Her Revenge Contract -
Chapter 64
Xavier's POV
I was already pissed when I walked into my office. I couldn't believe that I was so stupid to believe that Kate would listen.
I growled under my breath and slammed the door behind me, hearing my secretary yelp out of fright.
Greyson rushed in seconds later, his face gray from worry.
"What?" He growled, and I was just as pissed at him as any other pack member who let Kate leave that morning.
How the f*ck did she manage to leave without anyone seeing her?
"Xavier," Greyson hesitated; there was something in his voice telling me that whatever news he had was urgent or depressing, and he was uncertain of how I would react. I turned my gaze towards him, lifting an eyebrow. He sighed, swallowed hard, walked closer to my office table, and handed me his tablet.
"What is this?" I asked as I flipped through the endless pictures that looked like some mental hospital.
"Remember when we found Kate in the river?" He asked.
"Yeah?"
"Can you see..."
My mind went into overdrive, remembering the whip marks on her back and the weak condition she was in when I found her.
"John is using these pictures to make her look mentally ill."
It wasn't a question, yet Greyson reacted to it.
"Yes, and it has been viewed over..."
"Almost a hundred thousand times in the last five hours..." I completely agree with his thoughts.
I lifted my gaze and handed his phone back to him. I sensed that this wasn't the only reason he was here.
"Kelly called," Greyson said, and worry reflected in his eyes. "John has arranged for the mental hospital to pick up Kate at the offices."
"He is making this a big thing!"
"Yes, and to top it off, the council wants to have a meeting in less than twenty minutes."
"About what?" I growled.
"Kate," he simply answered.
I sighed, nodded, and got up.
"Have Kelly stall John," I said as I walked to the window. "Let her speak to one of the board of directors who knew the family... Call your grandmother and the doctor; tell them to be here in twenty minutes." Greyson nodded his head and asked, "And the council?"
"I will meet them in twenty," I answered, "but be sure that sh*t is about to fly! I am still the Alpha of the pack and the CEO of this company; what I say goes!" Greyson left a few seconds later, making the call to his mate. She has been a great help to us.
I stared out of my office window, below. Reporters had gathered at our reception area and most probably wanted to know my thoughts on Kate's condition. "Do you think that the electric shock Kate received hurt Kate's wolf?" Ray suddenly asked.
"I doubt that," I answered, shaking my head. "I think that the Goddess knew she would be tortured, and the process was delayed to keep her wolf safe."
Ray dropped the conversation, and I grabbed my coat and rushed to the boardroom.
"Morning gents," I said as I walked in.
"Morning Alpha," the old wolves greeted in unison.
"I understand that you all have something to say."
They nodded their heads and took a seat.
"So before any of you say a word, listen up."
The old wolves were surprised at my attitude; usually, I would listen to them first and then make a decision.
"I will not break my engagement; it's a private matter. Are you in charge of who I am to be mated with?" I asked.
"Although you are in charge of the company, your private affairs have seriously affected the company's stock market and shareholders' income. If you continue to be so stubborn, we old guys can only use coercive means." I held up my hand, and the conference room was quiet instantly.
"The photos on the internet are from the time when Kate was tortured; she wasn't in a mental hospital."
"How do you know for sure?"
"Greyson and I found her in the river," I said, pinning my gaze on him. "When the doctor examined her, he confirmed it."
I turned my gaze toward the door, and surely the doctor stood there, and I nodded for him to enter.
"I know it's against doctor and patient confidentiality, but the council needs to know what happened to Kate."
"She was severely tortured," the good old doctor said.
"How do you know that?"
"In a mental hospital, you don't get whipped," he said, "except that, I found silver and wolfsbane in her blood. Also, not something a mental hospital uses, but wolves... when they need to torture." "Even if what you say is true, it will break us, and our name will be..."
"It wouldn't," Edna said as she walked in. "If you turn your back on your future Luna now, you will have great consequences."
"You saw the future?" I asked.
"Yes," Edna replied, "I just had a vision."
My secretary came and handed me two documents.
"Alpha, the two cooperation agreements you asked for have been drawn up. Word came from the King Group that your fiancee has been restrained."
I stared coldly at the council while listening to my secretary's report.
I got up and picked up the two documents. This was the only way to save Kate.
"Go," I said to Greyson.
"If you dare to take on these two projects to cooperate with King Group, we will jointly dismiss you as Alpha!"
I saw red, and before I could control myself, Ray took over and threw the projector against the wall.
"I have made Black Umbrella a success after my parent's death, and I have filled your pockets! If you still want to continue to be part of this pack and its wealth, you will listen to me and treat me with respect! Else, you are welcome to sell your shares and leave!" The council never saw me like this, shivering in fear; they knew that if they didn't have me, Black Umbrella and the pack would fall, and they would suffer too.
With that, I stalked out of the boardroom.
