Chapter 39 Levi

Just as a reminder to anyone who has not been here for one of our judgements, I want to give the basics,” Head Historian Isaac begins. “Now that Alpha Silver and Commander and Head Warrior Sophia have given their opening statements, we will have time for debate. During that time, you may ask any questions of our petitioners or our historians. Any arguments will automatically be stopped should they become unproductive or hostile. Once all deliberations or questions are finished, we’ll

take a vote.”

There is silence for a beat and I feel sweat start to bead at the nape of n*eck. This fundamental question could mean me seeing my mate or never seeing her again. I’ve got to keep them on my side.

“When did you replace out about what your son did to his mate? Alpha Jonathan from the North Mountain Pack asks my father.

Dad is…well to say that he’s pis sed at me would be an understatement. That I would treat my mate that way, that I would even entertain using her as a a baby mill pis sed him off beyond belief. But I think that he’s also angry at himself. That he continued to allow this culture within our pack to treat the weaker wolves as lesser,

Goddess, why would you push me like this? Had I been in my right mind, would this have happened. Honestly, I may have been a bit disappointment, having a luna that barely had a wolf. But only at first. She would have been my Goddess appointed mate. I would have accepted her. I would have loved her. She would have been an asset to our pack. A wonderful and loving luna. A beautiful and caring mother to my pups. And the mate of my dreams. And the Goddess pushed me to push her away.

I’ve hurt her beyond imagining. And I honestly don’t think that I will ever accept another mate,

e, even if I do have a second

chance mate out there. Oakley is my one and only. I may accept another luna, even continue the line with her. But I won’t mark

another. I don’t deserve to.

“Much too late,” my father replies. “Much, much too late to have stopped this. I didn’t know until Oakley went over the pack

border and Levi screamed out in pain.”

“And do you condone what your son did? Not only did he treat his mate in the most abominable way, but he also strung my daughter along, as well as three other she-wolves” That would be Brittany’s father, Alpha Stephen of the Three Lakes Pack.

“I do not. And my son wouldn’t have done that to you, to your daughter, and definitely not to his mate had he been in his

right mind. My son may be flawed, as is my pack, but that is one thing that we teach even the youngest pups. Your mate is the

best thing that will ever happen to you. If my son was in his right mind and not being used by the Goddess, he would never have

done any of what he did over the last three months. For what happened to your daughter and to the other three she-wolves, I can only say that I’m deeply sorry. There is nothing that I wouldn’t do to change that.” My father’s voice is h oar se and gravely. It’s the most that I’ve heard him talk since he’s found out about what I did to Oakley. And none of it was to me.

He takes a deep breath and continues. “As for what happened to Ms. Moon, it is the deepest regret of my life that I allowed my pack to do what it has done to her. That we shunned her, allowed her to feel unworthy. To the point even her family felt that she was worthless in their deepest heart of hearts. From everything that I’ve learned about Ms. Moon, she would be an amazing luna to my pack. She would be the best luna that we’ve had in centuries. Because she has the biggest heart of all wolves that I’ve ever heard of. She is brilliant and compassionate, with a strong sense of justice and morality. It is my most fervent hope and desire for her to come back to our pack. For her to take up her role as our luna. I know that it will be difficult for her.

Probably the hardest thing that she will ever have to do and I would whole-heartedly understand if she doesn’t want to see her

family or my son ever again. Hell, I wouldn’t want to. But if she comes back, we will do everything that we can to help her and

her family heal. To help the fractured matebond heal. Because she is worth it. The matebond is worth it. And she deserves to

make her own decision when faced with the real Levi, not the one that the Goddess twisted to give Oakley this choice. My vote

is that we have Commander Knight tell us if Oakley is here and that we allow these two mates to see each other again.

s that we have

Chapter 39 Levi

Because the matebond is stronger than any other bond on this earth. They will feel each other everyday for the rest of their lives if it isn’t either accepted or fully rejected. And that is an agony I wouldn’t want to wish on my worst enemy”

When my

father finishes, the hall goes quiet, only the murmurings of alphas between themselves and their leaderships

One of the alphas, one that I only know by name and sight, Alpha Jeremiah of the Oak Wood pack asks, “Head Historian, what does the Goddess’s Word say about the matebond vs. the need to keep the Elite 10’s privacy?”

“Excellent question, Alpha Jeremiah. Historian Corbin, would you read about mates to the hall? Head Historian Isaac

directs.

Historian Corbin stands and reads from the book in front of him. “A reading from The Goddess’s Choice, Chapter 1, verses 1-5. ‘And unto each and every wolf, I will give a mate that I have chosen specifically for thee. This bond will be for a lifetime, the strongest bond ever created by man or g od, even me. One that can only be broken by both parties rejecting each other. This is is the strongest bond that will ever exist for my people, second only to that between a wolf and their pup. Let no wolf come between two mates on pain of punishment from me.”

Well, that seems pretty cut and dry to me and gives me a lot of hope that this proceeding might go my way. I have to caution myself not to get my hopes up too much, because I still don’t know what’s going to happen.

Head Historian Isaac nods and then turns to Historian Elise. “Please read about the Elite 10 to the hall.”

Historian Elisa stands and reads from the book in front of her. “A reading from The Goddess’s Warriors, Chapter 3, verses 23-32. “The Elite 10 will be hidden from all other wolves. They will give up their pack, their families, and their mates to serve the greater good. And to do that, there will be one to help them, protect them, and guide them. That one, the liaison between wolfkind and the Elite 10, will keep them hidden from the rest of the world, under penalty of death. It is of utmost importance

that the Elite 10’s identities remain a secret. It will effect their future children, their family’s lives, and any life they might have after they have completed their service. That is why the record of my descendants has passed away from human knowledge. I have seen the future if this was not done my descendants hunted down and killed, caged and used for their powers, used as broodmares and studs to build a bigger army. The death and destruction of your world that can come from all this, I cannot allow it my children. Their names must be kept hidden at all costs.”

I see a satisfied nod from Commander Knight. She isn’t doing this just because it’s her job. She’s doing it because she

could die if she f ucks this up. I get why she doesn’t want to tell me.

There are murmurings around the hall again, but something is rattling around in my head. Something is nagging at me after what was just said. And then it hits me. Sophia’s job is to protect the Elite 10. But even if Oakley is part of the Elite 10 training. she’s not a part of the Elite 10. Not yet.

*She’s not Elite 10,” I whisper. H ook up at my father, who seems to be the only one to hear me. Louder, getting more

people’s attention, I say. “She’s not Elite 10.”

Everyone gets quiet and looks at me. “Oakley isn’t Elite 10. That means that her identity doesn’t have to be kept a secret”

Everyone looks at me. I just stare at Sophia. She looks pis sed, but gives me a grim smile. She knows that I’ve got her.

My father says, “I suggest we call for a vote.”

It’s seconded and Head Historian Isaac calls for a vote. The results are 12 to 8. In my favor! And the historians allow the

vote to pass.

I turn to Sophia. “Is she here?”

Sophia looks me dead in the eye. “Yes. She is”.
