Katherine's

POV

I arrived at the tender meeting early with Sarah.

I spotted Xavier's tall figure in the crowd; he was standing and waiting for me in the center of the room, and warriors surrounded him.

"This way," Sarah said, leading me directly to Xavier's side.

Xavier gave me a nod of the head and a little smile. His blue eyes were darker than usual, and I assumed it was because of the excitement of being there.

"Is everything ready?" He whispered as he pulled me toward him.

"Yes," I nodded and winked, "everything is set."

"Has the tender been moved?" Xavier whispered in my ear.

I stood close to Xavier and turned my head in search of Erika. It didn't take me long to spot her and see her at the back of the room, creeping closer to the tender table, grabbing our tender envelope, and replacing some of the sheets in the tender. Sarah stood a couple of feet from the table, acting like she was on the phone.

"It is done," I said, smiling.

I couldn't help but feel happy and excited to see John's face and how he would react when he found out that it was his precious daughter who had ruined the bid.

"They are starting," Greyson said, gesturing toward the table.

Every tender document would now be opened before everyone, the contents checked to see if every page was completed, and then it would be announced who would go through to the next round.

An hour later, it was clear that King Group documentation was incomplete and we could not participate, but Black Umbrellas was still in the run.

It was just after lunchtime when John rushed into my office, furious about the news.

"I told you if you didn't understand the tender document to ask Sarah for help!" John roared as he walked into my office and closed the door behind him. "How can something so important as a tender be incomplete!? Many paragraphs are missing. Read the complete book on Narugi.c(o)m. And how can the data be wrong? Such a big piece of good business is now lost! How will I explain this to the board of directors?" John was panting for breath when he was done yelling. Yet I just crossed my arms around my waist and kept quiet.

My gaze turned toward the office window, seeing a group of employees gathering at Amanda's desk. They all looked extremely happy and satisfied that I was being scolded by John. If only they knew I was being scolded for something I didn't do.

Erika doesn't know how badly she screwed up, and she most probably saved the company from bankruptcy and my life.

Maybe someday I will thank her.

I still didn't know what John's actual plan was, but I chose to believe that it was not one of kindness.

In less than half a day, the problem of my bid error quickly spread throughout the whole company.

In addition, John "accidentally" spilled the beans, and some directors who had supported me began to turn their backs on me. Although the photo incident was screwed up by Erika's stupidity before, it was a great victory for John for me to lose the trust of the directors because of the bidding incident.

"Mr. King, a reporter from the Business Times wants to interview you about the tender," John's assistant called him.

John's face turned pleased, and he was about to respond when he remembered he was still in my office.

"Tell reporters that there is nothing to say about this matter. It is normal for newcomers to make mistakes. We will not explain this matter," he said, and the assistant left.

John's careful words were changed to suit the reporter's taste.

"As we all know, the representative of the King Group at the bidding meeting was Ms. Katherine King herself, and Mr. John King, her uncle, said that the "newcomer" naturally makes mistakes. After verifying this with a King Group employee, it was admitted that the tender was written by Ms. Kathrine King."

I enjoyed the news. My wild guess would be that Sarah or even Erika told the reporter that it was me who completed the tender.

I browsed through the comments on my Tiktok account.

The comments did not pose any threat directly to me, but they would make John completely relax his vigilance against me.

At the end of the work day, while Sarah was gossiping with other colleagues in the office area, a girl walked into my office and handed me a coffee.

"Ms. King, you have worked so hard," the girl said and smiled.

I looked at the girl, surprised at her boldness to just walk into my office without knocking first.

She had medium black hair hanging on her shoulders, wore big black-framed glasses, a cheap professional suit, and a pair of sneakers that cost more than her suit.

Yet her face looked too young and pure to be in her early twenties.

At first, I assumed she was sent from Xavier's office to help me, but after looking at the girl, I knew there was no way that she could be capable of doing so.

I was slightly stunned and glanced at the office area. Sarah was still talking with other people and didn't notice the girl. I lowered her voice, looked at the girl, and whispered. "Are you Xavier's informant?" I asked.

The girl smiled but didn't answer me.

"I found out that Sarah not only has a love interest in John but also has several private contacts with Erika. Alpha Xavier hopes you can make good use of this information."

"Okay, I see," I answered. I was wondering if Sarah wasn't romantically involved with John. If I can replace the proof, it might help me get rid of Sarah.

"If you have anything else to say, you need to tell me now; Sarah is about to come back," I said as I watched Sarah walk back to her office table.

The girl smiled and responded, unconcerned about Sarah.

"Alpha Xavier asked me to tell you that he wants you to stay in the same position as you are now. He also said, that I need to inform you not to participate in the next board of directors meeting next week." With that, she turned on her heels and left my office.

The second the girl stepped foot out of my office, I saw her change her demeanor and pretend to push her glasses clumsily back on her nose.

I sat back in my chair, crossed my arms around my chest, and watched her as she waited for the lift.

"Why would Xavier send someone?" I whispered to myself, "Why not just call me?"
