compete against each other.
Eden wasn't afraid of their hostile glares. He provocatively said, "Why are you looking at me? It's your fault for not being proactive. Let's just change the bet and see who comes in last." Patrick was enjoying watching this drama unfold. As one of the earliest members present, he wanted to know who would be last.
He suggested, "I'll raise my bet. Whoever comes in last between Walter and Miles will manage our company."
This caused Walter and Miles to grab their pillows from beside them and throw them directly at Patrick.
That bastard! He was really their "good" brother!
At times like this when there was personal gain involved, it was really unforgivable.
Patrick's suggestion made everyone laugh uncontrollably except for Kelvin who had managed Hayden Group for six months before returning it back into Patrick's hands again. Now Patrick was racking his brain every day trying to figure out how to get Walter or Miles to take over management duties because Ridge or Rosemary or Perla wouldn't be able to do so until twenty years later if ever.
Desperate times call for desperate measures so he had no choice but focus on his two brothers instead.
Ben said, "I've never seen anything like you guys before. People might think Hayden Group is nothing special."
If an outsider saw this situation, they would probably think that Hayden Group was just an empty shell since none of its four siblings wanted anything to do with it.
But anyone who knew better understood that Hayden Group's performance was outstanding, which meant its managers were extremely busy all year round.
Patrick said, "Anyway, if you two don't figure things out for yourselves soon, someone else will be taking over for me. I'm just trying to help you guys out."
The current arrangement was that each person managed for six months and then took turns resting. However, if someone's wife became pregnant during their turn, they can automatically skip that half-year. Patrick had been thinking about having a second child with Aimee lately but of course he wasn't planning on saying anything about it. Who knew what these two might do to trip him up?
Walter and Miles stared at Patrick for a while and at some point they both actually thought he had become kinder. But as soon as the idea popped into their heads, they quickly dismissed it - come on now, Patrick being kind? Haha!
So the two of them looked at each other and realized that in this moment their thoughts were aligned.
It looked like it really was necessary to fight for this because otherwise the last one left standing will be Patrick who will definitely finish this bet off.
