Her Revenge Contract -
Chapter 127
Katherine's
POV
I instantly forgot about the incident with Alpha William just as soon as it happened, but the next morning when I walked into my office, the tall, handsome man was waiting in my reception area. I was a bit startled at first, which ended in annoyance.
"Why are you here?" I asked bluntly; I couldn't pretend to be polite.
William ignored my rudeness and handed me a contractor instead.
"Ms. King, please don't get me wrong; this time I came to you to seek help on a project," he said, and he followed me to my office. "Please take a look."
I opened the file and scanned through the first few pages of the contract. Both the quotation and the project were compatible with the King Group, but I had some serious doubts.
"The MDM Group's power is unquestionable," I said seriously. "Wouldn't it be visible to get help from your local city's enterprises for logistics purposes? I also would like to know if, besides the King Group, there are several preferred businesses in this city that can help. Quite a few, in fact. Why do you want to partner with us?"
William glanced at me with great interest and smiled slightly.
"Firstly, the King Group has a good reputation, so it would be my first choice. Secondly, seeking help from the King Group is equivalent to asking for assistance from Black Umbrella Enterprises. Using the two companies together is like killing two birds with one stone. And thirdly..."
William paused for a moment; his eyes sparkled with enthusiasm.
"It would be an honor to be your partner."
As soon as the words escaped his lips, anger burned down my veins, and I shook visibly. I threw the contract back at him and jumped to my feet.
"I'm sorry, Alpha William," I said coldly. "Although the King Group is not as strong as before, I will not allow you to openly insult us. You may leave. I will not help you with this project."
I stalked directly to the door, threw it open, and gestured for him to leave.
William was surprised at my sudden outburst.
"Ms. King, don't be angry," he said as he got to his feet. "I apologize for offending you, but that wasn't how I intended it to sound!"
William's face turned serious.
"I seriously want to join forces with you on this project," he said. "After all, MDM Group's experience in parts processing is lacking; the other companies are good, but they lack experience. I am looking for a well-established and well-reputed company, and the King Group is the perfect match for this."
I was still angry at him, but seeing that someone like Alpha William was willing to bow his head and apologize, I knew that it did not come naturally.
"Since it is about business only, I hope you are willing to take this seriously," I said, closing the office door behind me and picking up the contract again.
William immediately relaxed when I sat down behind my desk.
"Give me some background on the project," I asked, sitting back.
"This contract in your hands is for a company in Europe," William said, "and the customer is looking for parts with certain specifications. No one around here has the experience of manufacturing these kinds of parts and handling overseas orders as King Group does."
I nodded in understanding, and William continued.
"In terms of delivery," William said, looking at his hands, "you can use the relationship between King and Umbrella to make shipping go more smoothly at the port. It will save you a lot of time and unnecessary paperwork." William stared at me while reading through the contract.
I checked the details once more and mentally calculated the profit, but I just couldn't shake the unnerving feeling.
No matter how I look at this project, the Group will make a steady profit.
What worried me was that Xavier would not be very fond of the idea of working together with MDM and that it might cause unnecessary strain between us.
"Ms. King, even if I don't give you the specific amount of profit you could make," William said, replaceing my gaze, "it still gives you a rough idea."
I kept quiet, thinking.
I knew the actual reason why William came to me instead of Xavier was that he was hoping that by accepting the contract, he would be able to get closer to me and slowly build a personal relationship with me. But I was already in a relationship with Xavier, and I didn't want to get unnecessary attention from someone else.
I lifted my head and looked at William.
"Alpha William," I said, "this is not a small project. Give me a couple of days to think it over."
"Okay," he said, nodding in understanding. "I will wait for your call. In the meantime, you are welcome to keep the copy. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call."
William got up and shrugged as he walked out of my office.
After William left, I couldn't help but go over the contract over and over again. I was in conflict, and hesitation filled my heart.
I frowned out of frustration and finally sighed. I glanced at the clock and saw that it was already past home time.
I grabbed all the documents on my table and left them in my desk drawer, then rushed to the elevator.
As soon as I entered the reception area, Xavier's Brantley stood proudly on the side of the road.
A smile followed on my lips, and I rushed to the car, opened the passenger door, and jumped in.
"Why didn't you send me a text message and tell me you had been waiting?" I asked Xavier.
"Then it wouldn't have been a surprise," he answered with a cheeky smile.
Xavier stepped on the gas and sped down the road.
It was early autumn, and it was already getting colder by the day.
I reached out and turned on the heater, then turned toward Xavier to tell him what happened today, but before I could utter a word, Xavier spoke. "Are you hungry?" He asked.
I nodded. I was starving.
Xavier didn't say another word and focused on the road.
When I saw that we were driving in the opposite direction from home, I suddenly wondered if Kia might know where Xavier was taking me.
"Ray says it's a surprise," she answered, shaking her head. "You will have to wait and see."
It was interesting that our wolves could connect even though we weren't fully marked.
I watched Xavier's face become more and more serious as he drove.
Twenty minutes later, we stopped at a restaurant on the other side of town.
I read the restaurant's name out of pure interest. It was a Mexican restaurant, and I was eager to go inside.
I glanced at the name engraved on the black signboard, then turned my head toward Xavier, who was about to get out of the car.
"Are we dining here tonight?" I asked.
"I've booked us a private table," Xavier said. "What's the matter? Don't you like it?"
"Xavier," I said, and he shifted his attention toward me. "The dishes served here are delicious, but their food is mainly spicy, and we both know you don't like spicy."
I smiled, stretched out my hand, and pulled Xavier back into the car, raising my eyebrows.
"So," I said and tapped his nose, "I suggest you should drive us home, and I will make us a meal."
"Hear, hear!" Xavier said teasingly, "Listen to you! This is what I want to see."
Xavier canceled the dinner reservations, and he drove us home.
I immediately grabbed an apron when I entered the spacious kitchen and started to work on our supper.
Xavier saw me standing with my back to him, and he snaked his arms around my waist possessively.
"Is there anything I can do for you?" He asked, sniffing my hair.
"No," I said, smiling, "you can go and relax on the sofa while I finish up here. Supper will be ready in a few minutes."
Xavier refused to let go of me. He rested his head on my shoulder, his warm breath tickling the side of my face.
His warm body and scent were clouding my senses, and everywhere his skin touched, little electric sparks erupted, sending those sparks down to my core. I became lost in the moment, aroused at his touch, and in seconds I was ready and soaking in my juices. The atmosphere around us suddenly changed, bringing me back to my senses.
A small purring sound erupted from Xavier.
He had never purred before. Ray: Yes. This was out of character for Xavier.
W-w-what's going on?" I stuttered nervously as worry spiked my insides.
Xavier's body stiffened, and he became quiet, adding to my anxiety.
I turned my head, searching for Xavier's gaze, but I was greeted with pitch-black eyes tenderly looking back at me.
I gasped, knowing that Ray must have taken control of Xavier's body.
Seconds later, I watched as Xavier fought for control; his eyes flickered between black and blue.
Xavier eventually closed his eyes, and a smile followed his lips.
When he opened his eyes, his voice was low and husky, and what he said next made my world spin out of control.
