Her Revenge Contract -
Chapter 116
Katherine's
POV
"Kate is me," Xavier's familiar, husky voice said from outside the door. His voice was soft, sounding almost exhausted. "I brought you something to eat." "I'm not hungry," I said, but yet my stomach growled uncontrollably.
Xavier chuckled from the other side of the door. He must have heard that. F*ck, I couldn't even lie about something so small; even my body gave me away. "Well, you might not be, but your stomach says otherwise," he said.
I blushed, embarrassed, and slowly opened the door.
Xavier stood at the door with a soft, sad smile. His eyes were full of tiredness, but he pretended not to be afraid. His slightly pale lips and face made me feel a little worried, but I brushed off the thought that the trip here had tired him out.
"Eat something, then get some sleep; I will send you some snacks later," Xavier said. "I promise you, I won't bother you."
Xavier walked into the room and placed a brown bag on the table, then left without saying another word.
I sighed as I picked up the brown bag of food Xavier brought me and hesitated to open it.
My mind raced to the old couple on the plane.
Was I also a thorn in Xavier's side? Yet he didn't mind?
My stomach suddenly growled even louder, knowing that I had food so close by, and I gave in and opened the bag of food.
I was surprised at what the brown bag held and hungrily dug in.
It was still raining outside, and I felt a bit cold. Enjoy this chapter for free and stay updated with the latest version on Job_ni-b.c-om. Don't miss out, visit it now. I was sitting on the window stilt, overlooking the city below. For a second, I imagined Xavier being with me now, his arms tightly wrapped around me.
Kia whimpered in my mind; she wanted her mate. She wanted to be close to Ray.
Yet again, I ignored her request.
Xavier said that he would come see me later and bring me some snacks, but it was already past 9 p.m., so I guess he must have forgotten.
I got up, still feeling cold, and decided to go down to the front desk and ask them if they could arrange an extra blanket for me.
As soon as I opened the door, Greyson passed my room in a hurry. He didn't even notice me standing in the doorway. Did something happen to Xavier?
Was he okay? It suddenly occurred to me that I didn't even know in which room Xavier was staying.
I rushed down to the reception area and found a young, dark-headed man at reception.
"Excuse me," I said, getting the young man's attention, "could you possibly tell me in which room Mr. Black is staying?"
The young man's eyes grew wide, and he looked a bit anxious and worried, yet he gave me Xavier's room number.
That was odd, I thought.
What was up with him?
Did he know something?
I was now certain that something must have happened.
I easily found Xavier's room; it was, ironically, on the same floor as mine.
I stood at the door and hesitated, but I couldn't get myself to knock.
Even if Xavier was in trouble, he had so many people around him to take care of him. Even if I went in and saw what was going on, I wouldn't be of much assistance, and I wasn't ready to accept the change. A few good words from Xavier didn't change anything; he still lied to me. He still hurt me. He still kept secrets from me. He broke my trust in him!
I slowly retreated to my room, only to hear the sound of hurried footsteps in the corridor rushing toward Xavier's room.
I opened the door just a little, seeing a few warriors dressed in black hurriedly opening a door for a woman.
My heart sank as I saw the side of the woman's face. She was a beautiful blond-headed woman with full rose-colored lips and a beautiful figure. She looked quite sexy in her outfit. Is she a call girl?
I shiver at the thought.
The woman quickly looked over her shoulder, as if she were afraid that someone had seen her, then quickly entered Xavier's room and closed the door behind her.
My heart sank. How could I be so stupid?
How could I fall for his words?
I should have known that a man like Xavier would never give up an entire forest to be with one woman alone.
I laughed through the tears, feeling the dull pain in her heart.
I cried myself to sleep, and the thunder outside in the rain gradually became louder. Lightning flashed, and I tossed and turned on the bed, unable to sleep. Why would Xavier follow me here and then have another woman go to him?
Although Xavier and I were on the same floor, our rooms were far apart from each other, and yet the entire corridor had been silent since the woman entered.
My mind raced to the nervous looks of the front desk staff when I asked for Xavier's room number.
Was the young man worried that I would replace out about the other woman?
It was already early in the morning when I went down to the front desk, hoping they could have something for my headache; instead, they called a doctor to attend to me. The doctor came to my room soon after and did a thorough examination.
I sighed when he handed me a bunch of medicine for my cold.
"Just great!" I thought this was all because I walked in the pouring rain, being stubborn.
Kia gave me a worried look, yet she knew what I was planning and refused to heal me. She was doing this on purpose to keep me here.
"Be sure to get some rest," the doctor said before he left. "The injection I gave you is full of antibiotics. It should help you and make you feel better by tomorrow." "Thank you," I said as I followed the doctor to the door of my room.
I saw the woman leave Xavier's room, and the doctor stopped and started a conversation with the woman.
Did he know her?
"How is he?" The doctor whispered to the woman, hoping to keep the conversation private.
"He is one hot specimen," she said, licking her lips. "I am trying to do my best to assist him in his needs."
