Her Revenge Contract -
Chapter 19
Katherine's
POV
I was bored out of my existence as I stood in the boutique, dress-shopping with Rose and Erika.
Rose had insisted that I go with them, and John seconded the proposal.
Erika was a bit annoyed about my presence, yet her father gave her a stern look...
I sighed as I browsed through the endless pieces of fabric looking for the perfect dress.
The last couple of days have been hectic. Everyone knew I was about to take over King's Enterprises, and my phone never stopped ringing.
I have had a couple of interviews with reporters throughout the last couple of days, I have been on two talk shows, and I have been invited to a radio broadcast later today...
Ironically, I was more excited about the radio broadcast than the actual dress shopping today.
Yet, I can't complain. In the last few days, business has picked up and I have been invited to three business dinners.
I sighed, Xavier hadn't pitched at any of the three business dinners, he was out of town...
The only time I hear from him was when he decided to call me late at night to check up on me... I asked him where he had gone, but he refused to tell me anything about his whereabouts.
My heart ached for him... and I had a feeling that Xavier did too... something in his voice changed... the way he spoke to me was way different...
My hands moved between a row of fancy dresses in all different colors of shades of deep red.
The red color was beautiful, but the dresses were not.
Nothing inside the shop was grabbing my attention to wear.
I shook my head and moved on to a different line. I was looking for something plain but elegant, like something my mother used to wear...
My mind wanders off, remembering how perfect my mother looked at parties and events she used to go to. She would send me pictures of every dress she wore... and sometimes my father was included in the pictures...
I suddenly wondered what Rose had done with my mom's old dresses... maybe I could replace something I liked from those.
My gaze moved toward Erika and Rose, who was busy discussed three different dresses. Asking Rose about my mother's dresses now would certainly urge an argument.
I sighed, I wasn't in the mood for any drama now...
"This one is way too cheap for the party," Erika said, shaking her head as she looked at the price tag. She handed the dress back to Rose.
"You are certainly right," Rose agreed a bit nervous and went back searching for a more expensive dress.
I noticed that Rose kept me in sight, which only told me that the only reason I was invited was to see what I would pick to wear at the party.
I internally growled annoyed.
The two women were more worried about showing off their lifestyle and money than anything else.
I wasn't used to that. My parents were different... way different... they would have rather given back to the community and pack than spent their money on overrated nitty-gritty things.
Don't misunderstand me, we were well off... there was never a money issue and we could buy whatever our hearts desired.
But what was the point in doing that? Why spend so much money on something that you will only wear once?
My mother never wore the same style twice, yet, she used the same dress multiple times, changing the dress to fit that night's theme... no one noticed it through the years, and her dresses were always a hit.Visit Job ni b.com to read the complete chapters for free.

I still wanted to make a statement at the welcoming party, and have all the people remember me, but I want them to remember me as a person in an elegant manner, and not necessarily the dress I wore...
I have never liked dresses with too much bling on them... and everything I touched so far was over the top, making the dresses not only heavy but far too busy for my liking...
Was this the current fashion trend?
Was this what people like nowadays?
I let out an uneven breath, as my fingers moved over the heavy silver chains and beads sewn on the dress...
These dresses weren't my style at all...
I lifted my gaze in search of Rose, and we locked eyes. She smiled and waved politely, and went on searching for a dress for Erika.
That was the first interaction I had with Rose from the minute we entered the shop. Rose and Erika went the other way as soon as we entered, and both she-wolves ignored me, acting like I didn't exist. Not that it bothered me... on the contrary, I was happy about it.
The sales representative saw me standing and hesitated at the the shelves and she came running to my side.
"Can I help you, mam?" She politely asked, but I shook my head.
"I think you should rather help the two women that entered before me," I answered and gestured to Rose and Kate, "I will be fine on my own, thanks," I reassured her. "Are you sure?" She asked.
"I am..." I answered and nodded my head, "They are here to spend a lot of money on a gown, help them choose the most expensive dress you have..."
"Oh, wow!" She gasped and turned her head toward Rose and Erika, "how do you know that?" She asked.
"We have an important party tomorrow night..." I answered, "Now go and help them before the youngest of the two has a meltdown in here!"
"Okay, okay, okay," the blond girl said and hurried toward Rose and Erika. I calmly strolled toward the first dresses, listening to the sales representative introducing herself.
