Katherine's

POV

Steven was so frightened that he immediately took a few steps back, staring at me nervously.

"Ms. King, you can't just say those words casually!"

Steven looked around nervously and quickly closed the blinds.

"Ms. King, why are you asking about money laundering?" he whispered.

Steven was a straightforward person. Although he has a playful side, after getting to know him, he is very clever and extremely thorough.

Seeing his abnormal seriousness, I couldn't help but ask if there was anything wrong with those two words.

I grew up in the business circle, but I was well hidden and protected, and I rarely had anything to do with business.

Even though I have heard the words money laundering, I don't know what they mean.

"Money laundering," Steven lowered his voice, "as the name suggests, is to change the name or nature of illegally obtained money through certain means to make it legal income. This is called money laundering, and in business circles, the word money laundering is taboo. You can say the word in front of me, but please don't say it in the open."

I nodded, already thinking about taking action.

Although I can't trace where it is coming from, I can trace the accounts through financial errors and omissions.

After we roughly discussed the contract, Steven left.

Xavier's car was parked at the front gate. He was casually leaning against the side of the car, waiting for me and watching me from the distance with a naughty smile on his lips. The two top buttons of his shirt were unbuttoned, and the chest was slightly exposed.

Everyone's eyes fell on Xavier, and bystanders were taking out their phones and taking pictures of him. From time to time, some silly girls made some unappreciated remarks.

"Why did you drive all the way to come fetch me?" I asked, feeling a bit uncomfortable with all the attention.

Xavier raised his eyebrows, looked down at me, raised my chin, and gave me a sly smile.

"Are you jealous?" He asked.

I glanced at the crowd around us and pushed Xavier's hand away.

"Jealous?" I gasped. "I'm not jealous."

Xavier gave me a taunting smile and opened the passenger door for me.

"Have you read the contract?" He asked when he was seated.

"Yes, I have read through the contract," I answered. "Basically, there are no major issues; it's just that the profit from the project isn't much. To be honest, it's not very impressive. I guess something is better than nothing. We will accept the offer; I am just not sure what you think."

I handed the completed contract to Xavier.

Xavier smiled and casually flipped through the pages.

"You can handle this project yourself," Xavier said. "This is one of your old clients; it has nothing to do with me or my company. You can do whatever you want with it."

I nodded in understanding.

"I have done a bit of investigating today," I said as I took out another file from my bag. "I checked the reports again. The information on the enterprise website shows that everything is normal, and the financial figures at the end of the year also show normal. But then I compared the project transactions with those of this company. Almost every year, in a certain month, a large amount of money is transferred out of the accounts."

I handed a printed account statement to Xavier.

"This account is kept open for about a month and is used for different expenditures. The remaining amount is then just transferred out of the account."

Xavier flipped through the documents I gave him and looked at the notes I made on the documents.

"Not bad," he praised, with a hint of jealousy. "It seems that Steven has taught you a lot."

I didn't dare to speak when I saw the coldness in Xavier's eyes, and I sat back in my seat.

Was Xavier jealous? And if he was, why?

Xavier narrowed his eyes, stretched his hand out, and pulled me closer to him.

My breath hitched, feeling Xavier's hot breath move over me.

"Can I eat you?" He asked, and the playful Xavier was back. "You have abandoned me this morning, and I think you need to fix my sad heart."

I wanted to refuse, but I couldn't escape his hold. His intoxicating scent was driving my insides wild, and the look of loss in his eyes was breaking my heart.

I lifted my gaze and drowned in the deep pools of his cold blue eyes before he crushed his lips against mine.

Greyson waited for us when we arrived home, and Xavier and Greyson disappeared toward his study.

I sighed and headed to my room. This little trip back home had heated up so much that I was hoping for more at home. I guess I will have to wait for later...

I opened my bag and pulled out the financial reports and documents to further my investigation.

The same company name popped up in the bank statements: New Majestic Trading.

I pulled my laptop closer and did a random search for the name.

The first thing that popped up was the company's profile and website, yet it didn't look like a very big company.

"Interesting," I muttered to myself. "The company isn't well known, but it does have a website. How odd..."

I scrunched my eyebrows together as I browsed through the web page.

The company hosted four major completed projects under our name. Yet I can't recall seeing the name on any of the contracts or Project registers.

I suddenly had a bad feeling growing in the pit of my stomach, and I hesitated to keep scrolling down.

Was this a bogus company?

My gaze landed on a photo taken of all the directors together, and I recognized the CEO as one of the many men Erika slept with.

Startled, I jumped up and took a few steps away from my laptop. I couldn't believe my eyes.

"What's wrong?" Xavier asked, startling me, and I turned around, looking at him with wide eyes.

Xavier walked closer, and his face hardened when he saw the picture.

"Do you know him?"
