Chapter 460

When Agnes saw that comment, she felt like she had frozen solid, her spine chilled to the bone.

Alyssa attempted suicide by overdosing?

Agnes flashed back to the moment when Jared had just left, the fear in his eyes.

Without thinking, Agnes headed straight out the door, dashing towards Hope Hospital.

However, the hospital entrance was tightly sealed off by security, and reporters were crowded like ants.

If Agnes showed up now, she'd be the perfect target for a media feeding frenzy.

The word on the street was that she was the one who broke the story.

She hid in a comer for a while, overhearing a reporter saying, "I heard she was saved just in time, but she's in a pretty bad state mentally. No one knows the specifics yet. Tim almost had a heart attack when he found out. They've been hiding this for so many years, and now it's all out in the open. The Whitfield family's reputation is ruined."

Another reporter chimed in, "You don't get it, it's bigger than you think. I heard Cilian has always wanted Ryder Whitfield to return to the Thomas family, apparently, he's involved in this too."

"The drama among these wealthy families is so complicated. But, the deeper we dig into it, the better it is for us reporters. We won't have to worry about headlines for a while." The reporters chuckled and chatted amongst themselves.

Agnes turned around and left.

By rights, Alyssa's current predicament should be a source of satisfaction for Agnes. Alyssa was ridiculed, attacked by public opinion, scandal-ridden, and her reputation in tatters, just like her mother back in the day.

Regardless of who had spilled the news, in a way, her revenge had been exacted, and it was perfect.

And yet, there was not a shred of satisfaction in Agnes' heart, only a growing heaviness, especially upon hearing of Alyssa's suicide attempt

Back then, her own mother had been driven to suicide in desperation.

Now, Alyssa was experiencing what her mother had gone through, every bit of it.

She should have been happy for this, happy for her mother. I

The woman who had once framed her was now walking the same path, backed into a corner, her life devoid of meaning.

But, Agnes couldn't bring herself to feel any joy, only a profound sadness.

She wasn't sure where this grief was coming from.

Maybe deep down, Agnes knew that the moment Alyssa attempted suicide, any emotional connection between her and Jared was irrevocably severed. Because Alyssa was Jared's biological mother! Just as she hated Alyssa, Jared would end up despising her.

A smile tugged at the corners of Agnes' mouth, but tears were streaming down her face.

Perhaps all of this was meant to be.

Laura had shared this secret with her, hoping that she would bring Alyssa down and cut ties with the Whitfield family.

But after tossing and turning all night, Agnes hadn't been able to make up her mind. Laura finally helped her make the move, putting an end to her indecision.

But...

Agnes gently laid a hand on her stomach. "Baby, I'm sorry that you won't have a father when you're born, But I promise, I'll do everything I can to make it up to you."

In the end, Agnes returned to Pritchard Mansion.

Pritchard Mansion.

Last night, Beatrice didn't come home.

This morning, she saw the explosive news.

She rushed back home and flung open Laura's bedroom door.

Laura was applying makeup. Seeing Beatrice, she asked, "What's the matter? You look frantic. I've told you countless times, you need to change this temper."

Beatrice pointed at the front page of an entertainment newspaper, saying, "What's going on? Why did you tell our trump card to Agnes? Now that Agnes has made it public, what am I supposed to do? What am I going to negotiate with the Whitfield family with? How am I going to marry Jared?"
