Her Revenge Contract -
Chapter 111
Katherine's
POV
It's been a month since I was cleared of any involvement in any criminal activity or in the money laundering scandal. Greyson and I were sitting in the courtroom, listening to the outcome of Rose and Erika's trial. The court officer, under the instruction of the judge, handed Rose and Erika over to the police for further investigation.
In the last couple of weeks, we were in and out of court listening to all the evidence against Rose and Erika.
Some of the testimonials were brutal, some were heartbreaking, and others were horrific.
More and more people and even pack members came forward.
Greyson suggested that I take the stand as well and tell my side of the story. I was a bit hesitant about that, but in the end, I gave in and testified.
There wasn't a dry eye in court that day, except for Rose, who just glared at me.
The court door opened, revealing the judge, and my attention moved to him as he took his seat. His facial expression was blank, and I couldn't guess what he had decided.
"After carefully reviewing all the evidence provided," the judge said, looking up at Rose and Erika. I sat up straight, my full attention focused on the judge. This was it.
I turned my head toward the two accused women standing at the defense table.
Both women looked depressed, as if they had given up on life.
Erika dropped her head as the judge read through the evidence.
Rose, on the other hand, pinned my gaze and was hatefully glaring at me.
"The court hereby sentences Ms. Rosemary King and Ms. Erika King to life imprisonment for their part in the murder of Andrew and Lindia King."
Upon hearing the judge's words, my heart leaped out of my chest out of excitement!
Thank the Goddess!
"That's at least twenty-five years," Greyson whispered to me.
"In regards to the money laundering activities," the judge looked at Rose. "Ms. Rosemary King, you are found guilty, and the court sentences you to another ten years."
I suddenly wondered if the judge would take the blackmailing into account, and just as the thoughts passed through my mind, he continued.
"Ms. Erika King," he said sternly, "you are such a young lady, and you still have your whole life in front of you, but after carefully looking at the evidence, it seems like you are an endangerment to the community. For your involvement in blackmailing, bribery, and vandalism, I sentence you to an extended seven-year imprisonment."
Gasps from the public sounded around us; they were surprised at the harsh sentencing both women received.
Who would have thought they would be punished this hard?
"At least it wasn't the wolf council who did the trial," Kia said seriously.
"True, they are getting it easy," I agreed.
If the trial had been done by the Wolf Council, they would have been executed, but for some reason, Erika made sure it went through the human court. Erika's gaze snapped toward me the second she heard her sentence, and her eyes turned black out of anger! Her wolf must be on the surface. Will she dare shift and attack me here? She only tried once to fight me in wolf form, but she lost that fight.
"You!" She yelled, pointing her finger at me, "You will not get away with this! I hate you! I hate you with everything inside me, Katherine King!" The court officer grabbed hold of Erika and dragged her out of the court, while Rose just looked at the judge with hateful eyes.
Will Rose try to escape? Or will Rose replace a way to appeal her sentence?
"Furthermore," the judge continued, "your sentence will be carried out in Cowen Country Jail."
My gaze snapped toward Greyson, and he nodded, confirming my suspicion.
The judge must know that werewolves exist. He must know what creatures Rose and Erika are. "How?" I whispered to Greyson.
"His daughter is mated to one of us," he said, winking.
My gaze slowly moved to where Xavier sat, and he gave me a quick smile with a nod of the head.
After the court proceedings, I left for home. I have been living in the King's residence since the day Rose and Erika were taken into custody.
I sighed when I opened the door and walked in.
Julia must have heard me enter and hurried to my side.
"Congratulations, Ms. King," the old woman said, smiling. She kept her promise and was one of the many pack members who gave evidence against them.
"No, Lidia," I stopped her as she took my hands in hers, "thank you for remembering the critical evidence. If it wasn't for you, Rose and Erika wouldn't have received such long and harsh sentences."
"It's all well," she said, letting go of my hands. "I am glad you are back and they are not here anymore."
I smiled at the old woman and headed to my room.
I quickly changed into more comfortable clothing and headed down to the cemetery.
I wiped my nose as I broke down in sobs standing next to my parents' tombstones.
I didn't say anything; I knew they would understand what I felt. They could hear my heart, and they knew I missed them so much.
A new wave of sobs vibrated through my body. I have completed my task, yet my heart feels stone cold, and my being is empty, as if I have lost my soul and way.
"Why do I feel so alone?" I whispered through sobs.
I wiped the tears from my face and placed the daisies I brought with me on my parent's grave.
My cell phone rang in my pocket, and I retrieved it without looking at the caller ID.
"Hallo?" I said, trying to get my sobs under control.
"Congratulations on succeeding in getting your revenge," Xavier said chirpily. "Meet me for dinner at Carlo's at 8 p.m."
Before I could say anything, Xavier dropped the call.
I sighed; if it weren't for Xavier, I wouldn't have been able to submit the audio files where John called Nathan to have me kidnapped and murdered.
Nathan requested that John have Erika for a night as payment, which explained why the cabin smelled of Erika.
I shivered at the thought that she was willing to sell herself to get rid of me. What kind of person does that?
My thoughts rushed back to an audio file about Rose asking for liquid silver and wolfbane from Nathan days before my parents were murdered.
Greyson didn't want to tell me where the information came from or how he obtained it, but I guess Xavier went overboard in replaceing it.
The thought of Xavier saddened me. I thought we had something special growing between us, but now it seemed like he was just acting nice, and at one stage it felt like everything was just about the shares. I still have a pinch of hope that Xavier still loves and cares for me.
My mind raced back to our date at Carlo's restaurant. It is still one of my favorite memories of us.
I hesitated for a moment, but decided it would be a good idea to go and see him anyway. I wanted to give him the transfer of shares paperwork.
I headed home, took a long, deserving bath, and washed my swollen face, then got ready.
Greyson brought the SUV around, and he drove me to the restaurant.
Xavier waited for me outside, and as soon as Greyson stopped the car, he came and opened the passenger door for me.
My gaze roamed over his perfect features, and my insides turned to mush. I haven't seen Xavier for a while, and I have missed him so much.
Kia howled at seeing our mate and wanted me to go to him.
Xavier took my hand in his, lifted it to his lips, and pecked the back of my hand.
I gasped as the same familiar tingles ran down my arm toward my core, soaking my pants in the process.
Kia didn't hesitate and sent me lustful images; she wanted Xavier to mate with us. She wanted to feel her mate inside us.
I internally sighed and shook my head at Kia. It was painful enough that he didn't want to talk to me, but it was worse that he didn't want to touch me.
"I am glad you came," Xavier whispered in my ear as his arm snaked around my waist. "We have something to celebrate!"
I nodded and followed Xavier through the restaurant, down a narrow hall, and he unlocked a door and opened it, revealing a small private area.
I was surprised at how beautifully it was decorated, and it was secluded from any praying eyes.
"Happy birthday!" Xavier said, looking at me. The tenderness in his voice sent shivers down my spine and warmed my heart.
Xavier reached out, taking my hand in his, and Carlo came rushing in with a cake with a candle on it.
"It's not my birthday," I whispered to Xavier, and I was sure he knew that.
A small smile played on Xavier's lips, and my heart throbbed out of my chest.
The lighting in the area was very dim, making Xavier's profile very mysterious, yet I couldn't miss the tenderness in his eyes.
"I know," he said, holding my gaze, "but we never got to celebrate your birthday, and..."
Xavier was hesitant, and I knew that this wasn't because we never fully celebrated my birthday. This was about something else. "And?" I said, replaceing Xavier's gaze.
"Today is exactly a year ago. You woke up and plotted your revenge."
