Her Precious Baby
Chapter 143

Chapter 143

Evander could not help but smile when he saw her concealing her emotions. Hence, he gracefully cut apiece of his steak and placed it in front of her. As if on purpose, he said, “Eat more and replenish yourenergy. We’ll continue tonight.”

Khaff! Khaff! Angeline choked on her food, and her face flushed red.

Evander was frightfully skilled at flirting. She would have turned weak at his words if she had not beengood at keeping herself composed.

I’d better visit the Golding residence less in the future. Otherwise, I’d be taken advantage of withouteven realizing it.

After lunch, Evander had to return to the office for a meeting. Not wanting to stay at the Goldingresidence, Angeline went upstairs to get her bag so she could leave with his car.

Before leaving, she applied several layers of liquid foundation on her neck. Still, the hickey was stillvisible.

Seeing Evander waiting for her by the room door brought her anger to new heights.

“Look at what you’ve done. I’m going to make you pay next time.”

Angeline was stunned when she heard the words that slipped out of her mouth. She realized she wasbehaving bolder in front of him.

Just as she was thinking about that, a stern female voice rang out.

“I’d like to see what you’ll do to make my grandson pay.”

Angeline frowned as she realized the sudden change in atmosphere. Meanwhile, Francesca stoodbeside the couch downstairs, looking as if she was ready to confront a formidable enemy.

Without any hesitation, Angeline went downstairs with Evander.

Sitting on the living room couch was Valerie. Although all her hair had turned white, she still lookedenergetic, and her eyes were sharp as ever, as if they could see through a person’s heart.

“Hello, Grandma. Why are you here?” asked Evander in a deep voice, clearly surprised by her visit.

Valerie gave a derisive snort. “How could I not come over when you made such a major decisionbehind my back?”

When Evander heard that, his expression darkened. Fixing his gaze on the coffee cup on the table, heuttered firmly, “If you’re here to change my mind, then I’d advise you to give up on the idea. I won’tmarry Olivine.”

“You’ve lost your mind!” His response infuriated Valerie. She pointed at Angeline, questioning, “Are youplanning to cut ties with me over this mannerless young lady?”

Valerie’s voice was so loud that it gave Francesca a fright. The latter shuddered and fell to her knees.

Nonetheless, Evander remained silent and indifferent, despite being threatened by Valerie. Suddenly, the atmosphere in the room became tense.

Seeing that, Angeline could not help but voice out, “Grandma, perhaps we can talk this out—”

Before she could even finish her words, Valerie glared at her and slammed her walking stick hard ontothe ground, yelling fiercely, “Get onto your knees!”

It annoyed Angeline to hear those words. Although Valerie was of high status, she had no right to makeAngeline get to her knees when they were not related by blood.

Hence, Angeline stood still without budging an inch while she thought of a suitable response.

Seeing Angeline not doing as told, Valerie mocked furiously, “Take a good look, Evander. This is thewoman you’ve chosen. She didn’t even greet me. Hmph. How could she not know such simplemanners? Besides, I heard this woman did something humiliating five years ago. She’s an unwanteddaughter of the Sorelle family. How great can a woman from the entertainment industry be? She’s noteven worth being compared with Olivine.”

Every word that came from Valerie’s mouth was like a sharp dagger that stabbed into Angeline’s heart.

Especially when Valerie compared Angeline to Olivine. For a moment, Angeline felt as if she wasabsolutely worthless.

Suddenly, she brushed her fringe aside and said calmly, “So, you think I seduced Evander? Well, I’mafraid you’re wrong about that. He was the one who pursued me first. I didn’t even want to accept himback then.”

She was clearly saying that to humiliate the Golding family. When Valerie heard that, her gazedarkened, and she scoffed, “Are you feeling proud of yourself, Ms. Sorelle? You’re just a new toy forhim.”

“I trust Evander,” Angeline responded determinedly, fixing her gaze on Evander’s face. Turning toValerie, she retorted, “You, on the other hand, keep saying you love your grandson, but you always usehim as a tool for marriage connections. You’re even willing to coerce him just to bring benefits to thecompany. Have you ever thought about his feelings?”

Hearing that, Evander smiled and gave Angeline a look of approval.

He had been keeping quiet because he wanted to witness Angeline’s capabilities. After all, she wasgoing to be the future daughter-in-law of the Golding family, and looks were not all that mattered.

So far, she had not let him down.

The way Angeline talked back upset Valerie even more, and the latter warned, “Listen here, Evander.I’m never letting this woman marry into our family as long as I’m alive. Ugh! How insolent!”

Knowing he had to make things clear that day, Evander approached Valerie and advised calmly,“Grandma, it’s not good to be angry all the time when you’re at such an age.”

Immediately after that, he leaned closer and whispered something into her ear.

Suddenly, Valerie’s expression relaxed, and she glanced at Angeline in shock, asking, “Really? She’sthe granddaughter of Jeffery Chandler?”

“Yes,” Evander answered calmly.

This time, Valerie finally calmed down. She then got to her feet with the help of her walking stick andscrutinized Angeline with a conflicted expression.

After a moment of silence, Valerie let out a heavy sigh and left the house in silence with thehousekeeper, who had been standing by the door.

Meanwhile, Angeline watched them leave, looking utterly confused.

Although she was Jeffery’s granddaughter, they barely interacted with each other. However, the look onValerie’s face seemed to say she had known Jeffery for many years.

What kind of relationship do they have that made her change her attitude suddenly?

At that thought, Angeline’s inquisitive gaze fell on Evander. He must know something.

Hurriedly, Angeline sat on the couch with curiosity written all over her face. “What did you say to yourgrandma just now? What relationship does my granddad have with your family?”

Evander pulled her into his embrace and stroked her brows, saying with a deep voice, “The Goldingfamily has no relationship with your granddad. It’s just that I heard my grandpa saying he was in thesame troop as your granddad when he was younger. As for the details, I’m not too sure.”

Angeline’s brows furrowed slightly as she finally understood the situation.

So, they’re old friends. They seem to have a deep relationship, but why haven’t they met up in so manyyears?

Regardless, that was the end of the conversation.

In the afternoon, Evander needed to go to the company to attend a meeting, so he dropped Angelineoff at a high-end mall nearby.

Instead of asking her objective for going there, he pulled a black and gold card out of his wallet andhanded it to her.

“The money in here should be enough for you to buy the entire mall,” he remarked.

The sight of the card shocked Angeline, and she hurriedly waved her hand in dismissal. “No way. Ican’t accept such an expensive gift.”

Evander scowled at her reaction. “Take it. It’ll make things easier when you take Floretta out in thefuture. That rascal wants everything she sees.”
