Chapter 128

As Angeline listened to his words, for some reason, she suddenly felt a lump in her throat, and tearsinstantly welled up in her eyes.

“Are you crying?”

“I am not,” Angeline denied stubbornly. She turned her head away and wiped away her tears with hersleeve.

Seeing the confrontational look on Evander, she took a deep breath before explaining faintly, “OfficerLacroix has shown me all the information. I found that Delroy Quast was also a victim of the caraccident back then. No, scratch that. There’s a possibility that he was the perpetrator…”

She suddenly remembered that when she left the hospital, she inadvertently saw Darlene and AcaciusQuast acting suspiciously, so she was certain that they knew something.

“So you went all out at the considerable risk of hurting yourself? Don’t you replace this kind of actionfoolish?” Evander questioned.

His extremely blunt words made Angeline bow her head as mixed feelings surged within her.

“I didn’t expect Delroy’s wife to be so aggressive. I didn’t expect you’d come as well.”

“You’re the spokesperson of Starlight Jewelry. It was right for me to come and take a look to avoid yougetting yourself into another issue. Luck won’t be on your side all the time,” Evander said matter-of-factly, as though it was the whole truth.

But Angeline was no longer a newbie in the entertainment industry. She knew that this kind of matterwas usually handled by the public relations of an artist’s company. There was no way Evander shouldbe involved in this.

I guess he is truly worried about me since he came all the way here.

What Evander had done warmed Angeline’s heart. After calming herself down, she said, “Don’t youworry. I didn’t expose my identity, and I won’t cause scandals that affect the viewership…”

“Whatever.”

After saying that, Evander went to the policeman on duty and signed the paper before taking her by thearm, planning to head to the exit.

Angeline widened her eyes in surprise and stopped in her tracks. “Wait. Are you taking me home?” sheasked in a hushed tone.

“Duh. Are you planning to stay here?” Evander replied curtly, pointing out her intention.

Having been exposed, Angeline scratched her head and let out a sheepish chuckle. “Yes, I want to stayand wait for Delroy’s family’s reply. I have a hunch that they will definitely come to me. I can’t just goback empty-handed.”

Evander’s expression darkened considerably. “You can stay, but I hope you’ll take responsibility foryour own actions.”

With that, he turned on his heel, ready to leave.

Confusion flashed across Angeline’s eyes as she stared at his back, wondering why he was upsetagain.

Just as he was about to take a step away, she called out unthinkingly, “Mr. Golding, it’s dangerous totravel on mountain roads at night, and I heard that there would be heavy rain tonight as well. Why don’tyou stay for one night?”

“Where can I stay?”

“There’s a small inn in the county seat. It’s not as great as the ones in the cities, though.”

“No problem. I’ll ask Sylas to book it,” Evander agreed without hesitation.

Angeline was stunned. She couldn’t believe those words came from Evander. Shouldn’t he think aboutit for a longer time before agreeing to it?

After that, Sylas drove them to replace a lodging establishment not far away from the hospital with thecleanest environment. When they reached there, there was only one staff member at the door.

“I’d like to have four rooms, please.”

“I’m sorry. Because it’s now the peak tourist season, almost all the rooms are occupied. There are onlytwo VIP suites now.”

“Oh, no…” Angeline frowned, feeling a little caught off guard by the situation.

After all, she was the one who proposed that Evander should stay at the hotel. Now that the staffmember had told them that there were not enough rooms, she mumbled to herself, not knowing what tosay.

While Angeline was panicking, Sylas remained calm. He took the keycards and said to Evander, “Mr.Golding, you and Ms. Sorelle can have a room each, and I’ll stay with the driver in the car.”

Angeline shook her hands frantically. “No, we’re at the foot of the mountain. If it rains, the temperatureoutside will drop, and you might catch a cold.”

She didn’t want them to get sick because of her.

But at the same time, she didn’t know how to arrange accommodation for them with the currentsituation. I can’t share a room with a group of men. There’s no way Evander will want to stay with Sylas

and the driver, either.

While she was racking her brain to replace a solution, Evander took a keycard from Sylas and orderedexpressionlessly, “You two share a room.”

With that, he took Angeline’s arm and strode toward the elevator.

Due to the sudden tug, Angeline staggered forward, and she finally snapped back to her senses onlywhen the elevator doors closed.

She hurriedly rejected, “Mr. Golding, I don’t think this is appropriate. Why don’t I go out and replace anotherhotel?”

When the elevator doors opened again with a ding, her first reaction was to reach out and press thebutton to go down.

Just then, a large hand landed on her arm, stopping her. Without saying a word, Evander pulled hertoward the room.

The moment Angeline heard the sound of the door opening, her nervousness went through the roof asher heart thumped violently.

It goes without saying what a man and a woman will do in a hotel room.

She felt as though she had fallen into a tiger’s den.

The lights in the room hadn’t been turned on, so it was pitch black. Evander pressed her against thewall and trapped her in his arms.

“The first rule of Golding Group is to be responsible for every employee,” Evander stated in a righteoustone.

He leaned down, and soon, a husky voice rang beside her ear. “Or are you afraid?”

With that, the atmosphere turned amorous, causing Angeline to blush fiercely.

“I-I’m not.”

As soon as she said that, the lights in the room were turned on.

Temporarily blinded by the sudden light, she turned her face away as her eyes narrowed involuntarily.

Evander pinched her chin tightly with his slender fingers and looked at her rosy cheeks with a teasinglook on his face.

“Oh, are you not? Why are you blushing, then?” he drawled.

Stumped by his questioning, Angeline kept mum and broke free from his embrace to distance herselffrom him.

After she opened the window to let in some fresh air, the oppressive atmosphere in the room wasgradually dispelled.

“It’s so stuffy inside. I can’t handle the heat. You should go take a shower since you have to go back toHallsbay early tomorrow morning,” Angeline said.

Fortunately, Evander stopped teasing her and entered the bathroom.

Soon, the sound of running water came from the bathroom. The bathroom door was made of frostedglass, so Evander’s attractive body could be vaguely seen.

As Angeline waited for him to come out, she sat on the bed and fiddled with the corner of her clothes, feeling nervous for no reason.

She had no clue what Evander would do next, nor did she know how to handle it.

After sitting there for twenty minutes, she heard the door to the bathroom open, and Evander steppedout with a towel wrapped around his lower body.