"Good morning ladies," she said, "my name is Helen. Can I interest your ladies in something more elegant and spectacular?" The girl asked and Erika's face lit up.
"Yes please," Erika said, "my mother has no sense of taste... and I want to impress a certain boy tomorrow night!"
Rose bit her tongue at her daughter's rudeness, and the sales representative turned and disappeared into the storeroom in search of something more pricey.
"Erika, I'm counting on you... Don't act like a child!" Rose reprimanded her daughter, "Getting Xavier to fall for you is our top priority. You will not be able to act like this around him." Erika's annoyed gaze turned toward Rose and she nodded her head.
"Okay, Mom..." she answered.
"You will need to get Xavier's attention the second he arrives!" Rose continued, handing her a white ball gown.
Erika turned toward the mirror, looking at her reflection.
I had to give it to Rose. The white dress she picked for Erika was beautiful. She looked more like a bride than someone who was going to a party.
When Erika turned back toward Rose, her facial expression had become hard and serious...
"If Kate can get a date with Xavier, I will be able to do so too... I am much prettier than she is..."
Why was my cousin trying to compete with me? This wasn't some competition!
I shook my head annoyed and turned around and headed toward the other side of the boutique.
I was amazed at what the second section kept. It wasn't as big as the front side, but it did keep dresses to my taste.
I started browsing through the endless rows of dresses in different colors, and when I eventually found something in my taste and color, I pulled the dress from the rail to have a better look at it.
My gaze wandered over the thin cream satin dress as I hung it before me. It was pretty and elegant, and I became excited for the first time since I entered the shop.
The dress didn't have any sleeves and the back of the dress was open, yet it did have strings that would cross over my back and keep the dress in place.
Now that my back had miraculously healed from all the torture I endured at my family's hands, I was able to wear something like this again.
Oh Goddess, I could just imagine Xavier's face when he sees me...
Will he like it?
My mind wandered off, seeing Xavier in my mind standing only with his towel wrapped around his torso... I unconsciously licked my lips... I have been thinking of him a lot lately... and just thinking of him has my core clenched and my panties wet... "Kate!" Rose's voice echoed through the quiet shop, shaking me out of my lustful daydream.
"Yes?"
"Where are you?"
"Over here..." I answered.
"Oh, heavens, I thought you left," she said and walked closer, "did you replace anything interesting?"
"Yes, I did and showed her the dress."
"That is surely pretty," she said, "are you taking that?"
I nodded my head.
"Okay," she said, "we are about to check out... we will wait for you at the restaurant close by..."
I gave her another nod of the head, in understanding.
"I'll be done soon," and headed toward the shoe department.
There wasn't something I liked and I decided to wear my black stilettos with the dress.
I walked back to the sales counter and handed my dress to the sales representative.
"Did you sell anything to the women?" I asked, interested to know.
"Yes, thank you!" She said smiling, her face lit up out of joy, "The two women went way out and bought one of the most beautiful and expensive diamond sets we have..."
"I am glad you made some good sales today," I said and paid for the dress.
My phone rang in my pocket, and I retrieved the phone without looking at the caller ID.
"Hello, Kate speaking!" I answered.
"Ms. Kate, it is David from KST radio station, how are you?"
"Good, good," I answered, "what can I do for you, David?"
"Well, we have a cancelation and were wondering if you could come in earlier for the interview?" He said.
I hesitated for a second before I answered.
"Okay," I gave in, "what time would you like to have it?"
"In an hour?" He answered.
"Very well," I responded and cut the call.
I hurried toward the restaurant and found Rose and Erika waiting for me.
"What took you so long?" Erika sneered through gritted teeth, "I am starving!"
I ignored her, placed my bag on the chair, and turned my attention to Rose.
"I will not be joining you," I said, and Erika growled next to me, cutting me off.
I lifted an eyebrow at her, warning her in the process to back off.
Rose gave me a concerned look and cocked her head sideways.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
"Nothing is wrong," I answered, "the radio station moved my interview..."
"Oh," Rose said, suprised, "tell the driver to drop you off then..."
"Thank you..."
I grabbed the bag on the chair and was about to lift it when Erika bumped her glass of wine over, spilling the red contents into the bag...
