Katherine's POV

Five fingerprints colored Erika's face, yet the anger inside me hadn't calmed.

"Bitch!" Erika yelled, replaceing her voice, and stormed toward me.

I don't know where I got the strength, but I pushed Erika to the side and scratched her perfect little face, leaving red marks down the side.

Erika screamed, grabbing her face. Her eyes filled with tears as she took a step away from me.

For a second I felt sorry for her, but when she lifted her gaze to me, her eyes carried so much hatred that the thought faded the second she jumped toward me... Erika tried to hit me, yet I blocked her hand.

She grabbed hold of my auburn hair and pulled me back, forcing me onto the floor.

I fought back, biting her arm to release my hair.

She screamed out in horror, and I scuffled away, getting up.

When she came at me again, I connected my fist against her nose, breaking it in the process. That angered her even more, and she launched herself, grabbing me and throwing punches. I didn't hold back, my anger reaching boiling point...

Two strong arms suddenly enveloped my waist, pulling me away from Erika.

I screamed out in anger, and fought against the hold... Rose must have called someone to break us apart. She must have seen that I was way stronger than her bratty daughter... Wolf or no wolf, I didn't shy away... I wanted to hurt Erika the way she was hurting me...

I panted out of breath and my body shook violently out of anger.

I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself... yet my gaze didn't move and was pinned on Erika where she lay on the floor.

I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and turned toward the person holding me around my waist.

"You can let go now," I said, gesturing to the young wolf to let me go.

The young man hesitated for a moment and glanced toward Rose, seeking permission to set me down. I recognize him as one of the wolves who came and paid their respect to my parents. "She started it," I whispered to him, and a small smile played on the young wolf's lips, seeing Rose still lying on the floor, "she deserves what was coming at her..."

The wolf let go of me, yet, he didn't let me out of his sight.

I straightened my dress and turned my gaze toward Erika.

Rose had gone to her daughter, helped her to her feet, and tried hard to calm her down.

I internally laughed seeing the interaction between mother and daughter. Both looked miserable... worried, and shocked...

They never expected that I would fight back...

My gaze moved over Erika, seeing swollen red marks on her face, nose, and nape, then moved down her body, and a ghost of a smile played on my lips.

She was covered by blue marks... I had done a decent number on her...

I never thought that I would be able to lose control of all my senses. I have never been a violent person.

I started to stalk forward toward the stairs, and the young boy followed nervously behind me.

"You don't need to worry," I said to him, "I am just heading toward my room..."

He gave me a quick nod of the head and took a step back.

As soon as I reached the stairs, I turned, pinning my gaze on Erika.

"Keep your filthy mouth off my parents!" I warned her and turned to leave.

Yet, I heard a scuffle and Erika growled annoyed from behind me.

I turned back, looking at her bored. Rose grabbed Erika around her arm, holding her tight to ensure she wouldn't come after me.

My gaze found Rose's and something in her eyes told me she was now even more certain that I was just acting as if I had amnesia.

I turned my gaze toward the stairs and started to climb them toward my room.

I came to a stop when I was out of sight, and listened to the two she-wolves on the ground floor.

"Seriously, Erika? Why would you go out and taunt your cousin? You need to learn to control your temper..!"

"Why Mom?" Erika growled, "She is nothing more than a low-life slut!"

Rose let out a breath.

"We need to have Kate sign the company and the pack over to us. Then we will have the final say about what to do with her." "But mom!" Erika wined.

"Don't but me!" Rose snapped, "What are you gaining by pissing Kate off? It's not benefiting you at all. Look at yourself!"

"Then why is she acting so brave all of a sudden?" Erika argued, "She has never been like that!"

"She is just fearless because she has Xavier to back her..." Rose sneered, annoyed, "If you want to get back at Kate, stop provoking her, and replace a way to get into Xavier's pants..! He will then stop worrying about her!" I growled under my breath, there was no way I would let Erika or Rose get close to Xavier...

I turned around and stalked back toward my room before I would lose control and do something more unacceptable!

Once inside my room, I closed the door, feeling the anger that had built up inside me fading.

Yet, I still felt that the few slaps and scrapes on Erika's body and face weren't enough to justify what happened to my parents and what had happened last night.

I let out a deep breath and headed toward the washroom and my gaze landed on my reflection in the mirror...

