Her Revenge Contract
Chapter 119

Katherine's

POV

I sat by Xavier's bedside and begged the Goddess to save him.

The doctor ignored me, seemingly used to seeing such scenes, and showed no mercy.

"Stay away from him," she said coldly; "he has no control over his body or mind. You might get hurt if his wolf takes over and shifts. He will not recognize you!"

I was startled at her words and began to panic; it made me even more unwilling to let go of Xavier's hand.

"Is there any way to cure him?" I asked hopefully, with tears in my eyes. "I am willing to do anything!"

The doctor looked at me with even more disgust.

"If you have a cure for silver poisoning in your pocket, yes," she said, waiting for a response. When I shook my head, unable to say anything, she continued. "Then it's best you stay out of my way and let me try and help save him." The doctor gave me one more angry glare, and I got up and exited through the plastic curtains.

I stood behind the anti-infection curtain and watched the doctor inside as she wiped her hands with sanitizer.

The warrior seemed to be used to all of this and stared into the distance without any emotion on his face.

After a while, the doctor came out from behind the curtain, glanced at me, and turned to organize her medicine bag.

"Today's course of treatment is complete," she said, turning to the warrior. "Now remember to give him the correct dose of medicine on time. Do not remove the IV from his hand. When the bag is empty, call me; I will come and replace it myself." The warrior nodded and went to Xavier's side.

The doctor removed her white coat, then subconsciously remembered something else and put it on again, then muffled under her breath for only me to hear.

"Why do handsome men always marry the most uncaring women?" She sneered bitterly. "This has nothing to do with me; I am only a doctor, and I have to obey the patient's orders to dress myself up like someone else. But I just can't understand. I sometimes wish that I had some luck meeting such a good man. Life is really so unfair!"

Her hateful words were like a silver dagger to my heart, yet they explained a lot. Now I knew why everyone was acting so weirdly around me.

"Don't beat yourself up," the warrior said, looking at the doctor as she exited the room. "Alpha Xavier did what he thought was best."

A knock on the door sounded, and I turned my head in a daze. Everything was too much to absorb at that moment.

Greyson entered holding a brown bag in his hand and almost dropped the bag when he saw me.

"Kate," he gasped, startled, and glared at the warrior next to me, "what are you doing here?"

My gaze moved to where Xavier lay behind the plastic curtain. I could hear the beeping sound of the machinery, even the oxygen machine forcing air into his lungs.

"I should be asking you questions, Greyson," I growled under my breath. "When were you planning to inform me that your Alpha was critically ill? When he's dead?" I snapped.

Greyson was at a loss for words for a moment and glared pissed at the warrior who let me in.

The warrior, in return, lifted his hand in a defensive motion and gestured to me.

"He didn't have a choice," I snapped, "so don't you dare take it out on him."

I sighed and walked back to where Xavier was lying on the bed.

"Luna, please," the warrior begged, "you heard the doctor; please keep a safe distance."

Greyson walked closer, his gaze on Xavier's face.

"The doctor said that the chance he would survive and heal was slim," Greyson said, his eyes becoming sad. "Before Alpha Xavier passed out, he instructed us not to tell you. He was worried that you would freak out and blame yourself for this. I suggest you return to your room. I will let you know if there are any changes."

I ignored Greyson's request, holding tightly onto Xavier's hands.

I couldn't let go; I needed him just as much as he needed me.

The clock on the wall added tension, and with every tick, it made me more anxious.

I watched as the warriors changed shifts and how they came and changed the bottle of medicine.

Yet there was no change at all.

"Luna," the warrior called as he handed me a freshly brewed cup of coffee, "you have been guarding Alpha Xavier's the whole night; please go and get some rest. You look exhausted. How would I explain this to Alpha Xavier if he woke up now and saw you like this?" I looked at Xavier's gray face and felt a dull pain in my heart. I pursed my lips stubbornly and shook my head.

