Her Precious Baby -
Chapter 150
Chapter 150
Of all things, why did he have to bring up what happened in the bar?
Angeline’s expression darkened. Her eyes fixed on Evander turned even colder.
“So you see me as some sort of promiscuous lady who would go and hook up with any guy?”
Evander didn’t reply to her, but the way he looked at her had told her his answer.
At that instant, it was as if someone had dumped a bucket of cold water on her; she could no longerfeel any trace of warmth.
“Since you don’t trust me so much, what’s the point of looking for me then? Wouldn’t it be better topretend like nothing had happened that night?”
“Say it again,” he enunciated, tightening his grip on her arm all of a sudden.
Breaking out into a cold sweat, Angeline exclaimed in pain as if she had been clipped by a pair ofpliers.
“Angeline, stop playing tricks in front of me.”
His voice was so cold that every word he said stung her eardrums. Angeline gritted her teeth, trying herbest to suppress the humiliation deep down inside her. Shoving Evander away, she turned around andwalked out of the room.
Bang!
With a loud thud, Angeline left the house.
Staring at her receding figure, Evander was a bit worried. After regaining his composure, he couldn’thelp but start reflecting on his behavior earlier. Indeed, he went overboard.
However, whenever he thought of the scene where Angeline and Hanson were together, he justcouldn’t control his emotions.
Angeline ran out, driven by anger. But she somehow regretted her action as soon as she came out.
It was close to three in the morning. Though there were street lamps in the residential area, there wasbarely anyone strolling around in the middle of the night. On top of that, occasional swishes from thegrasses were increasing the surrounding creepiness.
Angeline wanted to back-pedal. She would glance to the back every time after walking several steps. However, she saw nothing but disappointment.
At the sight of that, Angeline crossed her arms over her chest, feeling wronged. A wave of sorenesssurged up in her heart.
What a heartless man! Is he not worried at all that I ran out alone?
Angeline came out in a rush. She didn’t have the time to change her footwear. She was still wearing theslippers where her toes were exposed. Every time the wind brushed past her, her toes would flush fromthe coldness.
Walking along the road, she passed by a twenty-four-hour convenience store. The aromatic smell ofhot food wafted to her nose.
As she sniffed with force, her stomach started to growl.
In truth, she had been feeling hungry for a long time tonight. But because she was too busy, she forgotto fill up her stomach. Hence, it wasn’t surprising for her stomach to respond to the presence of food.
However, she didn’t bring her bag along when she left the house. Her phone was inside. Rummagingthrough her pocket, she realized the money with her wasn’t even enough to buy a skewer!
Because of the chill lingering in the night as well as her hunger level, Angeline, who had always been acollected person, finally lost her composure at that moment.
Layers of fury welled up in her heart. She was so angry that she kicked the stone barrier beside her.
“Ouch!” she screamed.
Crouching down, she cupped her aching foot. It was so painful that her eyes misted over.
How can I forget that I’m still wearing my slippers?
Angeline sat on the road. Thankfully, not many people were around in the dead of night. Otherwise, things might get troublesome if they recognized her.
The more she thought about it, the more aggrieved she became. That’s my place, after all. Why did Irun out and let Evander sleep there?
At the thought of this, Angeline immediately regained her fighting spirit. Collecting herself, she stoodback up and limped toward her house.
Walking along the side of the road, she felt even more desolated as she listened to the whistles of thewind and ear-piercing vrooms of the cars.
When she was near the park, she inadvertently turned her head around and saw a drunk, staggeringman.
The unamiability on him sent shudders down her spine. Angeline sped up her pace.
Staring at the lake located in the park that wasn’t far away, Angeline had an uneasy feeling.
Perhaps she was overthinking things. She remembered the downstairs old lady telling her that thecorpse of a woman, who was murdered after being sexually assaulted, was dragged out from that lake
not long ago.
The drunken man at the back suddenly raised his voice and asked, “Huh? Why do I feel that you look alot like that celebrity… Angeline Sorelle?”
The moment Angeline heard her name, she was scared out of her wits that color drained from her face.Even her heart was hammering wildly against her chest.
She gradually quickened her pace. But because of the increasing uneasiness in her, she started to runinstead.
“Hey, stop! Why are you running?”
The man began to run too. Soon, he was close behind her.
“Help!” Angeline shouted.
Right then, the man knew it was her. “Oh, my! It’s really that celebrity. Don’t run!” His voice was filledwith excitement.
Panting, Angeline was slowly losing her physical strength. Just when she thought she had reached adead end, she ran into a tough and strong chest.
“Ah!”
Feeling dizzy after the sudden impact, Angeline outstretched her hand and rubbed her nose.
All of a sudden, someone caught her body. Angeline sensed danger and aggressively resisted theforce.
“Let me go…”
“Angeline, it’s me. Calm down.”
The deep, magnetic male voice rang in her ears, gradually easing her anxiety.
When Angeline lifted her head and saw the concerned expression on Evander’s face, tears pooled inher eyes. She spilled out all the grievances in her heart.
“Why did you leave me out here alone? I don’t even have my phone with me. Aren’t you afraid thatsomething bad might happen to me?” she scolded.
Angeline was emotional. Stretching out her hand, she hit his chest hard.
She was too nervous earlier. Now that she finally found a place to vent, she didn’t realize how spoiledshe was acting.
Evander let her have her way. Holding her face, he rubbed away her tracks of tears with his slenderfingers. In his eyes, she was all he could see.
“I’m sorry. It’s my fault.”
After she heard his reply, tears once again welled up in her eyes. Right then, she thought of somethingand parted her lips in a hurry.
“Oh, ya! There’s a drunken man. He kept chasing after me just now.”
“No.”
“Impossible. He’s right behind…”
When Angeline turned her head around, she realized the man was gone. It was as if whateverhappened just now was nothing but a hallucination. At that instant, she once again felt goosebumps all
over her body.
Tugging at Evander’s sleeve, she said anxiously, “No. There was someone just now…”
“I know.” He stroked her stray strands of fringe and uttered in a gentle voice, “I saw it. That was adrunkard. He fled the moment he saw someone coming.”
Angeline let out a sigh of relief after listening to what he said. Pressing her hands on her knees, shecould feel her heart leaping into her throat.
At that moment, Evander draped the coat he brought over her body and held her hand tightly.
Sensing the warmth at the back of his hand, Angeline raised her head. Under the neon light, she sawthe distinct features of his facial contour.
Wrapping her icy hand with his, he gazed deeply into her eyes. “Let’s go home.”
Interlocking his fingers with hers, he slowly locked them tight.
When Angeline looked up at him, her eyes turned red, glistening the tears seeping in from the corners.
“Sure.”
