Her Triplet Alphas -
Chapter 83: Sleeping Beauty Chasity Awakens
Calix
Barely a moment after Chasity fainted, we found ourselves speeding to the Winter Moon Hospital. Felix was at the wheel, flooring the gas pedal. He was flying through the streets at an unprecedented speed, even for him, the family speed demon. For once, even Alex was grateful for Felix’s wild ways. We made it to the hospital in no time.
I dashed inside, cradling Chasity tightly to my chest. Alex and Felix were hot on my heels. Chasity’s family hurried behind us. I presented my little Goddess to the first doctor I encountered. The young doctor’s eyes widened. I could tell she recognised her future Luna and her current Alphas.
“Luna Chasity is pregnant, right?” Confirmed the doc.
I nodded fervently, my voice failing me.
“With Triplets,” added Alex.
“Wow,” mumbled the doctor as she motioned for assistance from several other staff members.
The doctor pressed her index and middle fingers to the side of Chasity’s neck, ensuring that my future bride’s pulse was present. As werewolves, we could all effortlessly hear Chasity’s heartbeat but it seemed as though the doctor was gauging something else.
“Her pulse is strong, the rhythm is regular,” murmured the doctor to a nurse with a clipboard. “Please, Roberta, place the Luna in a private room and record her vitals right away.”
The nurse led the way to the nearest private room whilst the doctor asked a few questions.
“How did this happen? Did she hit her head?” Asked the doctor.
“No, no,” said Alex. “Nothing happened. No physical trauma, I mean. She fainted during a family therapy session at a psychologist’s office, right after she was told she might have PTSD.”
The doctor nodded, jotting something down on her clipboard.
“Did she complain of anything prior to fainting, like chest pain, abdominal pain, a headache?” Asked the doctor, just as we reached the private room.
“No, nothing,” said Alex.
“No dizziness or nausea? Has she had morning sickness?” asked the doc.
“No,” said Alex and Felix in unison, while I carefully placed Chasity on the bed.
The nurse began hooking her up to the various machines.
“No fever or rash? Did she eat breakfast?” Asked the doc.
“No fever, no rash, she ate pancakes. It’s her favourite,” said Felix, looking forlorn.
The doctor took note of the readings the nurse had gotten. I could hear the various monitors beeping. I had no idea what any of it meant and if it was good or not.
“Her vitals are normal,” announced the doctor, turning away from the machines’ monitors and giving us a reassuring smile. “Her fainting is potentially one of the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, but we need to take extra precautions as she’s pregnant! And with multiples too! I’ll do some routine b***d work and a bedside ultrasound just to be safe. Her b***d glucose, meaning her b***d sugar level, was normal so she didn’t faint because of lack of sustenance.”
Thank goodness. Now, I could exhale.
Grandpa Chance gave me a faint smile. I patted him on the shoulder. Chasity’s parents looked relieved but tense. I had known family therapy would be nothing but a fiasco. If I had known, my goddess would end up fainting during the session, I would’ve never bothered to make the appointment.
It seemed like Chasity’s relatives were discussing something over mind-link. In fact, I was pretty sure they were arguing over mind-link.
“Excuse us one moment,” said Chalice softly, glancing at Chasity before ushering her mate and her father out of the room.
Alex and I exchanged looks.
Felix
My baby was okay. I could almost breathe normally again.
“So my baby is okay but what about our babies?” I asked, gesturing to show that I meant Chasity and myself were the future parents.
Alex and Calix were so focused on Chasity, they didn’t even try to correct me.
“This here,” said the doctor, holding up a device shaped like a flashlight. “This is a doppler.”
“To listen to my babies’ heartbeats,” I said, remembering that word from Chasity’s recent checkup.
“Exactly,” said the doctor, smiling warmly.
She used the device to locate all three of my babies’ heartbeats one at a time. She pronounced them normal. My brothers and I let out a collective sigh of relief.
“My pups are okay,” I murmured happily to myself.
“Your pups?” Said Calix incredulously. “You mean my pups,” said Baby Boy Calix boldly.
Yeah, right.
“Don’t start this again,” grumbled Alex.
“Yeah, Calix, stop causing trouble,” I said, shaking my head in mock disappointment.
“Both of you, quit it,” snapped Alex.
He was antsy but I couldn’t blame him, not when our reason for being was lying in a hospital bed. I moved closer to the bed and took one of Chasity’s soft small hands in both of mine. I kissed her hand, savouring the sweet smell of her skin.
“When will she wake up?” I asked.
“It shouldn’t be long now,” replied the doctor.
