Her Chosen Love -
Chapter 22
Layla's pov
It has been almost a month since everything happened, and things were starting to get back to normal. Aaron was still missing of course. Adrian has been looking for him, but it has been no use.
Adrian and I have become really close again, and I wouldn't trade him for anything. We were planning a wedding soon, now that everything is settled, and of course with the fact that we love each other.
Right now I was laying in his arms when I suddenly woke up. I just felt an urge to go outside, and I soon found myself walking out the castle. I walked through the woods when, I heard a twig snap behind me. I spun around and was shocked to replace Aaron standing there with a sad look on his face.
"Aaron, is that you?" His skin didn't have the black veins, and I was hoping he was himself again.
"Yeah," he said, his voice cracking.
"Are you . . ."
"I'm okay for right now, but not forever. It will never go away." He looked at me and then looked out in the distance. "I'm sorry for hurting you."
"It wasn't you, Aaron."
He only shook his head and looked up at the sky. "It doesn't matter. I know how to stop it and I'm going to put and end to it."
"You do? You know how to get rid of the darkness?" I asked, staring at him with wide eyes.
"I know how to kill the darkness," he admitted quietly.
"There's something you're not telling me," I accused.
"I have had the darkness since I was born. It has always been a part of me."
"What are you saying? I don't understand."
He grabbed my hands and looked in my eyes. "To get rid of the darkness I have to die."
"No!" I gasped. "There has to be another way." Tears started to fall from my eyes as I shook my head in denial.
"It's the only way, Layla." He pulled a small vial from his pocket, and I saw it was empty.
"What was that?" I asked, my voice small.
"Poison."
I let out a sob, and he wrapped his arms around me. "This isn't fair. What am I supposed to do?"
"You're going to go back to the castle, and live happily ever after with my brother." Aaron said into my hair.
"I'm not leaving you. Not now. I can't."
"Tell my brother that I love him, and not to miss me too much." He laughed sadly and pulled away from me.
"Why don't you tell him yourself?" A voice said from behind us. Adrian was standing there along with everyone else that was close to Aaron.
The rest of the night stories were told until finally, Aaron rested his head on me, and when my lips touched his forehead, I felt him completely go limp. The tears didn't stop after that. It was now the next day, and everyone was gathering for the funeral.
Every vampire and werewolf came, and mourned the loss of a king. The loss of someone who was special and who would be missed by many. Jake was going to be King, and everyone agreed that it would be best while Zach became Beta and Carter became Delta.
Adrian and I finally moved back to his castle, and we finally were able to settle down and be true mates.