I sighed relieved when I noticed that Erika didn't leave any deep marks on my face, and the ones that she did would heal.

My eyes fell on the hickey on my nape and I shook my head in disbelief.

I didn't see the hickey earlier, I was too focused on what happened between Xavier and me.

My hand moved over the mark Xavier left on my nape, and a small smile played on my lips...

"This will be the spot Xavier will mark me someday..."

Realizing what I had just said, I growled annoyed at myself and I stepped away from the mirror in search of some makeup to cover the mark...

Things would never work between me and Xavier... not while I was human... I would end up being a liability to him and his pack... who wants a human girl as their mate?

I found the makeup I was looking for and rubbed some of the paste on my nape, yet, the more I tried to cover the mark, the more it glowed against my skin...

"Bloody wolf!" I growled annoyed, rubbing even harder to cover the mark, "couldn't he just suck somewhere else last night!"

I sighed in defeat, it was no use... the only way to cover this hickey was by wearing something around my neck...

A knock at my bedroom door startled me, and I dropped the makeup back in my bag.

"Coming!" I called, a bit annoyed from the washroom, and headed towards the door.

I was surprised to replace John standing behind the door. He had left for a business trip yesterday morning and was expected to be back only by tomorrow evening.

"This is a surprise," I said and held the door open for him to enter.

"Yes," he said, "I came back as soon as I heard you had gone missing. Are you okay?" He asked, sounding concerned.

I raised an eyebrow at John before I spoke,

"I am fine," I answered, "thank you for your concern, but there was no need to cut your business trip short..."

John's gaze fell on the hickey on my nape, and his eyes widened.

I ignored him and waited patiently to get to the point of his sudden visit.

"I need to ensure your safety," John argued, "you are still family..."

Family? I internally spat! The only people you care about are yourself, your daughter, and your wife! I wasn't included in the family term!

"Well," I said and stepped aside, "as you can see, I am fine... and safe. Is there anything else you would like to discuss?"

"Seems like you have been in a bad mood the last few days. Maybe you should take a break and do some traveling. It might do you good..." he sighed and dropped his gaze, "your father always hoped that you could take over the pack and company, yet I don't think it is wise while you are under so much stress... your father wouldn't have liked your sudden personality change..."

I bit my tongue, trying hard not to lose my temper.

It was because of his betrayal that I was acting out!

"Oh, Uncle John," I started, using the manipulative card, "you are so kind and are the only person who understands me. You have been so good to me..."

John's face softened, he was certainly enjoying my praise and taking the bait.

"I think you might have it all wrong," John said tenderly, and placed his hand on my shoulder, "your aunt and cousin are very concerned about you..."

I nodded my head, and quietly listened to John, while my insides burned out with hatred.

"Kate, you have always been a calm and responsible young lady... I think your Aunt and cousin are just approaching the issues the wrong way... I will speak to them..."

I nodded my head and smiled.

"Thank you, uncle..." I said sincerely.

"Now, I will arrange a trip for you and you can go relax and replace your bubbly self again," he smiled. "In the meantime, I will run the company and the pack in your absence. You will have nothing to worry about, except making peace with your parents' death and working on yourself..."

"Uncle, you are right. Of course, I have to fulfill my parent's wishes," I answered.

John's face lit up in excitement, and I couldn't wait to see his smile falter.

"So I have decided," I started, searching for the correct words, and John's gaze. "I want to work in the company as a director and shareholder. Can you help me arrange it?"

John's face drained of blood out of shock. He never expected me to ask to work at the company.

"Kate, you are a woman of luxury and expensive things, not an office person... you have no management experience. If you decide to manage the company you will receive a lot of criticism..." he said, concerned.

"But, uncle..." I whined, sounding more like Erika, than myself, "You just told me it was my parents' last wish to run the company. And I want to honor their wishes..!" I sulked, "do you think I can't do it?"

"Kate, you think too much. I am trying to help you. The company is used to me, and it would be convenient for everyone..."

"Well, since I am seen as an adult and hold the majority of the shares, I think it is a reasonable request to return to the company," I argued.

John hesitated, and before he could say anything more, I cut him off.

"I am not transferring the shares, uncle." I said, making it clear that I had made up my mind, "I want to do my part and work in the company and honor my parents' wishes... that includes taking my role as Luna of the pack..." John's face darkened, yet he didn't say anything and I opened my bedroom door, gesturing for him to leave...
