Her Revenge Contract -
Chapter 138
Katherine's
POV
Our lunch date went well, and I was excited about tonight.
Xavier wanted to let me meet someone close to his heart, an elderly woman called Maggie. According to him, she was as old as time but the closest thing he could call family.
I was excited and nervous about meeting her, and Xavier told me he would send me the details during the day. She doesn't live on the pack grounds anymore due to her health. The day at the office quickly passed, and I had long forgotten about Emma-that is, until she came to see me in my office.
"Cousin," Emma called softly from my office door. My head snapped up, and I frowned at seeing her; she was standing with a tray with a cup on it.
Was she here to create issues?
"What can I do for you, Ms. Smit?" I asked indifferently.
"I came to apologize," she said, and I turned my wrist to look at the time. My eyes widened, seeing that it was about time to leave, and I got up.
Emma walked toward me, and she accidentally bumped the tray and spilled the contents of the cup all over my clothes.
"Sorry, sorry, sorry!" She gasped, "That was so clumsy of me; I am sorry!"
I sighed, frustrated, and looked up at her..
I was sure she did this on purpose! I grabbed a towel and started drying my clothes, but it was useless, and I wouldn't be able to leave and visit Maggie in this set of clothes.
"The company is not a playground, Emma!" I growled. "Excuse me, I need to get changed. Ask Sophia to send someone to mop my office. And Emma, we are at work; you are not allowed to call me cousin when we are at work." With that, I stalked to my closet, pulled out an extra blouse, and hurried to the bathroom.
I was still cursing about Emma making me late when I walked into my office and grabbed my bag.
My gaze fell on my phone, seeing it being moved on my table, and I knitted my eyebrows together.
"Luna, the driver has arrived," Sophia said behind me, and I grabbed my phone, dropped it in my handbag, turned, and stalked out of my office.
Greyson waited for me, and a smile reached his lips when he saw me. He got out and opened the passenger door for me.
"Luna," he greeted.
"Beta Greyson," I said as I got into the car.
Greyson started the car and drove off.
"Are you okay, Luna?" He asked, "You seem nervous."
"I am," I said.
"Don't be," Greyson said. "Grandma Maggie is easy to get along with."
"Grandma?" I asked.
"Yeah, we all call her grandma. She is like the mother of the pack. "It's just a shame that she has been sick for the last couple of months. It's been bothering Alpha Xabier a lot."
"Was she the pack Luna when she was younger?" I asked.
"No," he said and shook his head, "but she was part of the council in her younger years."
My heart stopped. Could she know something?
"The old lady single-handedly supported Xavier's family back then. She was the former Alpha's right hand. It was believed that what she said was the law, but things have changed.Enjoy this chapter for free and stay updated with the latest version on Job_ni-b.c-om. Don't miss out, visit it now. I became even more anxious.
"Luna, don't worry," he said. "Granma Maggie is a wonderful and warm old lady; you will love her to bits."
Xavier waited for me in front of the old-age home, and as soon as he saw the car, he walked closer and opened the door for me.
"Hi," he said, smiling and helping me out. His gaze moved over the clothes I was wearing and gave me a confused look.
"Emma spilled coffee all over me," I explained.
Xavier rolled his eyes while shaking his head.
"Well, it's a pity; I liked the clothes you had on this morning. Come on, let's go meet Grandma."
The old age home was spacious and luxurious inside, and I was surprised that it didn't smell of death.
I followed Xavier down the hall to reception to announce our arrival.
The blond nurse smiled, seeing Xavier, yet she ignored me.
"Elder Maggie is in the garden; she requested to have dinner there," she said.
Xavier took my hand, and we headed down the hall, through the living room, and out the double glass doors onto the porch overlooking the gardens.
It was quite easy to replace her; she was sitting in her wheelchair at a table, looking over the garden with the pond.
"Grandma Maggie!" Xavier called happily when we were close enough.
She turned her head, smiled when she saw Xavier, and held out her old powder hand.
"Xavier, my boy," she said. Her voice was soft, yet it still had strength behind it. Her eyes were a dark blue, carrying so much life and knowledge.
"Grandma, this is Kate," Xavier introduced me, and I went around and knelt down beside her.
"Aah, it is nice to meet you, child. Xavier told me so much about you," she said, tapping her old hand on mine. "Have a seat; I had the staff prepare us something to eat."
The food was delicious, and the conversations flowed easily. No wonder Greyson was right; it was easy to like and love this old woman.
"Alpha Xavier always praised you for being outstanding and having an excellent temperament," the old woman praised. "I can understand what he sees in you; you would make a great Luna in the future." I blushed.
"Thank you, Grandma Maggie," I said, embarrassed.
We were about done when a nurse and a familiar voice came from the double doors arguing, and my head snapped up seeing Emma pushing the nurse aside and rushing toward us.
"Emma," I growled, and I jumped to my feet. I didn't expect her to be here.
My phone-she must have gone through my phone!
"Cousin," she cried, making a scene, "where are my father's ashes? I want to bury him. I beg you to bury my father, please."
The people at the table watched the scene, not knowing what was going on.
"What are you talking about?" I asked bewilderedly, "Why did you come here?"
"Cousin, I beg you to bury my father." Emma repeated, "I don't blame you for his death!" She cried heartbrokenly.
"Emma, your father's death has nothing to do with me; go back home," I said, embarrassed. "If you need anything, ask Julia for assistance."
"Cousin, you must have a conscience. My father's bones are still not buried," Emma said. "How could you treat me like that? Are you so cold at heart?" Emma wiped away her tears. "You are being ridiculous, and on purpose," I growled darkly at her.
"I'm tired," Maggie said, looking at me with disapproval. "I want to go lie down."
My heart sank.
"Okay," Xavier said, getting up and pushing the wheelchair toward home, looking worried at me.
A nurse rushed out of the nursing home and took Maggie from Xavier, and he quietly walked to my side.
"What's wrong?" Xavier asked.
I sighed.
"Maggie must now have a bad impression of me," I said, worried. I didn't think Emma would come here and deliberately cause trouble.
"Grandma Maggie likes you very much," Xavier said, pulling me to his chest. She wouldn't listen to rumors. We both know what the truth is." "But Maggie doesn't," I complained.
"I will clear it up with my next visit," Xavier said. "Let's go home."
