Her Revenge Contract -
Chapter 34
Xavier's POV
"I seriously don't have time for this!" I growled darkly and gestured for the woman to leave.
"Xavier," the woman stood her ground, crossed her arms, and shifted her head to the side, "I am not here to fight or argue..."
"Then why are you here?" I spat angrily at her.
"Because I have decided to come home!" She casually replied as if nothing had happened in the past.
"Excuse me?" I choked bewilderedly, "Home?"
"You heard me!" She said, "I am ready to take on my responsibilities and rule by your side!"
"This is not your home anymore, Brenda!" I growled, "You rejected me, remember, and left me for that... that... that thing you called a warrior!" "Yes, but now I have returned, and we..."
"There is NO we!" I cut her off. "Get out!"
"Xavier, we can start over; my feelings for you have never changed," she pleaded.
"No!" I said, and I expanded my aura. I had enough of this sh*t!
"Xavier, please! I have nowhere to go!" She begged as she dropped her head.
After her rejection, she wasn't my equal anymore and wouldn't be able to raise her head and fight against my aura.
"Where is your lover? Does he know you are here? Or did you leave him too, like you did me?" I roared.
"He is dead, Xavier," she answered.
That took me by surprise, and my anger died off, and she was able to raise her gaze.
"How?" I asked.
"Rogue attack," she answered, "a couple of weeks back..."
"I'm sorry to hear that, Brenda," I said, a bit more in control.
A small painful smile appeared on full rosy lips, and I couldn't but help to remember how those features of hers used to suck me in.
My gaze pinned her warm, desert-colored eyes, and I could see she wasn't lying, yet I had a feeling that something was off and she was hiding something from me. I will have Greyson do a background check.
My gaze moved over the rest of her features. Brenda looked much older and more mature... Her golden locks were now cut into a shorter, shoulder-length style. She was still pretty, but not as beautiful as I remembered.
I took a whiff of her scent, curious to know if it would drive Ray crazy.
Ray walked out of the depths of my mind, a bit bored, and took a seat. He shifted his head from side to side, observing Brenda.
"Is that?" He asked, sounding surprised and disappointed at the same time.
"Yeah, it is!" I answered.
"Her scent is different," he commented, pulled his nose in disgust, and got to his feet. "Katie is trying to connect with me."
"Are you..?"
"No," he answered, shaking his massive head. "I want Kate; she is our mate."
I turned my attention back to Brenda, unconcerned about what she was saying.
"And because of that, I was requested to leave, and I returned home."
"Brenda, this isn't your home anymore." I sneered through gritted teeth, getting angry again. "You will need to make other arrangements. You are not welcome here or on the pack lands!" "Is this because of that Kate girl?" She asked, catching me off guard.
"No! It is because you cheated, rejected, and left your pack and Luna duties without any warning or reason!" I snapped.
"You were never home, Xavier!" She argued, "And I needed your love, your protection, and your companionship."
"You threw all that away!" I yelled, "You broke the trust between us, and Ray almost died with a broken heart!"
"We can have all that again. We can start over! Ray and Katie can be together again, like in the old days!"
Katie was Brenda's wolf, and after all these years, I still wonder how Brenda managed to persuade Katie to turn her back on Ray and just leave.
It hit Ray harder than me, and for months, Ray was depressed.
"You had your chance! Now leave before I lose control!" I warned her and turned toward Greyson.
"They are on their way!" Greyson answered, walked toward Brenda, carefully grabbed hold of her arm, and pulled her toward the elevator. "Does she know about me?" Brenda asked.
I ignored her question and stalked off toward my office.
"Escort Ms. Murphy from the premises!" I heard Greyson order security.
Ten minutes later, Greyson walked into my office and closed the door behind him.
He took a seat and quietly observed me.
"Are you done reading me?" I asked and sat back in the chair, crossing my arms.
"Yes," he answered.
"And?"
"You have surprised me so far." He answered, yet there was some confusion in his voice.
"Suprise you how?" I asked.
"Your self-control was impeccable," he answered.
"So it was..." My words trailed off the second a knock sounded at the door.
"Enter!" I yelled, and Lidia opened the door.
"Mr. Black," she said, "the jeweler has arrived."
"Let them in," I told her.
A minute later, an oldish man in his late fifties followed Lidia in, followed by five heavily guarded security guards, each with a suitcase.
"Mr. Black, this is Mr. Robert Greehill, from NJ Jewelers," Lidia introduced us, and Robert extended his hand.
"Mr. Black, it is an honor to be at your service," he said as we shook hands.
"Thank you," I said, gesturing for him to take a seat.
"Is there anything specific you are looking for?" Robert asked.
"Let's just say, I will pay whatever Ms. King's heart desires."
"Very well, then it's settled," he said, and we both got to our feet.
Greyson gave Robert's driver the directions to the King Group building, and we all left.
NJ Jewelers had already arrived, and they were patiently waiting in the vehicles.
"Give me a five-minute head start," I told Greyson.
Greyson gave me a quick nod of his head in understanding, and we both got out of the SUV.
I headed toward the reception area, found Kelly sitting there and she buzzed me in.
"Good luck, Alpha," she said as I headed to the elevator.
Once inside, my nerves started to play up, my heart raced, and my hands became sticky and sweaty.
I took a deep breath. I was doing the right thing, but still, it was a huge step.
Kate could still reject me as soon as this was over.
The elevator bell rang above me, and the doors flew open.
With three steps, I stood at the reception area. Yet, no one was available.
Where is everybody?
"She acts like we are children!" A woman's voice sneered down the hall.
"I don't think she ever graduated from kindergarten; she is extremely unprofessional and childish!" Another complained.
I followed the voices toward an open-plan area where a group of employees was gathered around a desk, discussing Kate.
"I still don't see why Xavier Black has any interest in her."
"Maybe the rumors of her climbing into someone else's bed are true. Xavier Black seemed to be very embarrassed the night her hickey was revealed, and he must have felt compelled to claim her as his fiance to save her reputation!" "I am telling you, the woman has no skill. She might have a body to die for, but that is about it!"
"Is it a common practice for the King Group employees to insult and satirize the heir and the boss of the company?" I snapped.
The group scattered apart, yet my scolding got a lot of unwanted attention from the surrounding offices.
John appeared seconds later, confused by my sudden visit.
"Alpha Black, what a surprise! You should have told me you were coming. I would have sighed you in, myself," he said, "and not have you waited..."
I spotted Kate among the group of employees before I replied.
"Waiting for someone is not an issue that I can forgive," I said coldly. "However, I am really disappointed by your employees' work ethics!"
John's face whitened, and he immediately understood. He turned toward the group of employees and yelled.
"If you insult or even gossip about Ms. King's back again, I will inform the human resources department not to pay any bonuses this year!"
The crowd of employees immediately burst into complaints and became even more hostile towards Kate.
"Mr. Black, is there anything we can do for you this morning?" John asked, yet I ignored him and walked straight to Kate's side.
At that moment, as if it were planned, the elevator opened, revealing Greyson and Robert.
"Is there somewhere more private?" I asked Kate.
She narrowed her eyes but didn't say anything and nodded her head.
We followed Kate toward her office and closed the door.
A group of employees gathered at the windows, interested in seeing why we were there.
Robert gestured to the security guards to open the cases.
One by one, the contents of the boxes were revealed, and the group of spectators yelled out in excitement as they viewed the diamond rings.
"Have a look," I said, gesturing to the rings on display. "You can choose whichever one you like; they are all your size."
Kate found my gaze and a shy smile followed on her lips.
"You are unbelievable," she whispered...
