Her Precious Baby -
Chapter 126
Chapter 126
“This is the ward that Delroy Quast is in.”
Angeline looked through the window to study the environment of the bare ward. Delroy was lying on asingle bed with a ventilator and a wooden table beside him.
Angeline became ill at ease, and she frowned. “Does he not have anyone taking care of him?”
The nurse carefully scanned her surroundings to make sure no one was around before whispering,“Delroy has been in our hospital for four years. I heard he used to be a driver for a rich couple, butunfortunately, he was dragged into a strange car accident. The family he had worked for did not plan topay his medical bills, so Delroy’s family gave up on the thought of saving him.”
After hearing the nurse’s explanation, Angeline tightened her fists as fury manifested on her face.
How can Joseline do something like this? Is she even human?
Right then, a world-weary woman’s voice sounded out behind them. “What are you looking at?”
Then, they saw a plump woman with a headscarf and patched clothes with a flask in her handsstanding a distance away, watching them coldly.
When the nurse saw her, she shuddered and uttered, “Mrs. Quast, you’re here.”
The woman then walked over to her and studied their expressions. In a nervous tone, she asked, “Ismy Delroy in a bad state again?”
“He’s not. Don’t worry. However, this miss wants to have a talk with you,” the nurse gently told theplump woman.
At that, the plump woman turned to Angeline warily, confused by Angeline’s presence.
Reading the room, the nurse excused herself. Before she left, she whispered to Angeline, “She’sDelroy’s wife, and she’s a feisty one. Please have patience with her.”
“I got it. Thank you,” Angeline said with a smile, a wave of warmth seeping into her heart. She thenwatched the nurse take an elevator down.
There were few wards on the third floor, and there were few people around too. In fact, Angeline andDarlene were the only ones standing in the corridor, and the air between them was tense.
At the sight of Darlene’s wary gaze, Angeline passed her the fruit basket in her hands with a friendlysmile.
“Hello, Mrs. Quast. I’m here to visit Mr. Quast. I bought some fruits on my way here, and I hope youwon’t mind it.”
Nonetheless, Darlene did not take it right away as she stared at Angeline, baffled.
“What kind of relationship do you have with Delroy?”
Angeline was silent for a moment before solemnly answering, “I’m Angeline Sorelle, the seconddaughter of the Sorelles.”
Upon hearing the second half of Angeline’s speech, the middle-aged woman scowled and snarled,“How are you shameless enough to come all the way here? Do you think that the Sorelles haven’t hurtour family enough? Are you here to rub salt into our wounds?”
Angeline could understand her fury. After all, her family was ruined because of the accident, and Delroywas sent to a shabby hospital like this.
Hence, Angeline patiently explained, “Mrs. Quast, I think you’ve mistaken something. I’m notJoseline…”
“Shut up! All of you Sorelles are the same! You all have wicked hearts!” Darlene shrieked. She thengrabbed the broom by the doorway and swung it at Angeline. “Shoo! Why are you still here trying topretend to be some good fellow? Get out!”
Angeline never thought that she would be beaten up before she could even tell the other party the aimof her visit. As her arm turned red, she groaned in pain.
Right as Darlene was about to hit her with the broom again, Angeline caught the weapon in time. Nolonger holding herself back, she snapped, “I know you’re angry because your man’s hurt, but will yourfuss do anything? Can’t we sit down and have a proper talk instead?”
Darlene’s eyes reddened, and the fats on her face trembled in her rage.
In the next second, she bellowed, “Have you Sorelles ever bothered to have a proper talk with mewhen I came to your place to ask for the medical compensation? I know that your family and itsbusiness are prominent, but that doesn’t mean you can be a bully! How can you have me go down onmy knees to eat dog food? You never treated me like a human!”
Darlene was manic, but there was nothing Angeline could say about the things the Sorelle family madeDarlene suffer through. Guilt welled up in Angeline’s eyes.
What Joseline had done was inhumane, and she had brought the Sorelle family’s reputation to ruins.Yet, for the sake of bringing justice to her deceased parents, Angeline had no choice but to steelherself and clean up Joseline’s mess.
She swore she was going to settle the score with Joseline for all these things.
Once the plump woman was done cursing at Angeline, she fell to the ground weakly. She covered herface with both her hands and began bawling.
It was as if she was trying to release all the humiliation she had to suffer throughout the years throughher tears.
Her cries attracted the attention of the people nearby, and the patients in the wards came out to seewhat was happening. With Darlene’s accusations, more and more people appeared and beganberating Angeline.
“She looks like a normal person, but how can she do something as immoral as this? I knew it. Thericher a person is, the less humane they are. How terrible. They’d deserve it even if a car runs intothem.”
Angeline tolerated the first speaker’s accusations, but the second half of her sentence made a coldlook form in Angeline’s eyes.
Whipping her head toward the woman with cruel words, Angeline darkened her expression and grimlyasked, “Miss, did you see what happened, or were you involved in this? How dare you speak ofnonsense here? If I really am a rich person, aren’t you afraid that I’ll bring you to court for defamation?”
The people around her only dared to spit curses and judgment; none dared to actually go up againstAngeline.
The moment they heard her words, they trembled and quickly took steps back in silence.
Nevertheless, something more challenging presented itself. A clear voice of a youth sounded out.
“Mother. Mother, why are you on the floor? Are you okay?”
In the next second, a youth in a blue and white school uniform came upstairs with a few local policeofficers.
After helping Darlene to her feet, he stretched out his arm to shield his mother as if they were upagainst a monster.
“My father wouldn’t have become a vegetable if he hadn’t listened to you Sorelles. Are you now here tohurt my mother too?”
Angeline stared at him. “What?”
“I—” the boy started, but Darlene grabbed his arm.
With a pale face, she chided, “Don’t speak nonsense, my son. Officers, please take this woman awayquickly. She’s been causing trouble here.”
With that, the police officers stepped forward and cuffed Angeline.
“Miss, please come to the station with us.”
Angeline could not move after that. An anxious look crept onto her face, and she turned to look at theyouth’s panicking eyes.
The sight of that made her even more certain that the driver was involved in the accident.
Furthermore, with the expression the youth wore, it seemed like the youth knew something that wentbehind the scenes too.
Certain possibilities had popped into Angeline’s head, and all she needed to do now was to verify them.
When Angeline was taken away, she deliberately paused in her tracks beside the youth and said in alow voice, “The loss of that accident back then had been major, and the police are currently openingthe case again. If you turn out to be innocent in this, I’ll give you twice the medical compensation theSorelle family owed you.”