"I am fine," I said stubbornly. "I want to stay by his side."

Greyson walked closer, looking a bit embarrassed and uncomfortable.

"Kate," he said, and he hesitated, "you should really go and get some rest."

I wanted to argue, but Greyson stopped me.

"We need to give Alpha Xavier a bath, and it means that we will have to loosen his arms and legs. It can be very dangerous, and I can't afford for you to get hurt. Please understand. This is for your own good."

"Okay." I gave in; I didn't want to delay Xavier's bath. He was soaking wet, and I tried to keep him dry over the night. Maybe he would feel better after they wiped him off.

Maybe I will feel better after I freshen up as well.

Walking into my room, I noticed a dining cart standing there.

I lifted the cloche, replaceing all kinds of my favorite foods.

Xavier must have ordered these in advance before he passed out.

My heart ached.

I deliberately ignored Xavier and went out to piss him off, only to make him sicker.

I sighed, blaming myself for my carelessness. How could I be so stupid?

Kia whimpered in my mind; she wanted to go back to Xavier's side. She has been trying all night to connect with Ray, but without any success.

I took a quick shower, feeling better, yet when I lay on my bed, sleep never came. All I could think about was Xavier. Over and over again, when the six a.m. alarm clock sounded next to my bed, I rushed toward Xavier's room.

I was surprised that the weather seemed to be much better today, and the hallway was already busy with many tourists making their way down to the dining area before leaving to explore. Soon the hotel was dead silent, and the beeping of Xavier's breathing machine could be heard down the hall.

Greyson found me waiting at the door and let me in. Earlier, a warrior came to inform me that Xavier had lost control over Ray and that they needed to restrain him. Two warriors were hurt in the process, but the doctor had already attended to them. I sighed as I took my seat in the dining area. I could see Xavier from there, and my gaze moved over his handsome face. He looked much better today.

"He is reacting to your presence," Greyson said, and I turned my gaze toward him.

"How?" I asked.

"As soon as you left, his eyes flew open; he asked for you, and then he fought against the straps."

"He managed to get loose?" I asked.

Greyson nodded with a sideways smile. "It was the first proper reaction we've gotten in days."

"But someone got hurt?" I said.

"Yes," he said, "but when I told him that you would be here soon, he calmed down, and as soon as you came to the door, the heart monitor slowed as well."

Moments later, the doctor walked in, disguised as a call girl again. I rolled my eyes at her. She should seriously drop the act. I already knew the secret behind the clothing.

Yet this time the doctor's eyes were softer when she saw me sitting and waiting to go to Xavier.

"Are you still guarding?" She asked, with a teasing smile, "It seems like you do have a heart after all and are not so hypocritical after all."

I internally rolled my eyes at the doctor's sarcastic tone.

I knew that the only reason the doctor was defending Xavier was because of his gorgeous looks, but she didn't know about his temper, his dark side, or his hopes and dreams that were hiding behind that perfectly crafted face and body. I was not angry at her; most people reacted to Xavier that way. I thanked her instead.

That took her by surprise, and she slightly nodded.

"Please take good care of my mate," I said, "he is all I have left in this world."

The doctor froze for a moment while processing my words; she must have sensed the cold truth behind them.

She didn't say anything and walked to the door, knocked, and entered. A few minutes later, she returned.

"Your mate will be fine," she said. "Whatever you did last night helped."

"Thank you," I said softly, heaving a sigh of relief.

The doctor turned around and left without saying anything.

I walked to Xavier's bedside and took his hand in mine. I softly rubbed my fingers over his arm, hearing his breathing deepen.

My gaze moved to the warriors standing around; they seemed to be more relaxed. Greyson smiled at me and gave me a quick nod of the head, then disappeared out of the room.

My eyes became heavy, and I fought against sleep. I stubbornly refused to give in to sleep.

Images of me and Xavier flashed before my eyes, and my mind slowly drifted into sleep.