Chasity’s relatives returned to the room. Where the hell had they gone? I hadn’t even noticed them exiting in the first place. Now, we were all gathered round my baby’s bed, anxiously awaiting any sign of movement other than the rise and fall of her chest. The doctor and nurse had vacated the room to give us some privacy, since Chasity was stable. No one said anything. We waited in complete silence, sans the beeping of the monitors. I could tell that Chasity’s relatives were pissed and they had every right to be. Her Dad in particular was clearly still seething.
Should we try to smooth things over with Chasity’s Dad before she wakes up? Wondered Calix over mind-link.
Alex and I voted against it.
I think we should let him cool off a little, responded Alex.
Yeah, the vibe is awkward as f**k but I prefer this tense silence to another shouting match, especially when my baby is fragile, I said, sighing inwardly as I gazed at Chasity.
My pretty little minx began to stir. Finally! My sleeping beauty opened her eyes. Relief washed over me.
Alex
Finally, my Luna woke up. My wolf and I had been worried sick. I helped her to sit up. Before I could even ask my Luna how she was feeling, Chase immediately began fuming again.
“I can’t believe my sister. Since when was Ronnie a complete monster like this?” Said Chase.
The question was obviously rhetorical. No one reacted except Calix, who growled in response to the insult directed at our mother. My youngest brother was so close to our mother that it was difficult for him to see the forest for the trees. Felix and I obviously loved our mother too, but it was obvious that she had behaved reprehensibly. I hid my annoyance at Chase calling her a ‘monster’ because her treatment of my Luna was indefensible. Chase snarled instinctively at Calix.
“Stop it!” Said Felix authoritatively. “You’re stressing my bride out and she’s with child.”
He took the words right out of my mouth. Chasity should be everyone’s main concern right about now. She was the one who had been abandoned by Chase and Chalice and mistreated by my own parents and even myself and my brothers. I squirmed a little as a pang of guilt lanced its way through me. Chasity had forgiven me, but I wasn’t sure if I could ever completely forgive myself.
“Our bride!” I added, realising Felix had said ‘my bride’.
“Children!” Added Calix.
I smiled. Regardless of how dark the past was, the future was certainly bright. Chasity was going to make an amazing Mom and I couldn’t wait to meet my pups. I had already begun working my way through a reading list of self-help books for new parents.
“Children?” Asked Chase, Chalice and Chance all in unison.
I hadn’t realised that they didn’t know. I looked at Chasity. Her cheeks were flushed. She was so pretty without even trying. I grasped her hand tightly, lacing my fingers with hers. She gave my hand a little squeeze.
“Mom, Dad, Grandpa Chance, with all the commotion, it totally slipped my mind to tell anyone about it yet. I am having triplets,” announced Chasity.
Her mother gasped, her eyes wide. “I don’t envy you, Honey, that’s one tough labour of love,” said Chalice, looking concerned for her daughter’s wellbeing.
I was nervous about my Luna having multiples too. Those tended to be high-risk pregnancies but I was prepared to spare no expense and to take every precaution. Chasity audibly gulped. It was my turn to give her hand a little comforting squeeze.
“But congratulations. I love you and I know you can do it. I can’t wait to love my three grandparents!” Said Chalice, quickly changing her tune.
“Congratulations, Sweetheart, that’s wonderful!” Said Chase in the most unconvincing tone.
He looked even more apprehensive about the Triplet Pregnancy than Chalice. Grandpa Chance seemed to be the only one of Chasity’s relatives not visibly worried.
“I’m here with you every step of the way, Chasity. I promise to be a great Grandpa to these triplets!” He joked.
Felix g*****d. Chalice closed her eyes and placed her palm against her forehead. Only Calix genuinely laughed. Chase laughed halfheartedly. I kept my expression neutral. I glanced at Chasity’s vital readings on the largest monitor. I really hoped we’d be able to take her home soon.
“Get it, great Grandpa like the grandfather of the babies’ mother and great like awesome!” Said Grandpa Chance, unnecessarily explaining his joke.
I sighed, looking at my beautiful Luna.
“You scared me half to death, Luna.” I said, trying to hold back the emotion in my voice.
I really couldn’t live without her. I didn’t want to. Chasity pulled me down onto her. I gently rest my head against her tummy, wrapping my arms firmly around her torso, willing myself not to cry. I wasn’t a believer in machismo like Felix, but I also wasn’t much of a sensitive type either, like Calix. However, the stress of the day had gotten to me. Nothing upset me more than the thought of losing my Luna.
“Little Luna, you’re my everything,” I mumbled into her abdomen.
Likewise, my Alpha, said Chasity over private mind-link.
I raised my head slightly to meet her doe eyes. There was so much love reflected in them and it warmed me to my core. If her relatives hadn’t been there, I’d have kissed her senseless.
