Jared turned around.

He casually handed Kerri a business card, "Dr. Bradford, I don't mean to stir up a fuss, but I need to meet this irresponsible parent. I've met this kid before, so I'll take care of him for the next few days. When his folks show up, you can tell them to hit me up."

With that, Jared picked up Nocturne and was about to leave.

As if Kerri was going to let him just waltz off with Nocturne like that.

She quickly chased after him, "Jared, you can't just take her. The kid's parents left him with me, so it's my job to look after him. You don't have any ties to the kid and you can't just snatch him away like that." Jared furrowed his brows, "Dr. Bradford, I've left you my contact info, the minute the kid's folks come back, I'll bring him right over. Are you trying to stop me for some other reason? Or has the kid got some special link to you?"

Jared had his suspicions, because he couldn't believe that the parents would just dump their kid with a random doc and then disappear for days.

That was just plain irresponsible.

But, if the kid had some special connection with Kerri, well, that would be a different story.

Kerri was stunned.

Jared had a piercing gaze, his eyes clearly inquisitive.

Kerri was afraid her persistence would arouse his suspicion.

She sighed in defeat, "Fine, you can take him for now. When his parents come back, I'll have them contact you. You'll have to bring the kid back then."

Jared retracted his gaze, turned around and left.

Kerri's heart sank into an abyss.

She was no good at acting, so she only had the option to stall.

But she didn't know what to do next.

Agnes couldn't possibly show her face to Jared.

Now she could only play it by ear.

After Jared left, Agnes showed up.

Agnes had been watching the hospital entrance from the car, and finally saw Jared leaving with Nocturne.

Agnes knew, Kerri hadn't managed to keep Nocturne.

This outcome was within her expectations.

Back in Manhattan, Jared was really keen on meeting Nocturne's parents.

He had his reasons.

Jared was just like that, once he decided on something, he wouldn't back down until he achieved his goal.

He had already missed one chance, so this time, he wouldn't give up that easily.

Agnes just felt a headache coming on.

Although she had Nocturne's location, she couldn't show up in front of Nocturne.

If she found someone to pretend to be Nocturne's parent, not to mention Nocturne wouldn't easily follow a stranger, Jared, with his personality, would definitely investigate their background thoroughly. This idea was simply impossible.

Agnes went to Kerri's office.

Kerri was also feeling extremely anxious.

Seeing Agnes, she looked even more guilty, "Agnes, I'm so sorry, I couldn't keep Nocturne here. I was afraid saying too much would arouse Jared's suspicion. He seems... to hold that kid in high regard." Agnes was feeling pretty down, "I saw this coming. We'll just have to think of another way out."

Kerri suggested, "I can ask a friend to pretend to be Nocturne's parent, and then take him away from Jared, would that work?"
