Her Revenge Contract -
Chapter 47
Katherine's POV
"If you would please excuse us, we have other guests to attend to," I said, smiled, and interlinked my arm with Xavier.
Out of sight, I pulled Xavier to a quiet area.
"How do you feel?" I asked, worried, "Do you feel dizzy or uncomfortable?"
"I feel fine," he answered. "You, on the other hand, look tense and nervous!"
"Nonsense!" I argued and quickly changed the subject.
"But seriously, do you feel uncomfortable? I think there was something wrong with the wine. They must have hoped that you would take the wine from me.
"I feel fine," Xavier smiled faintly, his cheeks reddened. "Come one; it is not my style to run away and leave my guest waiting."
"Fine!" I gave in. "But promise me if you feel funny, you will tell me!"
"I will do so," Xavier promised, and we went back to our table.
When the DJ started the song, we chose the opening on the dance floor. Xavier took my hand and walked to the middle of the dance floor.
Applause sounded around us, and my heart pounded uncontrollably in my chest.
Xavier took my hand in his, and the other he set on the small of my back. With the first step we took, I stepped on his black, shiny shoes, leaving prints on them.
I flustered crimson, feeling embarrassed.
"S-s-sorry," I stuttered nervously, "I-I-I... am so nervous that I can't think straight!"
"Relax," Xavier whispered against my nape, "just follow my lead; you will pick up the steps. I promise you, I won't let you fall."
A small smile played at the corners of Xavier's lips, and his eyes sparkled out of mischief. He grabbed my hand and twirled me around, then brought me back hard against his chest. Xavier manipulated my body to his will as we danced to the music, and soon I knew the steps and enjoyed dancing with Xavier.
I spotted John and Rose standing with their glasses at the edge of the dance floor, keeping an eye on us.
Annoyance crossed Rose's face, and she turned toward John, looking upset.
John shook his head and hurried toward the kitchen, and minutes later he came back and slipped something into a waiter's pocket.
Xavier twirled me again, bringing me back into his arms, and playfully pecked my lips.
The crowd applauded and whistled after seeing our interactions.
When the music finally came to a stop, the DJ announced over the PA system that the dance floor was now open, and a couple of couples took their spots on the dance floor.
"Let's get something to eat and drink," Xavier said, dragging me toward our table.
Kelly and Greyson had just arrived and were seated at our table, deep in discussion.
"Finally!" Xavier said, "I thought you two had ditched the party!"
"We got a bit distracted," Kelly said, blushing.
"Well, I am glad you made it!" I commented. Kelly and I became acquainted, and even though I didn't trust anyone except Xavier, she and I could strike up a conversation, and we had a lot in common. "Alpha Xavier," John called, and he walked over and handed Xavier a glass of wine.
"Thanks," Xavier said, looking at the contents.
"So, I was wondering..."
"Beta John," Xavier said, cutting him off, "I am here to announce my engagement, not to discuss business!"
"Yes, yes," John said, looking embarrassed, "well, in that case, a toast to becoming family!" And he lifted the class into the air.
Xavier lifted the glass and was about to take a sip of the wine when the next song played on the dance floor.
"Can I have this dance?" Xavier asked, holding his hand out to me.
"Sure!" I answered and got to my feet, and a waiter passed, and Xavier set the glass on the tray, and the waiter took it away.
Xavier and I walked back to the dance floor, and Kelly and Greyson followed.
This time it was a slow dance, and Xavier pulled me into his chest, snaking his arms around my waist. I, in return, had my arms around his neck.
I was conscious of Xavier's hands around my waist and his breath tickling my nape.
My breath and heart started to race, and I closed my eyes as I took in Xavier's scent.
I became intoxicated from being around him, and my body and mind went into overdrive.
I wanted to have Xavier touch my body, move his fingers over my bare skin, and leave electric sparks everywhere his fingers touched!
I wanted to taste him and feel his body move as he entered and made sweet love to me.
"When the song ends, we need to go upstairs and change," Xavier said, pulling me closer and winking, breaking the spell he held on me. "Then we will do the toast!"
I hadn't seen the surprise dress, and I was curious about what Xavier had got me.
The song ended, and the DJ announced that we could take a quick break.
We moved from the dance floor, making space for the acrobats to do the show, and Xavier handed me over to Kelly.
"I'll see you soon," Xavier said, following Greyson out.
I followed Kelly out toward the elevator; she pressed the call button, and we waited.
John's and Rose's voices sounded down the hall, and I gestured to Kelly to keep quiet and hold the elevator door for me. I quickly and quietly walked down the hall, trying hard to keep my stilettos as quiet as possible. I hit behind a plant around the corner but was able to see Rose and John pacing up and down.
"Why did you take so long to make the toast with Xavier?" Rose spat angrily. "Why did you hesitate? Erika is dressed and ready in her hotel room. What should we do now? Many paragraphs are missing. Read the complete book on Narugi.c(o)m. Kate will be going to her hotel room soon and getting dressed; if nothing happens, all our efforts will be in vain!"
John kept silent, still pacing up and down and thinking.
"Tell Erika to cancel our original plan," he said, stopping. "She needs to come down now, not later."
Rose looked at him as if he had two heads.
"What are you planning?" Rose asked.
"Don't you worry!" John said and looked at his mate, "I will think of something..."
Footsteps echoed through the hall, and I quickly rushed toward the elevator, closing the door.
"Are you okay, Luna?" Kelly asked, searching my gaze.
"I am fine," I lied.
When the elevator door opened, Kelly took a left turn down the hall, and I followed her. She came to a stop and froze, shifting her head to the side and narrowing her eyes.
"What's wrong?" I asked as I rushed closer and froze when soft whimpering sounds could be heard.
"Is someone hurt?"
"I am not sure, Luna!" Kelly replied, and my heart began to race.
"Open it," I demanded.
"But..."
"Kelly, open the damn door!" I cut her off.
Kelly punched the code in, and what we saw next made my heart pinch hurtfully in my chest.
