Her Precious Baby -
Chapter 121
Chapter 121
It was as though a bomb had gone off in Angeline’s mind when she heard what Evander said.
Her heart was racing as she gulped.
At that moment, she felt as if someone had discovered the hole in her heart and filled it up. “I… don’tunderstand what you mean by that, Mr. Golding. What prompted you to come to that conclusion?”
His darkened eyes gradually burned with passion as he stared at the woman who was hanging herhead. Then, he grabbed Angeline’s arm and pulled her into his embrace.
“Raise your head and look at me.” There was a tinge of suppressed eagerness in his cold voice.
Frightened by his tone, she slowly lifted her head and met the unfathomable gaze in his eyes. “Mr.Golding…”
“Call me Evander,” Evander said teasingly with his deep voice as though a budding flame had come tolife in the darkest of nights.
In response, she blushed so hard that her ears turned red. Glancing away, she responded, “No matterwhat, I care for Floretta. I simply hope she’ll grow up healthy and happy with no personal feelingsinvolved.”
“Why are you so eager to explain yourself? Are you afraid I’ll do something to you?” He continued fixinghis gaze on her.
Obviously, Angeline was unable to resist his teasing. Her mind was scrambling with chaos.
She never expected someone as solemn as Evander to be so good at teasing people.
“Look at you. Are you playing hard to get? It sure does seem like it to me.” Once again, he took onestep closer to her, his expression unchanging.
Panicking, she retreated backward until her leg accidentally hit a nearby cabinet. That caused her tolose her balance, and as a result, she fell backward.
She reflexively stretched out her hand and grabbed the closest thing to her to break her fall.
When Angeline saw it was Evander’s collar that she was holding, her eyes widened. In response, shelet go of his collar when she collapsed.
However, he managed to catch her in time and covered the back of her head with his palm.
A dull thud was heard as they both fell to the floor. Angeline didn’t get hurt because she landed in hisembrace and was protected by him, but she was still visibly shaken.
“You still haven’t answered my question,” he said, his dark eyes filled with worry.
Staring into his eyes, Angeline forgot to let go of his collar and uttered incoherently, “I—”
Before she could say another word, Evander’s cold lips sealed hers.
Their heaving chests that housed their racing hearts were practically pressed up against each other. The night was dark and quiet, and as time passed, their intimacy only made it harder for them tobreathe.
Evander could smell the fresh fragrance coming from the woman. The scent was as delightful as adrug, causing him to develop an addiction.
Whenever he was close to her, he would replace himself unable to control his actions or his words.
Angeline immersed herself in his kiss. She was so hopelessly overwhelmed by it that she melted intohis embrace, forgetting to push him away.
It would be a lie to say she didn’t have feelings for Evander.
However, it wouldn’t be appropriate or wise for them to start dating with how things were currentlygoing. Her desire to search for her child and seek revenge triumphed over her desire to start a romanticrelationship.
Despite that, her undefined and unfathomable emotions was causing her distress.
At that moment, the sound of someone turning the doorknob was heard.
In response to that, Angeline widened her eyes and shoved Evander away in a panic.
A second later, the door to the bedroom was opened, and Floretta stepped out of the room whilerubbing her sleepy eyes. “I want to pee, Angel.”
“Okay, I’ll take you to the restroom right away.” Angeline’s hoarse voice sounded somewhat awkward.Swiftly, she pulled away from Evander’s embrace.
Tilting her head, Floretta stared at them curiously and inquired innocently, “Are you playing games withAngel again, Daddy?”
Evander’s expression was still terrifyingly grim when his business was interrupted despite the fact thatFloretta was his daughter. Still, I managed to get an answer from Angeline, and I wasn’t disappointed.
Angeline smiled at the girl, took her hand, and brought her to the restroom.
When they exited the restroom, Evander was already gone.
The tense atmosphere from earlier had disappeared, allowing Angeline to heave a sigh of relief. However, when she thought about the scene from earlier, her face reddened like a tomato. I can’tbelieve I didn’t push him away! Thanks to my subconscious act, now I know how I truly felt about him.
Angeline’s mind was still preoccupied with the cause of her parents’ deaths. Hence, on the last day ofthe holidays, she thought of returning to the Sorelle residence to see if she could replace any clues.
Since no one could take care of Floretta, she brought the little girl with her.
Upon arriving at the Sorelle residence, she rang the doorbell several times before the door finallyopened.
A housekeeper in her thirties came to get the door and stared at her with confusion. “Who are youlooking for?”
I’ve never seen her in the Sorelle residence before. With a deep voice, Angeline explained, “My name’sAngeline Sorelle. Where’s Mr. Ziegler?”
“He was fired by Ms. Joseline a week ago.” The housekeeper’s tone abruptly turned hostile especiallywhen she heard Angeline’s name.
She scowled as she continued, “I know you. Ms. Joseline specially ordered me to forbid you fromentering this building.”
In response, Angeline sneered. I can’t believe Joseline had gotten so full of herself when I’ve only beenaway for a few days.
“This old lady is scary, Angel,” Floretta timidly expressed as she clutched the corner of Angeline’s shirttightly.
Worried that the little girl would be traumatized, Angeline took her hand and was about to leave.
“Let her in.” A raspy old voice was heard from the living room.
At that moment, Angeline saw Wilfred standing in the middle of the living room with a walking stick.Even though it had only been a few months since she last saw him, he seemed to have grown mucholder. His back was hunched, and his increased white hair was impossible to ignore.
The housekeeper frowned. “Old Mr. Sorelle, Ms. Joseline said—”
“Tell her I ordered you to do so.” His tone was solemn as he staggered forward, fumbling to supporthimself using the walking stick he propped on the marble floor.
Angeline stared at him in bewilderment and realized his gaze was unfocused. Is he… blind?
Throughout the process, Wilfred’s leg hit the coffee table multiple times, but the housekeeper simplystood at the side and stared at him coldly with no intention of helping him out.
Angeline couldn’t bear to watch anymore and stepped forward with Floretta, helping the old man makehis way to the couch.
The girl carefully held onto Wilfred’s arm as she reminded solemnly, “You need to walk slowly, or you’regoing to get hurt.”
An amicable smile played on Wilfred’s lips when he heard that. “Are you not afraid of me, little girl?” heasked, his tone tender.
“Why should I be afraid? You’re kind, and my teachers have always taught us to respect the elderly!”
The old man was delighted to hear that. He chuckled and asked, “Tell me. What’s your name?”
Patting her chest, Floretta responded, “My name is Floretta Golding! I’m almost six years old.”
A complicated expression surfaced on Wilfred’s face as he turned to look at Angeline, deliberatelyreminding her, “Six years old… She’s about as old as that child…”
